Noise is that the weeks-long negotiations between Cody and AEW broke down just yesterday. And the WWE side firmly believes a deal with Cody and Brandi is pretty much imminent.

The fact that there are people who honestly believe this is real tells me there is hope for old-school pro wrestling kayfabe in 2022.
Looking forward to the next chapter of this storyline.

I wonder if things would be different if the crowds had reacted to him the way he wanted. Maybe he feels legitimately hurt by the smart fans of AEW, and wants to go back to a more traditional audience. That said, I wonder what'll happen with the reality show. How funny would it be if he got the green light to keep the show going, but on USA?

Two of the most reliable dirt sheets in Sapp and Wrestlevotes are reporting he’s expected in WWE so I’m assuming it’s more than a storyline. Going to be pretty funny if everyone who claimed he was working everyone with his over the top babyface crap were wrong and he legit wanted to be cheered and was bothered he wasn’t.

No disrespect, I love the sentiment, but is Amanda Huber in any way qualified to be a Chief Brand Officer?
Edit: Also, if Cody leaves AEW for WWE, all of his good will wrestling revolutionary respect that he built (he is still respected even if he isn't particularly well-liked) will go up in flames. Kenny and the Bucks will be the guys who made AEW happen, Cody will just be the corporate shill who clearly cared more about money. He won't be the Triple H or the Cena anymore, he'll be the Hogan.
And who is a bigger heel in modern wrestling than Hulk Hogan??? It's a work!!!! it's part of the Cody making himself the greatest heel of the new generation!
Or maybe I was wrong about all of that and he really is super naive about his image and far more egotistical than I thought. I really don't know what to think anymore. If Shane pops up in AEW and Cody goes to WWE I will be positive that they are working together however.

He’s gonna attack Tony Khan at the end of Dynamite and say “I still got a lot left in the tank!” and finally turn heel

I've firmly been behind Rhodes since his WWE departure, I'm truly sad to see him gone from AEW. Here's to hoping we will see him back again in some capacity.

If true, I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t miss him. Guy is always solid in the ring even though I’ve never been big on his self-indulgence promos.
If he runs the indies for a bit, or decides to hang his boots up, I can see fans still respecting him. But if he goes back to the WWE I see all the good-will he built up with more dedicated fans going down the drain.
Is Cody as egotistical as it appears on TV with his character? Was he truly hurt that his outdated face character was heavily rejected by AEW fans? Did his supposed bad relationship with the other EVPs push him to making this decision? Who knows, but if true, it’ll make a hell of a dark side of the Ring story one day.

Could this be some weird Brandi wrestling issue. Like she wants to be on top and no one sees that as viable, or the fact that maybe she shouldn't wrestle, and somewhere else would? Cody cannot just eat all the things he said about WWE and what he was about could he? That is straight white heat and no one wants that. He may be smearing the Rhodes name, to some degree.

The worst parts of AEW are gone? Cody, Brandi, and the worst tattoo in wrestling? Oh praise the lord!

As I highly doubt TMZ would have any dog in this, they claim Cody's departure was the culmination of a falling out between him and TK.

This is definitely odd, but sometimes real life is stranger than fiction. On one hand, I don't think Cody could have been given a bigger media platform than he has with TNT/TBS, and he seems to have made the most of that.
On the other hand, going into AEW's start, Cody seemed like the most logical guy to have the pencil. He seemed to have smarts for the business and the lineage to really be the face of the company in a way the other EVPs couldn't. Tony has really come into his own as a booker in a way that I don't think anyone saw coming. Maybe there were doors Cody wanted to be there that just weren't going to be possible. The Codyverse seemed like a bit of a compromise there, where he had his own little world within the larger AEW picture.
I guess we'll see where this goes. I've been a Cody fan for a long time, and will continue to be. But I have zero interest in watching him in WWE again, if that's the direction he goes.

Cody cannot just eat all the things he said about WWE and what he was about could he? That is straight white heat and no one wants that. He may be smearing the Rhodes name, to some degree. While this is all speculation, Cody comes off as being somewhat egotistical (from watching his character work, Rhodes to the Top, and reports over the past few years). Couple this with Brandi clearly wanting to wrestle and be presented as a bigger deal than she is, and I can see her playing a role in Cody leaving (if this is all true and not a work). Brandi has been clear on Rhodes to the Top that she wants to wrestle and be a top star. Yes, it’s reality TV, but there’s always some truth behind how people are portrayed, and Brandi has mentioned this in interviews as well. Perhaps fans cheering PVZ over her upset her her like Cody is supposedly upset with fans booing him. Either way it comes off like Brandi played a role in Cody’s decision for sure.

As I highly doubt TMZ would have any dog in this, they claim Cody's departure was the culmination of a falling out between him and TK. I saw a sheet that said Cody wanted equity in AEW and Tony isn't budging. TK is under the impression that being on the board of EVPs and a member of the roster is going to be Cody's ceiling. That's fine. Tony Khan fronted all this money, energy, and time to basically revitalize wrestling in the eyes of a lot of fans. He had a lot of support along the way but at the end of the day, none of it would've happened without Tony Khan. Too bad this is how it ended but I get it.

Mike Johnson is basically saying it all came down to money and power. Cody and Brandi weren’t getting more of either of those and that was pretty much it.

He is legit #2 in the public's eyes, but stock options would be the normal equity, and they are not publicly traded, so I fail to see what he wanted there. The booking capabilities? Didn't the book go to TK to make it more cohesive? WWE isn't giving power to him, full stop...I guess maybe it is about the almighty dollar, though I figure he had tons already.
