The night he won the title he had MSG in the palm of his hand as the supposed heel. Yeah, Sid was over.

He destroyed an old man with a TV camera and the fans went nuts! No sympy from that New York audience, they wanted Sid to be the man that night!

I always liked Sid and enjoyed his work. I felt the Sycho gimmick worked so well for him and the miscues he had from time to time on the mic just added to the gimmick. He also had the perfect promo combination of starting out quiet then going loud, back to soft and then loud.

I was never the biggest Sid fan, but I can't deny that he was valuable to the WWF at this time. When Diesel won the WWF title, the company wasn't loaded with monster heels like Hogan had in the 80s. Sid was someone who could visually match up to champs like Diesel and Razor Ramon, and the WWF used this. When guys like Shawn and Bret were holding the belts, it was easy to buy that they were in peril because Sid was like a crazed, evil version of Hogan. His work might have been basic, but it was effective at the time.

I always liked Sid weird to think Vince was gonna try to make him the enxt hogan when sid doesnt have a baby face look Yeah. Even weirder that Sid turned it down. He was really over as Sid Justice in 1991/92, surprised he didn't take that offer and run with it. Even if it didn't work out, the money he would have made would have made up for it. And, after being pushed to the moon (even if it didn't work out great), turning heel would have been huge.

I've always wondered if Sid maybe because he didn't grow up loving the business, he was an athlete trying to get to the NFL before wrestling, but maybe he didn't have the passion to be THE MAN and the face of a company. Maybe it was like a Luger/Goldberg situation where they were there because the first career didn't pan out but they wanted to make money in an athletic environment. Maybe he also saw what was required of Hogan as the face of the company and he decided it wasn't for him. I don't blame him at all.

I always liked Sid weird to think Vince was gonna try to make him the enxt hogan when sid doesnt have a baby face look That's definitely what Vince wanted, but I'm not sure how it would have worked. Sid had a similar stature as Hogan, but he never projected the all-American hero energy that Hulk had. It would have been interesting to have seen how the Sid Justice persona would have unfolded without the heel turn.

I agree with you, especially at that time, Sid was over. I always enjoyed how he was a heel to the baby faces, but if you cheered him he’d fist bump you haha, he made himself cool to like. I can’t recall a time where he ever ripped into the fans on the mic. I think Sid is up there with the first babyface heels but I think, unless I’m forgetting somebody, Razor Ramon had to be one of the first. I also associate Razor with one of the first recognizable t shirts (the yellow one with his face really big and off to the side). And for me, I was a big Hogan fan, but at the ‘92 Rumble, when Hogan unjustly dumped Sid (pun intended), I think that was the beginning of Sid being a cool heel to cheer for me, and judging by he crowd reaction, maybe a few others too 😅 I always liked Sid weird to think Vince was gonna try to make him the enxt hogan when sid doesnt have a baby face look I always felt like Sid was a replacement for Warrior rather than Hogan, or maybe a combination of the 2. I say that because, for that time, Warrior was pretty edgy for a babyface (for the time). He challenged another HUGE babyface for the title, he wasn’t friends with the other babyface, he was kind of his own entity. I think that’s the direction Vince felt the ship needed to head and Sid could provide a similar edginess rather than the white meat babyface like Hogan…(although in retrospect, even Hogan was edgy for the time being that he’d cheat and stuff against the heels). Anyway, I think Vince felt Sid might be the next step in both those characters progression…an insane babyface

I never understood why Sid suddenly got over in the mid 90s. Quiet bodyguards seems to be a gimmick that gets people over I guess. Was never a fan of his in any incarnation, particularly as he has half the brain that I do.
