Back in the days of JR and the Attitude Era, swearing became semi-common at the commentary desk, especially in moments of high emotion. Do the modern commentators swear? I feel like the “A” word, “D” word, or “H” word pop up from time-to-time with Pat (maybe even Cole), but I don’t think I’ve heard Jimmy Smith swear at all. I’m totally fine with the change, I’d say that post-2008 PG WWE has done a good job in recreating Gorilla Monsoon-era commentary at least in that category. The Attitude Era had great commentary, and Ross is my favorite of all time (and I’d say he probably proved he could easily do commentary without swearing in early 1990s WCW and mid-‘90s WWF), but things change.
So I ask…do the modern commentators swear much? If no, do you think it’s for the better or worse?

only commentary team with a dirty mouth is GCW, and it kinda fits the product they're aiming for

From my time watching, the one that went too far almost every night was Paul Heyman when him and JR were doing Raw in 2001. He just didn't give a shit, not so much blatant swearing but some of the things he said looking back I can't believe he got away with but it was a different era/world I guess.

"Hell" isn't a swear word 😂 They say it on kiddies telly! You'll be saying "damn" and "bugger" are next.

I'm actually shocked at how much Pat gets away with saying. He cusses more than anyone else on any of the shows, I swear. At WrestleMania, the only person with a fouler mouth than him was Stone Cold.
But then I really think that's part of his charm. McAfee is such a breath of fresh air on commentary that it makes watching RAW almost unbearable in comparison. I honestly had forgotten how much fun wrestling could be without having to mentally block out people like Corey Graves. The SmackDown commentary team is probably my all time favorite commentary team or, if it's not, it's second only to Michael Cole and Tazz 20 years earlier. I have no use for a heel announcer. Let me judge the characters on their own merit, I don't need horrible heelish crap from the announcers drilling into my head who I should be rooting for. It's grating and annoying.
I dunno, I really really hate the RAW announce team.

McAfee is fascinating; even when the Friday night product is putting out something less-than-desirable, the way he verbalizes his passion for it/interest in it makes me really look at it differently. His voice was a good investment. And good call on Cole/Tazz. Taz/Tazz is really, really good. Both are, really, and we see it in the fact that both are still commentating on major cable/broadcast shows 20 years later.

Jerry the King is definitely my favorite. His jokes don't need swearing. I think just a reaction like JR and Graves is better than having to "swear" on the mic.

The last actual swear a commentator said on-air on WWE TV was Corey Graves saying "holy sh*t" when Lashley and Strowman went tumbling through the stage into a bunch of explosions in the early days of Heyman as Raw's Creative Director so like...Summer 2019-ish?
