Anyone that compares traditional pro wrestling such as AWA, World Class, NWA/JCP with the thigh slapping botching spot fests we get today has no credibility. At best there's 4-5 wrestlers in each company that could make it in those days. Both are pro wrestling, both are sports entertainment. Its one in the same. If they were different at all you wouldnt have guys jumping from company to company. They literally had a show tonight that starred Jericho, Christian, Danielson, Punk, FTR, Arn & Tully, Sting, Andrade, Cody, Del Sol and Miro...Literally all became names as SPORTS ENTERTAINERS
And WWE using the term Sports Entertainment had nothing to do with their in ring product and everything to do with them avoiding state regulations on combat sports.

Taven and Castle are the only two I could think of that might fit the bill of what WWE currently looks for in a wrestler, but they're both too old. I expect literally zero signings. Maybe, maybe, maybe Josh Woods.

I was curious to see some names mentioned from ROH cause I havent watched in forever but here I am watching AEW loyalist trying to defend dressing like dinosaurs, street fighter characters and ghostbusters and saying "Its not Sports Entertainment" 😂 ‘From the little I know of current ROH. Bandido, Rush, Gresham, Brody King, Dragon Lee, Flamita, and Chris Dickinson are ones to watch. Great list but how dare you not add the great Danhausen lol. Get on that Triple H or Tony Elite Danhausen gotta be on tv. I just want to see RUSH,Dragon Lee,Rok C,Quinn,Bandido and Danhausen get a shot somewhere. Doesn't matter to me where at WWE,NXT or AEW I just want to see them on my tv every week.

You don’t know and this is the second time you’ve hidden behind the ‘I know, how do you not?’ excuse. WWE and AEW are the same. You may prefer one over the other but in the end they’re both no different apart from how they label themselves. Sigh ... I'll humor you. One cares more about the actual wrestling you see on your television (AEW). One cares more about the story being told on your television, and not the story told in the ring (WWE). One cares more about the moves, the performances in the ring, the action, etc. (AEW). One cares more about the story outside the ring and the characters they've created (WWE). One is named WRESTLING. One is named ENTERTAINMENT. One is doing traditional pro wrestling, as seen by legends like the AWA, NWA, WCCW, Crockett, etc. (AEW).
One is a step away from being VH-1 and MTV with all of their side shows and pop culture tie ins (WWE).
One has its wrestlers come first and very little emphasis on who those characters are (AEW). The other has had cartoon characters since the 80s (WWE). The list is SO pathetic and long ... we'd be here all night.
Don't believe me? Remember when Karrion Kross lost those debut matches? Someone from the WWE went on record in an interview saying why: "I don't understand why people are freaking out on the Internet. It [his losses] are leading to something. Why don't people understand? We're telling a story, THE MATCH DOESN'T MATTER, the story matters." Did you read that? The MATCH doesn't matter! Case closed, man.
Yes ... both shows are "entertaining". Both shows have "wrestling" on them. But only one is a pro wrestling show. The other is a sitcom/drama/sci-fi spectacle with wrestling mixed in. I look forward to your argument.
It's so hilarious that you think AEW and WWE aren't the same. WWE is one step away from being MTV with all the "pop culture tie ins"? Are we watching the same AEW? You know, the one that had Mike Tyson, Snoop Dogg, Rosario Dawson, Shaq, the main heels dressing as characters from movies and video games, the company that licenses actual music for some of their wrestlers. Here's something to think about for you. If Bad Bunny or Logan Paul wanted to go to AEW and shill some stuff, Tony Kahn would let them on the show in a heartbeat and you're an idiot if you think he wouldn't.

How the hell did a topic over "ROH on Hiatus" turn into a "WWE vs. AEW" thread?? Why can't everyone just be a fan of both companies?? I know I am.
I like watching Reigns, Drew, Seth, AJ, RKBro, Roode, Ziggler, Miz, etc. on WWE.
I like watching Ciampa, Breakker, Strong, O' Reilly, etc. on NXT.
I like watching Omega, Bucks, Cole, Jungle Boy, Christian, Inner Circle, etc. on AEW.
I like watching Young, Castle, Gordon, PCO, Lethal, etc. on ROH.
I like watching EY, Rhyno, Heath, Moose, Edwards, Myers, Cardona, etc. on IMPACT.
I like watching Aldis, Murdoch, Adonis, Storm, Stevens, etc. on NWA Powerrr.
It's crazy, right?? I like all wrestling, because.... I like wrestling. But here we are, on a thread about a promotion shutting down arguing over if AEW is wrestling and if WWE is sports entertainment, when all wrestling is sports entertainment no matter what organization you watch!

Ha ha ha ha! Sorry! I totally forgot. Well, if that's the case, and we are using government given names now....
I hope Windham Rotunda debuts on AEW to wrestle with Chris Irvine, Austin Jenkins, and Tyson Smith soon!

WWE have wrestlers that engage in storylines that result in wrestling matches. AEW also have wrestlers that engage in storylines that result in wrestling matches. What each company call themselves is irrelevant. What company you prefer is irrelevant. What they prioritize, stories or wrestling, is irrelevant. When it’s simplified right down, WWE is pro wrestling labeled as sports entertainment and AEW is pro wrestling labeled as pro wrestling. Guess we'll just agree to disagree then.

Thus why they can't just move on from my opinion.

K. 1. World WRESTLING Entertainment. All Elite WRESTLING 2. I didn't know that a wrestling dinosaur, a caveman, a geriatric guy in face paint, a skater kid, a slacker who wrestles with hands in his pockets, and a cult that hangs out with a child were "traditional" pro wrestling. I must have missed that memo. Call me when you can find a clip of Bruno Sammartino coming out dressed as a movie character while being the World Champion. I never said that WWE places the same emphasis on wrestling as AEW. They're both still wrestling. Like I said before, KFC and McDonald's sell different products, that doesn't mean they aren't both fast food. I'd like to see you defend the pop culture argument.

Brody King is the size that Vince likes - but he'll more than likely end up in AEW... Besides which, he would break the figure budget - and be missing his 'Toxic Avenger' tattoo.

You still have some more of my original points to debunk.
But, if we want to get into semantics, I was referring to how they end their name.
NWA/WCCW/AWA had their small number of gimmicks, as did WCW and ECW and does AEW. But they all pale in comparison to WWE. Stop trying to find grains of hope in your arguments.
And ok, yes ... AEW did foolishly have what's her face jump on a guy's back, and had Tyson appear once, and whatever else they barel did. But WWE markets it, banks on it, profits off it, promotes it, sells it, and shoves it down your throat.
All I'm saying is that one is wrestling first ... and one is entertainment first. You can't deny that.

The difference is If they knew they could get away with it WWE would drop the wrestling. And become a five hour SNL copycat. If cam89 knew he could get away with it, he’d never have to keep reregistering as bangarang, fishhook36, and dozens of other aliases.

"This company that's drawing less viewers than WCW in its dying days is much better than that company that's drawing less viewers than WCW in its dying days!" Shut the up, please. Anyway, WWE should sign Quinn McKay, AEW should sign Danhausen, Hyan and Max the Impaler and everyone else can be spread around between NWA, MLW, Impact, GCW, Japan, Mexico, etc...and dumb Flip Gordon can go flip burgers.
