CM Punk's booking has been horrible

Regardless of how anyone may feel about it, Punk has a lot of influence on his booking. Ie, this is the way he wants to tell his story. People can still not like it of course.

He said if he came back he would be a full time he’s just gonna move through the roster to I reckon a feud with mjf some time early next year

I’ve liked it so far, but I’m waiting for him to have actual direction outside “I’m just happy to be here.” Thought the match with Hobbs would lead to a whole feud with Team Taz. I imagine based on the rumored Full Gear match that something more substantial is just around the corner.

Ive enjoyed his time so far. I think right now having him work with younger guys is the best thing for AEW. If we were going on name value alone, he’d be going after the AEW title which I would absolutely rather see Hangman/Omega right now so im ok with what he’s doing. I do think at some point sooner rather than later he’s going to get the likes of MJF, Cole, Young Bucks which would hopefully be considered higher level matches.

He has to make up for lost time. He is not a part timer. He has come in during the middle of a year. Wrestlers can't skip the line & instantly get world title shots. They need to build up wins which is what he is doing. Not wrestling every week so it's still special.

Some weeks on commentary is fine to keep a precense on the show. It's only 1 day a week why stay at home like Brock when he wants to be there. It's only the beginning & it's been booked fine so far. We'll get to the big matches, title runs but you can't keep cut the line in AEW.

I think AEW and Punk are handling his booking perfectly. He's in a veteran role and racking up wins because there's a thread of importance surrounding that troupe. And he's doing it in a way that's not burying any of the young talent, it's actually giving them some much needed spotlight time - their futures are still ahead of them and bright with a rub like this.

I fully expect him to get into a meaty feud next year, hopefully against MJF to keep with the whole veteran vs. young blood thread he's weaving into his fabric of storytelling.

I'm just glad they didn't immediately put a title on him. I would live to see a hour long 4 way match between Punk, Omega, Danielson & MJF.

I like it in theory. But not in practice. Its especially harder to swallow watching Punk struggle against low-mid carders, when guys like Edge/Christian have returned from much longer hiatuses and they are in the best shape of their lives and wrestling at a level maybe even better than they were before they left.

The buildup to Darby/Punk was good. And Punk made Darby for sure, just on the mic. but that was the problem. They didn't even need to have the match. The job was done before they even got in the ring. And since that match both are in a worse position than they were beforehand. AEW hasn't capitalized on any juice they had from that match.

And since then Punk has done nothing to raise his opponents. None of them are in a better spot for having gotten the rub from Punk. Eddie might get something. Since he's also coming off the Daniel Bryan rub. And he's a veteran who's a little smarter to the business. But so far the Punk thing is a huge win for ppl that just wanted some throwaway matches against ppl you never thought you would see him face. And a big L for Punks return being a big deal.

in WWE Punk would be feuding with Roman Reigns. Or Seth Rollins.

he wouldn't be having weekly matches vs. Lince Dorado and Riddick Moss. He would be back to being a megastar.

Of course i realize this is what Punk most likely wants or is happy with at the moment. It just sucks when you know in the other company he could be facing Brock Lesnar in main events right now if he wanted.

CM Punk has been out of the game for 7 years and is 43 years old. He doesn't exactly have the time to waste to wrestle 3 times a year, nor does he WANT to be a "Brock Lesnar" type attraction.

CM Punk wants to wrestle. He wants to have great matches, and he wants to give back to the business and help out younger talent.

And AEW has stayed away from that "attraction" type strategy that WWE uses, and I think it has served AEW well. AEW has a much more well rounded roster where almost EVERYONE can can be taken seriously or jump into a major feud at any time without having to have a significant amount of build up and story telling.

WWE, on the other hand, has like 3 guys on their roster that they book around, and then an entire roster full of wrestlers who never get any attention. That's why WWE constantly has to keep going back to guys like Cena, Lesnar, and GOLDBERG of all people in 2021 almost 2022. Because WWE has no potential "dream matches" on their roster. They've done the same matches between the same people over and over and over and over to death.

Lesnar vs Lashley is basically the only BIG match they could do, but they seem to be doing everything they can to avoid it,....and probably the inevitable Rock coming back to put over Reigns.

AEW has like dozens of dream matches and first time matchups that we've never seen. I think their strategy is much more entertaining than WWE's where the entire company revolves around 3-4 guys constantly. AEW is also still new. They don't have 60 years of brand recognition built up, so they also are more inclined to either want to or HAVE to give a little bit more away on free tv in order to draw in new fans.

People who haven't seen AEW yet and who maybe don't know who Omega, Darby, the Bucks, Sammy.....if they see a commercial that Punk, Danielson, Sting, etc are wrestling on Dynamite/Rampage....they've got a higher probability that those first time/causal fans will tune in for free. You can't really be like "hey, you don't know what AEW is, but please buy our PPV bc Punk"....you gotta showcase first.
