He’s the definitive referee in my mind, and he’s a really nice guy. He’d come out at TNA house shows with the Bret Shades on and a “damn right I did” shirt. Lol, it always got a pop and you can tell Earl was having fun with it.
I can see how people thought this was in poor taste but Earl is such a nice guy, it was just in fun.

He was great playing off the heels, used prominently and was good in that senior ref role who could interact with the wrestlers. But his pin counting was utter s**t. No one will convince me otherwise.
He always telegraphed the near fall before the guy would get the shoulder up. Noticeable in EVERY DAMN MATCH. And then you knew what the match finish was because he'd count way slower than the other counts in the match.

He is THEE referee to me. I think he's a fantastic referee and in the Attitude Era/RA era he was the man.
I will say though, his exploiting of that damn Screwjob match is boring. It's not needed and we're all past it now.
His ability to take a bump was great though, he was so good in his role.
