If Cody is intent on continuing to wrestle then I imagine he will go back to WWE. I just don’t know how long he’ll be able to put up with how WWE runs, which he already knows all about. Maybe he can deal with it better if he’s a closer to the main event guy, I don’t know.

As I highly doubt TMZ would have any dog in this, they claim Cody's departure was the culmination of a falling out between him and TK. I saw a sheet that said Cody wanted equity in AEW and Tony isn't budging. TK is under the impression that being on the board of EVPs and a member of the roster is going to be Cody's ceiling. That's fine. Tony Khan fronted all this money, energy, and time to basically revitalize wrestling in the eyes of a lot of fans. He had a lot of support along the way but at the end of the day, none of it would've happened without Tony Khan. Too bad this is how it ended but I get it. This is all his dad's money. Tony didn't front any of it.

Dad's money, Tony's money -- whatever. Tony has a lot on the line as the owner. I don't think his stake in the company changes much whether its his dad's money or not. It really wasn't the focus of the comment at all.

I am shocked that Cody left AEW.To me he along with the Young Bucks are the heart & soul of the company(to a lesser degree Jericho,Omega and Page as well)but seems like this has been building for months.
I've meet Cody twice and a super nice guy and very fan friendly, when was talking with him back in November seemed really happy with AEW and his career and where he was in life.Have a feeling things went south with Tony basically running everything now, having the rumored falling out with Omega & The Bucks and lastly with how much talent has been brought in over the last year or so.
Really think when AEW launched he thought or was promised that basically he,the Bucks & Omega would basically run everything and that Tony was just going to be the money man. Then as time went on and Cody had a different view and take on wrestling then the others and Tony taking all of the power away that AEW became not what he had wanted it to be.
This is a major lose by AEW but in away also frees up a little room on the card as AEW is still extremely bloated with 25 to 30 talents that should be in the upper mid card or main event scene.Just think in the past year they've brought in Punk,Danielson,Christian,Lee,Lethal,Cole,Andrade,Black...ect so they can clearly off set his lose in terms of talent but still a pretty big blow.
I truly hope his return to WWE goes great and he's booked as a main eventer and get a world title reign or more.He should clearly be booked at the top of the card when he returns as WWE badly lacks drawing power right now as on the male side of things the only full time active talents they have are Reigns,Rollins,Styles,Lashley,McIntrye,Orton,New Day and the Usos as any really type of draws.

little wild here, but hear me out... he becomes part owner in the NWA to try and continue its resurgence. He wants to be like his dad and honor his dad. What better way then to bring the NWA back to the top. He obviously wants to book like his dad and he didn’t have a booking position in AEW

I’d hope he’d get rid of all the trash like Tyrus and Aries that Billy brought in.

Bully Ray had some interesting things to say about this today. Most people think AEW is this super perfect place to work, bottom line is its business. If both sides couldn't come to terms then they split. AEW has changed drastically since they started. I think this next year will show once those initial contracts lapse and people start leaving. The Bucks know they're not going to make this much money working 1 or 2 days a week which is why they resigned with little issue. Maybe for Cody he feels like he has a higher ceiling. It'll be interesting to see how the whole nightmare factory/AEW partnership works out.

Cody held himself to a higher value than Khan felt was reasonable, especially with all the high-profile signings since last spring.

Cody held himself to a higher value than Khan felt was reasonable, especially with all the high-profile signings since last spring. From all reports so far, Cody basically booked his own demise in AEW by refusing to turn heel and sticking to his stipulation of never fighting for the world title. In the early days of AEW this worked fine as they didn’t have as many well-established names. But as they’ve signed more and more names over the past few years (both main event and midcard talent), Cody’s place on the card continued to diminish. Cody deciding to cap himself in the midcard and his often hit-or-miss segments effectively began the end of his (to this point) AEW run. I can’t blame Tony for making a business decision for not wanting to sign Cody to more money when there’s no story currently to raise his stock on the show. And to no shock, reports also state that Brandi was disliked by nearly everyone within the company, so no love-lost there lol.

The fact that there are people who honestly believe this is real tells me there is hope for old-school pro wrestling kayfabe in 2022. Looking forward to the next chapter of this storyline. So....still liking this take?

I honestly hope that the rumors of the EVPs powers being basically removed is true. Its never good to have higher ups who still also perform. It always seemed like a conflict of interest. I'd be curious to know about the behind the scenes stuff with the EVPs. Kenny and Bucks don't do it for me ring wise of character wise. I liked Cody for the most part and him and Jericho more less seemed to be the faces of AEW for me. Now granted I didn't watch NJPW or Being the Elite so my exposure to the YB and Kenny is from AEW basically. But with the higher end talent coming in, and possible friction from the EVP standpoint its interesting. AEW is interesting all together, as what they promised and what they delivered is truly 50/50.
