Rewatched most of the matches. They had the full Keith Lee match on youtube, watched that one again first. Wife was on the couch with me. Next to CM Punks return speech, that's the most engaged she's ever been. She was completely enthralled with Keith. Between how good of an athlete he is, and how well he can operate at 340lbs+, combined with his mannerisms, she was shouting at the tv by the end. They did such a great job with his debut. Came across like an absolute star, showcased all of his strengths, let his personality come through in spades. The crowd helped a lot too, hitting the chant right as soon as the music stopped. I know Keith had a lot of health issues the past year, so he's probably not quite in the shape he'd want to be for his own standards, but the dude still looks and moves like a beast of an athlete. Inb4 someone with no real sports knowledge goes "He's chubby".
Switchblade. I took an educated guess, wore my switchblade shirt last night. I popped hard. I'm so glad Japan is super shut down and Jay is in America for indefinite really.
I really enjoyed Jade/AQA. I saw a lot of people on the meltzer forums crapping on it (I haven't read through this topic no idea what the response here was) and I don't get it. Yeah you could see Bryce calling some spots, they're both newer. Can hear Becky call spots all the time way louder and no one loses their mind. 2 great athletes showcasing their strengths well. AQA with the little shove dropkick, and the crazy SSP. She moves fast, sells decent. I already preferred her in ring work to 90% of Becky Lynch matches. It sounds like I'm just trying to crap all over Becky, but I'm really not. I'd say she's the worst in ring out of the 4 horsewomen and Bianca/Asuka, aka the big guns in WWE. So, I kind of use her abilities as a barometer as the minimum level of in ring ability required to hit that level of stardom. She's not awful in the ring by any stretch, just a good representative of where the floor might be. But I legit thought AQA looked better than 90% of those matches. Moved more fluid, more athletic. Some of that may just be the AEW pacing compared to WWE pacing though, where it can feel like I'm watching paint dry. Jade hitting the tour of the islands was awesome. Great move for her to add to her arsenal. That was definitely a Ricky Starks style tryout for AQA and I think she nailed it.
People are always going to judge women's wrestling more harshly than mens. They walk in with blinders expecting it to be bad, and picking out every little flaw. I saw just as many clunky botches in Punk/Mox vs FTR, and those are 4 of the best in the company! It happens. It happens in real fights too. For all the ones that complain about AEW's flippy guys being too choreographed and fake looking, they sure have trouble when a fight looks clunky like a real fight does. Were they on the level that Deeb is coming out 5 minutes later? No, of course not. But as much as Hangman is my favourite wrestler in the world, I know in the ring Bryan Danielson is still better. Deeb is the female version of him, so same idea applies.
Speaking of which, loved Hangman/Archer. Archer was in my top 5 wants, and Hangman is my guy, so I was happy as can be getting this as my main event.
I think it was probably my favourite dynamite of all time, but allowing for recency bias I'll say top 5 for sure. (Barring the Brodie tribute, that is always #1 but it doesn't even get counted because that's something different altogether)
