This is what I was thinking as far as booking Roman and the Universal Title through 2024.
Okay, so you get a screwy finish at Day 1 without a winner, so you get Brock/Roman once more at Mania 38. Brock goes in 0-1-1, no wins, one loss, one tie.
Brock goes over, to change things up. He holds it until SVS ‘22, when he loses it back to Roman.
Roman holds it another year and a half, retaining over The Rock at Mania 39.
Who does Roman finally drop it to at WM40?
Bron Breakker. It makes for a great angle. Bloodline vs. Steiners, Bloodline says the Samoans have been way more dominant than the Steiners ever were, saying the Steiners could never win a WWE world title, only tag or WCW. Do a segment where Roman destroys Rick and Scott, leaves them bloody.
Then Bron gets his big moment over Roman at WM40, which would be believable. Maybe have Bron win the ‘24 Rumble.
So the history books have Roman with two year-and-a-half Universal Title runs, which is pretty impressive. Brock ended one, Bron ended the other, both fairly believable. Rock gets his last match in there as well.
Whaddya think? What are your ideas for Roman over the next couple of years? I know folks are thinking he’ll have a program/programs with Drew or someone like that over the Universal Title in coming months/years, and I get it, but I’d like to see something a bit different.

Oh my God.... Rick Steiner is an old, retired pro wrestler who doesn't look like a pro wrestler in any way, shape or form now.
Scott Steiner is blackballed from the WWE pretty much. And even if he wasn't, the man looks like an old man too, and should retire from pro wrestling before he dies in the ring.
Everyone knows that Roman Reigns is gonna lose the Universal Title to Drew.... Gulak that is!

Oh my God.... Rick Steiner is an old, retired pro wrestler who doesn't look like a pro wrestler in any way, shape or form now. Scott Steiner is blackballed from the WWE pretty much. And even if he wasn't, the man looks like an old man too, and should retire from pro wrestling before he dies in the ring. Everyone knows that Roman Reigns is gonna lose the Universal Title to Drew.... Gulak that is! I hear ya. But they love the attack segments, and I think it works to get sympathy because they are older guys. |

Bron Breakker should be nowhere near the guy beating Reigns if he somehow ends up having a 4 year run. Someone heel should take it off him, because whoever does beat Reigns is going to get booed out of the building. Fans at this point want to see Roman go further as champion, eventually thats going to turn him back into a face tweener regardless of how he acts. (I.e. Austin in 97, Rock in 99, Brock in ‘02, etc…)
The problem with a title run as long as Romans at the moment is if you plan on having him keep the title that long you need to have longer feuds with people. You can’t feud with Cesaro one month, and then Edge the next month, Cena the next, Brock the next, Finn the next, etc.. etc… You need to have longer feuds because there’s more programming than there was when Hogan was champ in the mid 80’s. But you also need to have something for the next challenger to do before he gets to the title feud. Problem is WWE is not great at either currently. They don’t book continuous storylines and they dont usuallly have much going on in the mid card.
My personal feeling (whether its popular or not) is that the main event of Wrestlemania 38 is going to be Roman vs. Drew vs. Brock. The writing is just on the wall at the moment. Drew’s getting screwed out of his title matches by “management”, Brock was just suspended and will likely get screwed at the upcoming PPV. They’re def building to something with Sonya/Pearce. I’d imagine one is protecting Reigns behind the scenes and the other is trying their best to make things “fair”. I’d imagine that its Pearce who was “bought” or something along those lines by Reigns/Heyman and thats why he didn’t put Drew in the battle royal and won’t go anywhere near Brock/suspended Brock/looked shocked when likely it was Sonya who unsuspended Brock. Also explains why Sonya is going after Naomi, Naomi/Uso relationship she likely doesnt trust Naomi. So right now everyone thinks Sonya is the heel but I wouldnt be surprised if its Pearce.

Yeah, I'd rather he didn't hold the belt hostage until '24. His act is already getting stale, and he's not good enough to believably hold it for that long - despite what they'd have you believe , and McAfee proclaiming him as the GOAT, every week. I'm still not buying into the hype... Besides which, Bron will be ready to take it before '24.

I would prefer both belts to be unified by 2024. Imagine Roman the Undisputed Champion, on top of the ladder and the most supreme force in all of WWE.

I don't care for the Universal title anyway. I liked the WCW world title better. That is the big gold belt for people out there new to pro wrestling.

Fans dont want what WWE wants, they want what WWE doesnt want. They didnt want to push Daniel Bryan, so Bryan became the hottest face in the company in 2013 to the fans. They didnt want Reigns as a face shoved down their throats, which is funny because Reigns is being shoved down our throats in a way worse than its ever been before but where’s all the complaining? |

I’m just saying even in ‘97 it was becoming cool to like the bad guy, with the way everyone is finicky today about things Reigns as a bad guy wont last simply because fans will eventually stop giving him a negative reaction. |

I’ve arm chair booked the hell out of the continued Roman run and my endgame always winds up with…
Roman beating Rock at Mania
Roman heelishly enters the MITB match(while defending later in the night) and wins with almost no effort - nuclear heat
Roman defends the Universal title against Riddle(my choice). Riddle wins clean. Easy way to shift Roman away with the case as you can’t have Roman continue to lose and you can’t have Riddle look weak. Roman can shrug it off and say he owns the universal title and he wants the WWE title back

Roman champ through to Summerslam 2023 at the least. He can drop it a time or two in between them. But he should be pinned clean a max of once until he loses the belt after he's retired Rock in Hollywood. Which the next big show following that event is either Money in the Bank or Summerslam

Assuming the plan is Roman vs Rock at WrestleMania 38, and that the roster is largely the same as it is now, I’d have him keep the title until around SummerSlam or Survivor Series time next year. And have Rock involved somehow in the title loss (or in a rematch where Reigns fails to win it back), so that there’s a bit of a blame game. I think the championship makes the outcome of the match more obvious, so I’d want to separate that.
As for who would beat Roman? In the current landscape, I can only see it being one of: Lesnar, McIntyre, Big E, Rollins, Orton, Lashley or Riddle.
