With WWE having a problem with recycling past wrestlers to main event matches. I feel WWE isn't putting faith in pushing mid card guys as top guys. Passing the torch like how the Ruthless Agression took over for Attitude Era and how they took over the reigns from the New Generation wrestlers.
So what mid card guys should be pushed to main event status in WWE?

These would be the top dozen or so talents I would build around right now,
AJ Styles Big E Damian Priest Drew McIntyre Keith Lee LA Knight Matt Riddle Montez Ford Pete Dunne Randy Orton Roman Reigns Seth Rollins
Those guys on the main roster(and should be one brand) and building up the likes of Gable,Steiner,Harland,Theory,Bate..ect down in NXT with hopefully them taking some of those main event and upper card spots sooner rather then later.
Strongly feel that their should only be a handful or less guys in their 40s right now on the main roster.Still talented but when some much of your main roster is in their 40s and past their primes really puts a ceiling on things.
AJ needs put back in the title picture, and same with Seth Rollins. I know they’re already technically main event stars, but they need pushed back up to challenging for titles.
I think WWE hasn’t done bad the past couple years. We’ve had Drew, Lashley and Big E now, plus the resurgence of Roman Reigns. We even had Strowman added at one point. They seem to be putting faith in newer guys a bit more.

The problem isn’t that they dont push guys to the main event scene, its that they can’t keep them at that level.
How many times did you see Rock, Austin, Taker, Triple H, etc… from 98-02 drop out of the WWE title picture to go down to fighting the likes of Gangrel or Mideon on PPV a few months later. You knew they were main event level because even if Rock was feuding with someone like Billy Gunn, he was still getting his title shots on Raw and SD to let you know the WWE Title was still his end goal.
Someone said it in another post, the stories just aren’t intertwined anymore, if you’re not in the main title picture your story is dumb, thought of last minute, and usually forgettable. Guys like Owens, Zayn, Ziggler (since 2012), Sheamus, McIntyre, Styles, etc.. should be your perennial stars but instead you forget someone like AJ Styles was World Champ for almost a year because now he needs to be booked as the weak link in a 2nd or 3rd ranked tag team because Omos needs to look strong.
It’s the failure of creative/booking to keep talent at the same level instead of letting them fizzle until no one cares about them anymore.
I think fans are too smart right now to embrace anyone that was created through developmental. When I see the direction they’re going in developing talent, it looks god awful. Everyone is back to having a lame gimmick. That chicago Italian dude, Bron Breaker looks ultra green. They apparently love that Von Wagner guy even though he looks ultra vanilla and generic.
I have zero faith in this company to produce big stars. Just look at the past decade, other than Roman, who have they done even a half decent job with. There’s guys that climb to main event status but then they get shoved back down to mid-card. I think to myself how can it get much worse, but then I looked at NXT I’m like ohhhh boy, this is the future?
Thank God for AEW.

LA Knight has everything a Main Eventer needs. Still his NWA Powerrr promo in on of the first episodes (We‘ve got men!) is one of the best of the last years in my eyes. Simple but effective. Although I prefer the nam Eli Drake, LA Knight has definitely the charisma, the look and the athleticism to become a big name in WWE. But at his age, it’ll be better soon as he is close to 40 too.
WALTER has the look and athleticism, but lacks charisma and isn’t willing to move to USA as he prefers his life in Austria, so he is no option - at least for now.
Ciampa looks line he has found his niche in NXT. Due to his neck injury and his daughter he appears to want to keep the schedule low(er).
Gargano is highly underrated but not the size of guy they apparently look for.
Bourdeaux, Bloom and Rechsteiner (let’s just hope these get better names than Breakker, Wagner and whatever), seem to have what it takes.
One more name for the list: Marcel Barthel. This guy is tall, definitely has the athleticism. He is also currently working on his rather small physique. His charisma is also underrated at the moment. He works great as a face but is fantastic as a heel. Regal, HBK and Triple H habe also a very high meaning of him and Aichner. But Barthel is best on his own. I hope we will see him unleashed one day... WALTER vs Barthel for the NXT UK title was a missed opportunity.

They seem to have a lot of time for Damien Priest at the mo, so there's him.
I'll tell you who else they should have done a bit more with, and who could still be turned into summat: Elias! He's got the look, the charisma, the mic skill and he's good enough in the ring. Start building him now and he could be something in say 2023.
I'd have said Bobby Roode when he first signed, but they've made it clear from the moment he started on SD and Raw that he's not what Vince wants in a big star.
I think the way Joe was treated was pretty shocking all things considered. I'd have fancied him a multiple time world champion in WWE before he ended his time there, much like AJ.
Is it safe to say any hopes anyone had for Cesaro are well and truly done with now? I'm so sad we never saw him at the top.
As others have said, LA Knight springs to mind, but his age is against him. They're obviously pushing Steiner's son (but he needs to change his name) as we saw last week.
