Names matter, but it doesn't mean that talent get over in spite of a name. Wrestling history is filled with dumb names who have gotten over in spite of their monikers. Thinking about it, are names like Doudrop and T-Bar really any different to Hawk, Animal or Tugboat. Not really. I think we come to accept things as they become normalized in our mind. Mononyms, in general, are pretty silly, yet over time we come to accept Diesel and Edge over time because however silly it might be to think "really, your name is Diesel?", whatever it is about them that endears them to us thrives in spite of it. Think about how quickly "The Big Show" Paul Wight became just "Big Show". He may as well have been called "Big Person", but in spite of it, he's secured his place in wrestling history, and for however many names he's gone through, I'll bet more people than don't still generalize him as "Big Show".

Two of the top wrestlers in the history of the industry where named "The Rock" and "Stone Cold." Names don't mean sh*t if you're good at what you do.

I was looking at nxt 2.0 these peoples names suck. Lash Legend, Bron Breaker wow i would take job names over these like the dumpster, or skinner, or the goon. Atleast they were memorable. So...Vince McMahon?

I don’t see the problem with those monikers though if you had them be called The Asparagus and Billy Bob Babagoo it might not go over as well ya know? imagine if hbk had called himself Shawn Hickenbottom. doesn’t really have that rock star ring

If Austin took the name Fang McFrost he'd still be as big of a star and we'd have been talking about how silly it would have been had he been called Stone Cold.

Nobody wants to cheer, "Doudrop." Nobody wants to buy and wear a shirt that says, "Doudrop." It sounds like an insult a 5 year old would call someone at school.
There was nothing wrong with Piper Niven, but Vince McMahon is Vince McMahon so he had to change it for the worse. For every "Stone Cold Steve Austin" there are 10 "Ringmasters."

I respect your take but don’t share it. he would’ve been carved up in promos from here to high heaven. like in that video, Austin rejects those names as they’re all crap. if a name wasn’t integral, why spend so much time trying to lock the right one down? if undertaker was just called uncle mark, nah I don’t think it necessarily would’ve clicked as well.

Yeah fair enough mate. I don't think Undertaker or even Bearer as a mothpiece could have gotten Uncle Mark over as credible name 😅

Some new names for you:
"WWE filed trademarks on the following on 11/15:
-Mila Malani. -Wendy Choo. -Olymple Margaux. -Chip Danning. -Joey Tofino. -Die Familie.
Malanki is the ring name for new WWE signing Kellie Morga.
Choo is the new ring name for the former Mei Ying.
Margaux is the new ring name for referee Artemis. As we reported last night, a number of other referees have been given new ring names as well."

WWE doesn’t care about foreign languages. Dragunovs catchphrase is „Un - be - sieg - bar!“. The commentary once told the Universe that it Russian and means „undefeatable“. It’s actually German. Pretty sure they will just give Tony D‘Angelo a stable and „La Familia“ wasn’t available anymore. 🤣 BTW: We all agree that Breaker should be called Rex Steiner. But what about Von Wagner? I really believe they should refer to his roots. „Bloom Beverly“ wouldn’t be the worst name. Give him the good old Beverly Brothers tights and see where it’s going.
