The difference is If they knew they could get away with it WWE would drop the wrestling. And become a five hour SNL copycat. Didn't the world champion of the other show come out dressed as a Ghostbuster? Yes, he did

Then how is that "serious" wrestling if WWE isn't? have you seen the disparity in how much time is actually spent on wrestling in an episode of wwe vs aew? that’s where the problem lies. aew is a promotion where wrestling is at the forefront. wrestling comes secondary in wwe to whatever they’re wanting to portray at any given moment. i find it funny how wwe has no issue claiming it coined and is sports entertainment wrestling, non fans have no issue claiming it as the same, but wwe die hards have a hard time differentiating the two

Then how is that "serious" wrestling if WWE isn't? AEW wants to pretend that they aren't sport entertainment and that they are professional wrestling, give me a ing break. Don't get me started with the rankings, with the win/lost records, all the ing matches are predetermined. They have a guy who puts his hands in his pockets, The Elite does some lame crap especially last week with the Ghostbuster cosplay which had the WORLD CHAMPION of the company in the match.

Very disappointed that we have a thread about ROH and instead of using it as the appropriate (and frankly, much needed) platform to discuss the manliness of one Silas Young instead we're arguing about what is or isn't sports entertainment. I dunno, maybe I just have a different set of priorities.

This is going to get locked But while on the discussion, there is no difference. It’s all wrestling and wrestling is stupid. We are all just a bunch dummies with our stupid little fandom arguing over things that don’t matter anyways. Like what you like and lay off bashing others that like something else. On topic: I would like to see Gresham get a shot somewhere. Zayne too, of course. He’s a rad person. It probably will.

I don't even watch WWE, so I'm not some die hard fan. What's annoying is saying that AEW is a wrestling company but WWE isn't. They both do dumb crap that isn't wrestling. KFC sells chicken as their main product and McDonald's sells burgers. Does that mean they both aren't fast food restaurants?

If you honestly don't know, then we can't help you. That’s the comment of someone who doesn’t know either. I’ll give you a one word hint - nothing. I actually do know. How can you not? If you think AEW and WWE show the same content ... well then I don't know what to tell you.

Then how is that "serious" wrestling if WWE isn't? The difference is Kenny and crew did it as a fun joke for a Halloween episode. WWE would actually HAVE a ghost buster character.

And to keep this thread on topic ...
WWE should sign: Dalton Castle and Kenny King
AEW should sign: Bandido, Danhausen, EC3, Flip Gordon, Jonatahn Gresham, and Rush

Does that mean they both aren't fast food restaurants? once again, wrestling by definition is sports entertainment, I’m not debating that. however, wwe coined that term specifically to encompass their approach to professional wrestling, which often takes the focus off the wrestling for the sake of entertainment, while AEW keeps a more integral focus on their in ring. one could say roh is a more strictly wrestling company while impact wrestling has a lot more sports entertainment elements. either way, it all falls under the veil of wrestling. so no need for the pitchforks, folks.

In my head I picture this scenario.
A guy walks into a party, wearing a WWE shirt. He doesn’t know anyone outside the host, but sees someone else wearing an AEW shirt standing by themselves in the corner of the room. Happy to have a reason to start conversation he approaches the person and says “Hey, a fellow wrestling fan. How’s it going man?” The other person looks him up and down and retorts “Actually, I’m a wrestling fan and it looks like you’re a sports entertainment fan. There’s a difference.” in between wheezes. The guy simply says “Ok.” before walking away to talk to someone else. The other person stays in the corner alone the rest of the party. Dude just wanted to talk wrestling.

WWE and AEW are the same. You may prefer one over the other but in the end they’re both no different apart from how they label themselves.

Bandido, Rush, Gresham, Brody King, Dragon Lee, Flamita, and Chris Dickinson are ones to watch.

Quinn McKay would be a good fit for WWE.
Now if you will excuse me, I have to go watch some AEW pro wrestling. I hope we get another Jericho and MJF song and dance number.

One cares more about the actual wrestling you see on your television (AEW). One cares more about the story being told on your television, and not the story told in the ring (WWE). One cares more about the moves, the performances in the ring, the action, etc. (AEW). One cares more about the story outside the ring and the characters they've created (WWE). One is named WRESTLING. One is named ENTERTAINMENT. One is doing traditional pro wrestling, as seen by legends like the AWA, NWA, WCCW, Crockett, etc. (AEW).
One is a step away from being VH-1 and MTV with all of their side shows and pop culture tie ins (WWE).
One has its wrestlers come first and very little emphasis on who those characters are (AEW). The other has had cartoon characters since the 80s (WWE). The list is SO pathetic and long ... we'd be here all night.
Don't believe me? Remember when Karrion Kross lost those debut matches? Someone from the WWE went on record in an interview saying why: "I don't understand why people are freaking out on the Internet. It [his losses] are leading to something. Why don't people understand? We're telling a story, THE MATCH DOESN'T MATTER, the story matters."
Did you read that? The MATCH doesn't matter! Case closed, man.
Yes ... both shows are "entertaining". Both shows have "wrestling" on them. But only one is a pro wrestling show. The other is a sitcom/drama/sci-fi spectacle with wrestling mixed in.
I look forward to your argument.

WWE have wrestlers that engage in storylines that result in wrestling matches. AEW also have wrestlers that engage in storylines that result in wrestling matches. What each company call themselves is irrelevant. What company you prefer is irrelevant. What they prioritize, stories or wrestling, is irrelevant. When it’s simplified right down, WWE is pro wrestling labeled as sports entertainment and AEW is pro wrestling labeled as pro wrestling.
