Miro had all the momentum in the world and they had him drop it to a transitional champion for Cody Rhodes. Lol ok This. Miro made the title legit, and he often felt more important than even the world champ, Kenny Omega. He then drops the belt in weak fashion to Sammy, who goes on to do nothing with the title for a few months before dropping it to Cody of all people. Certainly one of the most confusing AEW moves, especially if you're going to have Sammy spend most of that time with the Inner Circle anyway. I give it 3 months before people forget he was champion in the first place.

Meh, not every champion needs to hold the belt for months on end. Was fine with Miro losing the belt to Sammy when he did and more than fine with Cody winning it now.

Fantastic episode.
I'm a HOOKer. That dude just gets it. He already does so many of the little things right. I love the business approach too. Win the match, don't even wait for your hand to be raised, just walk it off cuz it's no big deal. No need for fancy endzone cele's. Most intimidating move in sports. The nonchalant walk-off because its really no big deal and you're going to do it again. A man after my jock heart.
Statlander/Hirsch was really good too. Hirsch belongs in team taz. With that little attitude adjustment to match Hook/Hobbs, and a mouthpiece.
Main event was awesome. They set Sammy up so well for the long term with the way that went down. His promo before and his reaction after really sold it well, and set him up for a long term arc to get to the very top. Cody killing it as the delusional babyface, and hitting that magic spot where some people still really are behind him, and the ones who aren't really, really aren't. We had a chorus of boos, and then those adorable little girls in the front row who popped hard for him winning. Just magic. Definitely setting up Malakai to take it off Cody in relatively short order. He'll set up his beginning House of Black, with Brody, Julia Hart, and a couple others. They can dismantle the nightmare family and he'll take it off Cody, I'm guessing within 6 weeks.
I like that the TNT title changes hands a bit quicker. The constant defenses make it make sense. You don't defend the AEW title that freqeuntly, so you tend to hold it longer.

Cody knows exactly what he's doing and a lot of you are getting worked.
It's going to be glorious when he takes the belt off Hangman.

So glad Cody won the belt. For one, because Cody is playing the long game here. He is doing stuff to piss off the fans leading to his inevitable heel turn. And as said above, you wonder if he will take the title off Hangman. Will he reverse the decision on his no AEW World Title Matches clause? Because if he does, folks will be very upset. Especially when/if he wins the title.
It's fun to watch, and interesting to see where it goes and when he'll turn.
Second reason I'm glad Cody won is Sammy never felt like he should have the title. I like Sammy, he is very athletic and puts on a fun match. But it just wasn't time for him to be Champion. Especially not beating Miro. While Sammy is good in the ring as I said, he still has a long way to go to develop into someone I feel should be holding a title. That is just my opinion though.
But a great episode of Rampage. Loved Hook's match too.

Here’s the thing with me personally though. Me being against Cody winning the belt has nothing to do with the direction of his character or being worked or anything like that. I just haven’t enjoyed his booking his whole AEW run. I also loved Miro’s reign as champion and still don’t understand the point of ending it when they did. If you were just going to have Cody have the belt then have him beat Miro. Don’t put it on Sammy who did nothing of importance with it and was just a transitional champion. I’d be fine with Cody as a heel, if that’s where it goes with this, but I need more from him than I’ve been getting from him. He’s a very solid three star wrestler.

I know its not a popular opinion but I'm liking Cody more now then I probably have his whole AEW run. I don't see him holding the title for more then 3 months(I'm guessing less)so I completely fine with this outcome. Hopefully a guy like Jungle Boy,Black,Pac or somebody debuting can take the title from him.

That was wild. Some of those spots were insane definitely a great effort but why did Allie do a split on the tacks?

I can’t help but feel that this title run is off to a terrible start simply by starting it with a match against the Men of the Year. Everyone involved in this “feud” is just bleh to me.. I really couldn’t care less about this main event.

Very good show. I loved Cody’s shirt and him coming out in all black. Although I would have gone with black or white boots over the orange ones. To me orange is only a Halloween color. And if I was someone who still wears wrestling t-shirt that would be a shirt I would pick up.

That was wild. Some of those spots were insane definitely a great effort but why did Allie do a split on the tacks? She slipped on the tacks (that she introduced to the match) as she was going for her brass knuckles punch, giving Anna the opening for the Queenslayer. Live by the sword, die by the sword sort of thing. At least that's how I read it. If it was a mistake it was a great one that still works. Hats off to them cause the match was awesome.

I thought that was a lackluster end to the year. The women's match stole the show, but wasn't great by any stretch. They worked their asses off, but a lot of it comes across in slow motion when they are using the props. One table didn't break, one barely broke. By the end of the match the only thing that mattered was Bunny. She was LEAKING. She kept trying to wipe it off and her hands were getting covered in blood. She looked like a walking crime scene at times.

I think the slip was on purpose and the visual of her doing the splits on thumb tacks was the point.

Spears and Bunny are probably the two I dislike the most on the entire roster but I gotta give it to her she gave everything she had during that match and definitely proved me wrong.
