Mattel is a publicly traded company that primarily sells childrens toys and works with many big licenses. If you can’t understand why they cancelled the figure after the backlash, then I don’t know what to tell you. Yes other wrestlers have problematic pasts, but no way is Mattel going to allow an attire with a flag that is considered racist by a large population to be on a figure. Tough luck. Why was there no outage when he actually wore the attire? Or when jordan brand released the rising sun 12s with the same exact flag logo on the insole? It is what it is. The hypocrisy is hilarious though. "Cancel culture" is funny.

If the joke here is we need to cancel all problematic figures then I saw we only make Sami Zayn and Bayley figures please. Saudi would disagree with Zayn

I'd wager that public awareness of how the rising sun flag is perceived in certain parts of the world only garnered more widespread attention in the last year on account of the Olympics in Japan. It's okay to learn and to grow. This is a good read for anyone genuinely interested in learning where some of this is coming from.

Like I said earlier, I wasn't really aware of how this particular flag was perceived around the world when the figure was first announced. However, reading about it and learning the history changed my opinion. But you know, some people who rather yell about nonexistent "cancel culture" than actually bother to read.

You'd think westerners would be more inclined to understand why certain battle flags could invoke feelings of discomfort, but we're still trying to come to terms with that one, so I guess the course of these threads kinda lends itself to reason.
