I'm new to the forum, and the customizing game, and damn, there are a lot of talented people here!
I'm starting small, and I want to cut the strands of hair that hang into the face of the ultimate Bret heads. I get what they were going for .... but... yeah, lol.
Has anyone done this before, and have any advice they can offer? Heating vs no heating, exacto knife vs sharp scissors? Anything that should be done after cutting, to tidy up and complete the look?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, as well as any pics of the finished product. I'm definitely looking forward to hanging here and learning, as well as seeing all the amazing work!

I feel bad that nobody has responded to you. I would offer advice but I've never cut hair before outside of a precursor to a full re-sculpt. Also, I've never customized a Bret ever. I will say that, the times I've cut off hair before, I've used sharp scissors without heating. I believe it was a pair of nail scissors. But, again, that was only because I was doing a full re-sculpt and didn't need to worry how neat it was. Wish I could help more, sorry.

I bought ultimate edition bret on the secondary market and it was the most expensive figure I've bought. The idea of cutting it doesn't sit well with me. Sure its your figure and you can do whatever you want but it's a valuable figure.
What are you planning on doing to it?

I did it with a DM Hitman, but not an UE. I used an exacting-knife and cut from behind the strands. Meaning cutting away from the figure’s head. This way the cut is hidden better. If you cut from the front of the hair strand towards the figure you will see the cut because it’ll be smooth without any texture. But I think the UE hair is stuck to the forehead a little so that might leave a black patch on his forehead when you cut it away. So I didn’t even bother trying. I would say if you were going to do it try it on the least favorite of the heads first. This way if you mess it up or just don’t like how it came out it was on a head you didn’t plan on using.

My advice is don’t:
It’s not ideal but every time I’ve seen someone cut the hair it looks even worse, and this is a very very rare and expensive figure now.
If the head really bothers you I would recommend buying a cheaper basic Bret and doing a headswap

If you asked Bret Hart what he thought about his figures routinely being butchered by mattel I guarantee you he would blame Hulk Hogan.

I fell like with the DM sculpt and a few others they got the profile right but not the head on. The DM figure’s has too straight/sharp angles to it. I feel Mattel’s best Hitman scan was the e42(?) Hart Foundation Hitman. Jakks best attempt was the CSDA yelling scan. But none are great.

I don't have a photo, but I just used regular scissors to cut the hair on one of the heads.

Thanks to everyone who replied. It was risky, but I went for it, and I'm happy with the result. It appears the Bret and Goldberg 2 pack has the same exact head, if you want to do it on a figure priced reasonably
I'll figure out how to post a picture if people want to see

I actually thought this was good, but when I saw your post, I couldn't unsee it. It IS John Cena, no question.

How it started Basically thinned and trimmed the middle so the face wasn't obscured and didn't look like Jerry only from the misfits lol. I would like to split that middle piece so its not one solid chunk, but I think im keeping like this, and not push it

Holy crap. That actually worked remarkibly well. I like it a lot.
If I had the ultimate edition, I would probably do this too. Love it.

Thank you. And like I said the Bret and Goldberg 2 pack appears to have that same exact head for Bret

Did you happen to repaint the eyes and brows too? It looks like it has the face print technology.

Irrespective of the face scan that’s a clean cut! I wouldn’t have known that was cut, great job

I’d really like to see the photo ref for the bret hair sculpt
Not sure how to post photos but if you google image search bret hart the photo 7th down on the left (below him shaking hands with Goldberg) is a good example where he does have a thick wedge of hair in the middle so it’s not inaccurate just not pulled off very well
