I guess the popular thing now is to dislike Cody Rhodes, and of course Cornette and his co-host are on board. But like...I think he's really good. Loved the promo last week. The reality show he has seems silly, but I just don't watch. I don't need to get THAT in-depth into his life. Do you like Cody Rhodes?

I like Cody Rhodes. I don't care what Jim Cornette, or most wrestling fans, for that matter, think. I don't understand why anyone would let that shape their opinion. I think Cody has a tendency to overinflate himself sometimes, and that he has a tendency to come off as unlikable in his role as an EVP/person outside the ring, but I also understand that he feels like he has impossible shoes to fill, daddeh.

The only problem with Cody is that they tried to make him THE guy (like a HHH) but he just isn't that. Now it's too late to downshift him into something else. So what you're left with is someone who is supposed to be the top dog, doing programs meant for lesser characters. He's stuck in this weird void where he can't be given the top storyline, but can't come out acting like a mid-carder. AEW really needs to somehow let his world title stipulation go away. Then he can go full heel and challenge a babyface champ. Cody works better as a heel in the first place. But if all he can do is go for the TNT title, or enter programs against someone who attacks him (Black) ... we're just left with: uhh ... ok, there's Cody again ... bathroom break I guess.

Still a huge Cody fan, and loving the delusional Babyface half turned heel thing he's doing. Thought the promo last week was fantastic.

I love Cody’s entire AEW run, even what others consider missteps to me were solid
right now we’re seeing the meltdown from fan rejection that Cena never gave us

Good wrestler who has been booked very meh his AEW run and continues to have rambling promos that miss the mark. Honestly would prefer if he and Dustin just became a full time tag team.

Hot take; I hope he beats Hangman for the title.

I like Cody.
I really don't know why there is a reason to hate Cody. If not for Cody, AEW wouldn't really be here. He was a huge factor in getting AEW going.

Hot take; I hope he beats Hangman for the title. Same, I'm happy for hangman to hold the belt for a good length of time but Cody to take the gold, and cement the heel turn is perfect

Cody is a mid carder who is booked to look like this mega star which he is not. One of his most annoying features is his entrance. The huge pyro and the way Roberts announces him is OTT. It makes Cody look like a living legend and the greatest thing in all of pro wrestling which can sour fans.
He was a known name that helped put AEW on the map, but that was 3 years ago. The company has built and elevated a new generation of stars and I believe people see Cody as a threat to their favorites. The hate for him really started when Black debut. At the time fans feared that Cody would bury him and the boo's started from there.
I'm telling you if they dare have him go over Page he will become the most hated heel in the entire modern era of Pro Wrestling.

My take on Cody is that when AEW first started he seemed like an essential piece of the puzzle. In the years that have gone on, it just feels like the sore thumb that sticks out in a bad way. He's trying way to hard to be everything that WWE is on the entertainment side, and its not AEW at all. The Big goofy ass, long-drawn out entrances, which draw comparison to Triple H which is funny because its everything he keeps trying to get away from. Every one of his stories essentially become a pity party. MJF betrayed him, Archer attacked him, Brodie and Dark Order brutalized him, Black took him out, grandpa Arn got beat up again, QT Marshall betrayed him, etc.. etc... etc... and he'll go away and then in a month or two make some grandiose return because why not? Its the same story over and over again, just insert Cody and "Wrestler B" and there's your Cody Rhodes feud formula. Like kinnikuman said, he should be an upper main event guy but even when the roster wasn't loaded like it is now he didn't really quite cut it like others were. And the times where he disappeared to do other shows/media stuff didn't help either. People didn't tune in to Dynamite week to week, endlessly praying for that Cody Rhodes return, instead they moved on to interest in other talent. So now he kind of sits in this black hole space looking from the outside in at the true Main Eventers (Omega, Danielson, Hangman, Cole, Moxley, Punk, Jericho), the young guys that are really the spark of AEW and from a character development standpoint are way more intriguing (MJF, Jungle Boy, Darby, Sammy, Orange Cassidy, Hook) and the guys who are solid hands/attractions (Miro, Black, Pac, Andrade, Christian, Sting, Kingston). In a nutshell it feels like AEW has passed him by.

I understand his importance to AEW and what he's done for the promotion and it's really admirable. I even really liked a lot of his early AEW storylines/matches with some of my favorites being his stuff with Darby, Dustin, Jericho, MJF, and Brodie. However, I can't say I've been a fan of Cody since the dog collar match. After that storyline I don't think he's had a good feud really. The Factory, Malakai Black, Andrade, and now this weak Guevara feud... They've all felt so lackluster to me with some BIG matches to make it seem important that just fell flat. It doesn't help that I think his character and promos are all over the place and it never seems like there's an end goal like a lot of other storylines. The ending racism promo and the weigh-in sucked, the best moment from the Malakai feud was Arn Anderson's glock comments, and the Andrade feud felt like a really weak connection to the Black feud with no memorable moments for me other than the awfully executed flaming table spot. It just seems like he's trying to pump out "moments" with all the big spots and extravagant entrances and promos... especially the absolutely awful promo he cut when he returned last week. It just really sucks because I liked Cody early on but he's sort of lost his luster and fallen off hard with a lot of what he's involved in. I hope this changes soon with a big shakeup or something but until then he's not gonna be a must-watch guy in the company.
Edit: Forgot about the lame ass smashing of the throne lmao that's one old Cody moment that was super cringe

I hate the Triple H comparison but thinking about it, I think the Jarrett TNA comparison works a bit. Not in that he’s put himself over so many people, but in that he was one of the bigger names for the company in the first couple years but as the company started signing bigger names and picking up, he became less of a major focus. He still has his role to play and puts on decent matches but when you have guys like Bryan, Page, Omega, Cole, and Punk, you don’t look like the star you did at the start.

I think most people that throw a fit about him are getting worked and it's hilarious.
