So I’m sitting here enjoying my new figure of Edge I acquired during RSC’s Black Friday sale and it made me ponder an old question I love to use as a metric for excellence.
Wrestling ideally is meant to possess the same intrinsic properties in what makes for great matches and interviews throughout time because you’re supposed to keep things as believable and respectable as you can so people can suspend disbelief.
For example: Walter Hahn of NXT and WXW fame is so good as a wrestler and looks so menacing he could be a a main eventer in any decade dating back to before the formal invention of the wrestling ring.
So I like to ponder what would happen if you took a wrestler and let them grow up and compete in a different decade.
For my first example, I’m going to pretend I can choose what age the wrestler is when I send them. First, I’d send Edge circa 1998 to 1989 and hopefully he’d end up in WWF and get to wrestle Hulk Hogan because I feel like that would mean a lot to him.
If this hypothetical made any sense to you and you want to share one, I’d like that as I’m lonely and modern wrestling isn’t doing it for me the way I wish it was.

Val Venis and Bobby Roode wrestling in the WWF in the 80s.
I always felt that Val and Bobby's styles were more suited for that era of WWF than any other era.

Quite a difficult one to answer as putting someone back, takes the place of someone else but to play along I’ll go with these:
Dan Severn back in to Backlund’s era and early Hogan era - would loved to have seen him as a main event guy against these two and probably best fit for his style and personality.
LOD 1989 post WMV - nice feud with Demolition, when Demo were at their peak.
Benoit, Guerrero and Malenko circa 94 - smaller talented guys that could have whipped up a storm with Bret, Owen, Michaels etc. and helped the WWF move away from some of the god awful gimmicks they were coming up with.
Big Show 90 -91 - with Andre’s health deteriorating, Big Show could have taken the role of resident giant, first as a face then the inevitable heel turn to face Warrior then Hogan.

If we're talking about for promo's and match quality, I'd love 2006 Kurt Angle, 2008 Chris Jericho and 2016 AJ Styles in or around the 1995-7 era strictly to work with Shawn/Bret/Owen and be in the mix when Austin was coming up.
Also, give me 2003 just unmasked Kane back in the 90's Hogan era to work with Hulk. Could you imagine that, the same presentation of Kane but he's after Hulk. Yes please.
I'd also throw in 2000/2001 Jericho to work with Ricky Steamboat.

I always wished the Great Muta would have jumped to the WWF in the mid 90s and became a member of Camp Cornette with Fuji and Yokozuna. The matches with Bret Hart in 1994/95 then Shawn Michaels in 1995/96 would have been amazing.
Also, if Kurt Angle could have arrived a few years early and taken the spot of The Patriot against Bret Hart in 1997.

Brock Lesnar 2012-2019 in WCW 91-93. Just to see him and Vader wreck each other.

Severn and Backlund would have been a beautiful match up that basically could have been a shoot until the finish needed to happen. They are both such professional and polite individuals I would love to hear be the referee for that.

Val deserves a better gimmick considering how solid of a worker he was, so I agree. He would have been booked better and been given longevity.

Wonder how Stone Cold from '96 and early '97 would have done in the Hulkamania era.
