So with Mickie James retaining the iMPACT Knockouts Championship last night, that means she WILL enter the Royal Rumble as champion.
A huge deal in the sense of the forbidden door being opened.
With that being said, if you could 'dream book' some scenarios for WWE would they look like?
For me personally, I'd love to see AJ Styles vs. Trey Miguel for the X Division title.

Ricochet vs Chris Bey immediately jumps to mind.

Didn’t they send Christian there to do a match a few years back?

Didn’t they send Christian there to do a match a few years back? 2012 dixie/tna got to choose almost anyone..and she wanted him on the show. Its funny she got to choose anyone only 2 that they werent allowed were cena and rock. Bruce talked about it on his podcast. She apparently just loves christian so much she wanted him. Makes total sense as she trusted him and they were the ones that finally gave him his big break as a main eventer. He didnt have a match though just cut a promo.

AEW opening the forbidden door with Impact lead to the Goodbrothers stinking up Dynamite for several months, so Im not sure I want to see this forbidden door open.

Didn’t they send Christian there to do a match a few years back? I believe they sent Christian because WWE Wanted to induct the 4 horsemen in the hall of fame and that meant Ric Flair going in for a second time so TNA Agreed to let Ric get inducted with the horsemen so as a make good WWE Let Christian appear on TNA Programming.

I’m sure they’re looking at it like they’re giving an independent former star a spot more than any kind of crazy crossover with impact. Crazier would be to see the Iconics show up in it. They just don’t have enough girls who are known to fill it.

I don’t follow TNA and barely know 80% of the what’s left of the WWE roster. It would be funny if Strowman shows up on TNA, only to be used in WWE again.

I'm glad that WWE are acknowledging another promotion but I still hate the fact that they pretended Sting fell off the face of the Earth after WCW ended.

It's not like this is the first time the WWE has ever acknowledged a wrestling promotion besides themselves.
Having ECW stars appear on WWF Raw in 1997 with matches from March - July. Having Jerry Lawler wrestle on the ECW PPV in August of 1997, and have Vince, Jim Ross and The King all plug that on Raw the week before.
The NWA being used in 1998 with the NWA Champion Dan Severn being on Raw with the NWA Tag Champions the Rock 'n Roll Express.
So it's not like WWE opened a "forbidden door" it's more like, "Hey, IMPACT Wrestling has never hurt us, and are a welcomed bonus to pro wrestling, so let's use Mickie and give them a little positive boost." Plus IMPACT may be a bit spiteful after AEW closed the doors down on them a few months ago.

It only got bad after Bischoff & Hogan joined.

I thought that whole thing was just to make fun of Jim Cornette thinking it’s still 1981. But yeah, WWE working with/acknowledging the lesser companies is nothing new. Antonio Inoki won the WWE title. And they’d team up with Japanese promoters to co-run shows in Japan. There were a few little phases of WWE having Japanese/Mexican wrestlers on the shows. Rumble 1997 was packed with Luchdors and Minis. They even sent Undertaker to Smoky Mountain to fight New Jack once. That’d be like sending Bobbly Lashley to fight Nick Gage at some mudshow promotion ran by Malcolm Bivens. There’s the whole ECW invasion thing you mentioned, and Vince was largely keeping them afloat anyway. They mentioned WCW quite a bit during the attitude era, most notable probably being when DX tried to get into Nirro. And they’ve been using archive footage from ROH and TNA for career retrospectives etc for years. Even AEW, Vince offered to help when they first were setting up, supplied them with a bunch of wrestlers, and let Jericho plug them on the WWE Network.

Lmao is the revisionist history with aew starting already?? Have we forgotten all of the "please don't go to aew" contracts he gave out like candy? Or banning aew shirts at WWE events?? Give me a ing break. Not as hilarious as trying to talk about "lesser promotions" then mentioning Antonio ing inoki and trying to not be a comedian, but close. Jesus Christ man...I know you worship this company and seem to enjoy pretending they do no wrong but goddamn.

There was actually. Dustin Rhodes vs. Barry Windham happened on an NWA indy show in the summer of 1998 when Dustin was doing his whole, "he will return" stuff. So Vince was definitely working with what was left of the NWA during 1998 up until the end of summer.

1. WWE has had a long-running good relationship with Impact. Granted, using Impact wrestlers on WWE tv is a new height. But WWE doesn't see Impact as a threat, so they are ok with it.
2. I would not be surprised if a lot of this is to apologize (in a way) to Mickie James for how they let her go and the circumstances around that.
What would be really huge and telling is if at the Rumble, when she comes out, they announce her as the Impact Women's Champion. That would be a big deal. But that is not going to happen.

I highly doubt this opens a door. They just need more names for the Rumble.
