So from what I gather, the Steiners basically got brought in to replace LOD. Be the top team, and be one of the headliners on house shows. That more or less happened to start. They headlined the B house shows with Money Inc all summer. But essentially after that it all went down hill. The money wasn’t what they thought it would be cause the houses were smaller, the Quebeckers didn’t really hit as that replacement team for Money Inc. Steiners (specifically Scott) became unhappy. Is there really anything that could have been done? I feel like it was a missed opportunity but at the same time what really in a short period of time could they have done?

I’ve read that Vince was interested in a singles run for Scott (same as the NWA/WCW back then), but as we’ve always heard, Scott wanted to remain a team with his brother. Knowing that Scott was against a singles run at the time and the lackluster roster to work with, I’m not sure much could have been done to change their minds about eventually leaving.

tag scene was really lacking and they were one of the only decent teams still left.
they should have did a big fued & ppv match/matches with bret/owen. they had a great match and it was real brothers vs brothers.

Not sure what you could have done. Tag division was lacking hard at that time unfortunately. If only they were able to come in 90

It seems like a no-win scenario to me. The WWF tag scene was pretty bad, and business remained bad for the next few years. I don't think there was much that could have kept them happy, aside from giving them a higher percentage. Maybe there could have been programs with Bret/Owen or HBK/Diesel if they stuck around. But Vince strapped a rocket to Shawn and Kevin, so the Steiners would have just been putting them over. Owen/Bret is a dream matchup for me (there is a match on one of the compilation tapes), but I don't know that Vince would want Bret tied up in anything beyond a short tag program. And do you turn the Steiners? Because face vs face doesn't have the same draw.
Even if they had gone back to WCW, you have a dream matchup with the Blondes. But beyond that the tag scene is Stars and Stripes, Pretty Wonderful, etc. Japan really was the option that makes the most sense in terms of money and matchups.
The timing is just sort of a bummer. The Steiners just caught the tail end of a golden age in tag wrestling, but we missed out on so many dream matchups by a year or two. And when they came back to WCW from Japan, you had a pretty great division with Harlem Heat, Sting & Luger, various 4 Horseman combinations, and LOD for hot second. But they were past their top form by that point, and Scott had become too big. Their run was good, but not what it could have been 3-4 years earlier.

Yeah Vince 100% pursued them to replace LOD.
As said above? They had nobody to work with. Assuming everything went to plan & they regained from The Quebecers at WMX? There was hardly anyone for them to work with.
Although if they had played ball a bit better with Vince there could have been feuds with HBK/Diesel & Owen/Yoko as well as various permutations of the Million $ squad.
Hard to know....but yeah they weren't happy with the payoffs.

Vince hinted on a Raw in April of 1994 that the Steiners were having issues with each other, trying to play it up that they weren't getting along. Yet, the tag match ran smoothly and you didn't see any issues at all. That was the last time we got to see Rick and Scott on WWF TV then.
I still wonder why Vince felt the need to hotshot The Quebecers with the Tag Titles so fast?? Rick and Scott just won them back in late June and by early September they lose them.
I never understood why they didn't have the Steiners beat Money Inc. at King of the Ring for the WWF Tag Titles, instead of that dumb 8 man tag match. Then they win the belts at a TV taping that doesn't get shown, and then loses them at another TV taping I believe, two days later, only to win them back again like a day later or so at a house show.
Makes me wonder if he was unsure at the time if he wanted the Steiners to be Tag Champions and then finally said, "Okay, show the clips of the title changes on Superstars this week."

The house show changes were to try and boost the house show business to show titles changed hands at house shows and to boost the Steiners vs Money Inc programs Main eventing the B shows through the Summers. The switch in September was actually long term booking. It was actually to give the Quebecers a decent reign to make the Steiners win at Mania X to feel like a big deal. But by the time we got to mania the relationship with the company had already soured.

Just a shame. I really liked the Steiners, and enjoyed their work in WCW. I was really looking forward to them in the WWF. They started out really well, the WWF built them up as the next big tag team. And I really enjoyed their feud with Money Inc., I thought those teams worked well together. I liked their feud with the Quebecers, but I think they made them drop the belts too early, giving the Quebecers a much longer reign then they should have had. In hindsight, they should have built the Steiner's up really strong, giving them a long tag team title reign, then after WM10 they could have worked with HBK & Diesel and the Headshrinkers, and if they continued into 1995, they could have worked with Owen/Yoko and Camp Cornette. I think part of the problem was Vince really wanted Scott to be a single star, he was even looked at to come in and win the 1993 Royal Rumble, but Scott didn't want to split from his brother and break up the team. But, like most people have already pointed out, the tag team division at this time was really poor, perhaps the poorest in WWF history. Had they come in earlier, in 1990 or 1991, they could have built to a dream good guy vs. good guy match with LOD (similar to Warrior/Hogan).

One thing I wish we got was a proper feud with the Headshrinkers. Always great chemistry with em dating back to 89 in WCW

One thing I wish we got was a proper feud with the Headshrinkers. Always great chemistry with em dating back to 89 in WCW Their match at WrestleMania IX is still an underrated banger especially on that card which if it weren't for the childhood nostalgia is pretty damn weak. This was hard-hitting as expected with a few crazy spots like Scott getting dumped out of the ring all the way to the floor and Rick slamming Samu while on Fatu's shoulders which still blows my mind. Another forgotten gem that many don't seem to remember is their match against the Heavenly Bodies at SummerSlam that year. For two teams with no history of working together, these guys had great chemistry. Cornette on the outside made it even better. I much rather would have seen their program continue as opposed to being a one shot deal. Pretty sure the next episode of Raw was the one where they lost the belts to the Quebecers who literally came out of nowhere. They had a solid run and were booked pretty strong, but it should have been better. As someone else said, the Steiners arrived in the WWF about three years too late.

You could even argue that when they brought the Steiners in they had an ok tag team division. When they came in the tag team division was.
Money Inc, Natural Disasters, Beverly Brothers, Headshrinkers, Nasty Boys, High Energy, and The Bushwhackers. Within 6 months of their debut all those teams are virtually gone except for the Headshrinkers and The Bushwhackers.

I mean in all likelihood they never would have made it to Mania X card anyway with Rick suffering that injury. I mean essentially after that Scott wrestled house shows and the one KOTR qualifier right?

Yeah, the Summer Slam match with the Heavenly Bodies was really good, a classic tag team matchup. And you're right, the Quebecers did come out of nowhere. Prior to them beating the Steiner's for the WWF Tag Team Titles, I don't remember them much. It's as if they appeared one week, then got a tag team title match a week later and won the belts. Not a lot of buildup for the team.

I just read an article in Wrestle America Magazine today from 1994 talking about Wrestlemania X.
No way were the Steiner Brothers injured at that time frame. Apparently they were off wrestling in USWA and Smoky Mountain Wrestling doing shows for Lawler and Cornette. My guess is that Vince was mad that the Steiners wouldn't do a split after Mania, so therefore they didn't get the Wrestlemania title match against the Quebecers.
