Why did perfect no showed? Isn't it weird how macho replaced him when perfect did the same thing for machos partner the previous year?
Did hbk actually insult the Hart family? I know that was Lawler's thing & why he got replaced but I don't recall Shawn bothering the harts. Who were 2 of his knights? I know one of them was Valentine because Vince called him Greg on commentary lol.
Why did Tom Pritchard come down the ring always scratching his head? He looked dumb. Is this where Phil Apollo doink debuted? I remembered as a kid being disappointed in the 4 doinks. I actually wanted to see 4 of them kinda of like Shawn's knights did it.

I don't know if anything was officially said but I thought I read somewhere that Mr. Perfect's back injury from 2 years prior was starting to cause him issues again, so they just replaced him with Savage. He was supposed to come back in 1994 and start feuding with Lex Luger again, but his back was not doing well and he couldn't compete.
As for HBK taking Lawler's place at the Survivor Series. Lawler had some legal issues in 1993 in Memphis and was not going to be able to make the PPV. The roster was thin at that time, so they brought HBK back from suspension and hot-shotted him into the feud. They did some vignettes of HBK insulting some of the Hart family members, mostly Stu and Helen.
As for the other knights, one was Barry Horowitz and the other was Jeff Gaylord, both of these guys were jobbers in the WWF and USWA (Lawler's company) at the time. One of them was supposed to be Terry Funk but he declined.
I'm not sure if this is when Ray Appollo debuted as Doink, but he was in the Doink role at the time of the event.

Also the video is a hidden gem, so that means it didn't air. Was there anything else involving Shawn insulting the harts? Also in the video who was that guy with Shawn? I vaguely remember him for his Dusty impression. Did he do anything before or after WWF?

The kayfabe reason was because he didnt defend the IC belt in over 30 days but the real reason was he failed a drug test That is the is only footage of Shawn ripping on the Harts IIRC as he was a last minute sub for Lawler. They literally at the 11th hour put em in there And the guy in the video is ''Rio Rogers'' aka Bruce Prichard.

Between real-life issues and storyline purposes, there were a ton of changes to the roster on that show.
As already mentioned, the absence of Mr. Perfect was likely due to his previous back issues flaring up again. They tried to bring him back into the fold at WrestleMania X to work an angle between him a Luger, but he disappeared again right afterwards and wouldn't wrestle again until 1997 when he went to WCW.
Lawler was accused of rape in his hometown of Memphis which resulted in the company taking his character off the air immediately. He would also not return until WrestleMania X - as a ringside commentator along with Vince - once the case was settled. The Hart/Lawler feud was one of the hottest rivalries at the time in 1993, so subbing out Lawler for Michaels really took the wind out of the sails for their Survivor Series match. They tried to just drop Michaels into the Lawler role being the antagonist who verbally assaulted the Hart family, but it came off as really forced. Bret defeated Shawn at the previous Survivor Series in 1992 which they used as a desperate attempt to give it some sizzle. Otherwise, it was just really strange seeing HBK team up with these three generic knight characters.
Matt Borne was definitely featured in the promos leading up to the PPV (which were taped in October) before he was fired for drug-related issues, but I am almost certain that Survivor Series 1993 was the debut of Ray Apollo who appeared on the big screen after the match. It was so obvious that it was a different person playing the role and it was downhill from there for the Doink character.
The main event saw two swaps although these were part of the storyline with both Tatanka and Pierre being taken out of the match being replaced by Undertaker and Crush. I was a huge Tatanka fan so his removal devastated me, but these changes allowed them to further push the Yokozuna/Undertaker and Crush/Savage rivalries which would continue for several months.
As for Tom Prichard, I always thought he was just teasing his voluminous mullet like some kind of 80s hair band member who lives his life engulfed in a cloud of hairspray.

I vaguely remember him for his Dusty impression. Did he do anything before or after WWF? The Brain nailed it. Shawn was suspended for real for failing a drug test, but the reason they gave on TV was he didn't defend the title enough, so he was suspended and stripped of the title. That reasoning led to the battle royal on raw to crown a new IC champion (actually, the last two men in the battle royal would face off in a one-on-one match the following week to determine the new IC champion). This led to Razor winning the IC title for the first time. I believe Shawn really refused to send the IC title back to the WWF, so they made a brand new one for Razor. When Shawn was brought back, he, or the office, came up with the idea that he should continue wearing the old IC title while Razor wore the new one. This would start an instant feud between the two as to who was the real IC champion, which would be settled at WM10. As for the video, I feel like I've seen that before, so I think it was aired at some point, maybe in the lead-up to the actual Survivor Series PPV on the pre-show for the event. Also, I thought I remembered Shawn on Raw just before the Survivor Series running down the Hart family, but I can't find anything like that on youtube. Anyway, the only reason Shawn ran down the Hart's at all was to give a valid reason for him being put in the match in Lawler's place. After the Survivor Series, nothing else was made of Shawn having issues with the Harts. The roster was really thin at the time and Shawn was the only person they really had at the time that could have been put in the match. Plus they probably wanted a big name to go opposite of the Harts. They could have possibly put in Jeff Jarrett since he worked with Lawler in Memphis and began making appearance in the WWF at the time, but I don't think he was a big enough name to put him in the match. And yes, Rio Rogers was Bruce Prichard (aka Brother Love) in a wig and mustache doing his Dusty Rhodes accent. I don't think this character hung around too long.

He was the head of creative then. Don't get me started on how bad he is now!

The Shawn video at the "Hart" house was on the Survivor Series Showdown. The Reo Rodgers gimmick was pretty silly. Outside of newsletter readers who may read the news, would a fan specifically know it was an impression of Dusty? It was an "over the top" impression too, so not exactly like Dusty. I watched WWF and WCW at the time and didn't know.

I didn't like how it was handled with Razor's intro saying Perfect "tag out..." WWF spent the last year developing Perfect as a face and it basically comes off like saying "this guy you fans invested in for a year as a good guy is just a loser who know shows." And it wasn't like there was a backstory with him being scared of anyone. For storyline purposes it really helped the show with Macho being able to be on it. But I think they should have found another way to get Perfect off, like a backstage beating or some sorts.

He had the "Loser Leaves Town" match on Raw against Flair which was fine, but happened kind of suddenly and just felt like an abrupt end to their feud. His feud with Luger was what it was and then the match with Shawn at SummerSlam fell flat despite looking like a dream encounter on paper. His match against Bret at KOTR was probably the closest we got to the Mr. Perfect of old and he had a very good series of Kmatches against Doink as well that aren't as well known.

yeah, loved his kotr qualifier matches. original doink was very good too.
prefect is my fav wrestler of all time so it kinda sucked for me as i loved him turning good but he didnt get to do much with it.
since bret is always getting the belt, i feel they shoulda let perfect win the kotr tourny.

Bam Bam supposedly gets Matt Bourne fired for smoking weed in the hall.
Bam Bam recommends Ray Apollo for the Doink gimmick and gets him hired.
Apollo debuts at Survivor Series while Bourne had already taped a ton of stuff in the lead up to the PPV. So while he served his suspension he was still being shown on TV.
Steve Kerin is also working as Doink in late 93 on the indies. So at one time in the States we had three Doinks!
Bam Bam is upset and vocal that he has to face Doink at Mania ten....the guy he recommended for job.

But things had to be changed up when Hogan decided not to do a program with Bret.

The Ray Apollo Doink was so corny and essentially just like a circus clown. Before that feud you could argue Bam Bam was one of those guys that was solidly in the main event/ top mid card guy. Main eventing house shows against Bret, Tatanka, and Taker. The feud with Doink felt like it took him down a few notches.

If he was still in the title picture at the time, I think Perfect would have been the favorite to win the King of the Ring and it would have been effective in kind of reestablishing him as a top-tier guy. I'm a firm believer that not every guy needs a belt, but Perfect needed SOMETHING during that comeback run because outside of the match with Flair on Raw he didn't win very much at all.
