😍 I'm so damn excited for that match. Only minor nitpick and albeit minor is I wish they met like naturally through the brackets and not like “hey we are gonna make FTR wrestle” it would have had more intrigue if they showed the brackets and people could be like oh they might wrestle each other. I think it's a qualifying match though. Not yet the tournament.

I thought the show was awesome. Kyle O' Reilly is badass. I should have watched more of his stuff in NXT because I only ever caught his match with Balor. He gives me 02 Kurt Angle vibes, mixed with Muay Thai. Love it.
Blackpool Combat Club rules. Thank God Yuta changed his gear.
Dax vs Cash should be a classic.

So I caught some of the show live last night but watched some highlights earlier. Punk/Goldust was good. Really liked both men's attires.. thought that added a little extra to the match. The highlight of that bit of the show though was Punk and Hangman facing off. I've not been a fan of CM Punk's run for the most part outside of a bit of the MJF feud because it's felt like it hasn't been building to anything but I think an AEW title win would be neat. Hangman's reign has been lackluster imo and he hasn't felt like a focal point of the show so I think it makes sense to give it to a guy who is like CM Punk although I'd prefer a Daniel Bryan reign as champ. Speaking of Bryan, I think it's cool he's in a team with Moxley despite my preference for him to be a singles guy right now. I like the idea of the team too though it gets really cringey at times with the "omg violence" bit they do.. I also think the name sucks. The name Blackpool Combat Club is worse than any of those weird "Team ____" names WWE did for a while. I get the Regal reference but it just sounds so corny for these guys who are probably the two most legit wrestlers AEW has. Match was one-sided and meant for BCC to do their shtick but I feel for Dante Martin. He went from having a decent feud with Team Taz where it seemed like they were going to get behind him to a world title match to his brother and team returning to being stuck on the jobber side of a six man tag.
I didn't care at all to watch the Jungle Boy/Kyle O Reilly match.. I've been underwhelmed by the Jurassic Express title reign and a singles match between those two guys really doesn't interest me especially now where O'Reilly is just Adam Cole's dork tag team friend again. NJPW show is cool but I'd really only be interested in a handful of matches from it. Outside of Moxley, Punk, Bryan, and a few other guys there aren't many "must see" dudes on the roster for me and those guys are the few with star power that I've actually enough care to have dream matches for. I'm not paying $50 or whatever AEW charges for a PPV so I wouldn't be catching it live anyway but that's neither here nor there. I hope there are good Tanahashi and Okada matchups at least. Butcher and Wardlow is another one of those matches that I just can't find any reason to care for.. I have no interest in the Butcher and the whole MJF paying guys to wrestle his rival trope is getting old for me. Hook is fine. Danhausen is still awful. Genuinely one of the worst gimmicks I've seen in my time watching. It's up there with that Alexa Bliss doll gimmick from last year in how crapty it is. This Sammy/Tay and Men of the Year storyline needs to end. Sammy and Tay are awful but I'm glad they at least smartened up to lean into being heel. This whole angle feels like no one knows what they're doing. Scorpio shouldn't have won the TNT title in the first place, then Sammy shouldn't have beaten him for it, and now the story just keeps going... These guys getting so much time is one of the reasons I stopped watching AEW live on a regular basis. Men of the Year are still so lame to me.. It makes me miss the North because at least with that team Josh Alexander is a badass. (He's doing great as a singles guy though there's no need for any reunion..) Britt Baker came back and buried the women's division. She's right about it lol but that's definitely not a good thing to say on TV about the company. Main event was my most anticipated match going into the show. I like Darby's coffin matches and I've been hopeful for Andrade to get on track and do something of note.. Good match. It was fun and did what it was supposed to do. I hope this is the end to any sort of association between Darby and Andrade because I feel like this has been going on for ages.. I don't know if Andrade should have won, but it's getting to a point where I feel he just needs to go reunite with Charlotte. He came in got stuck in a mediocre Cody feud before transitioning to the HFO silliness and being burdened with that awful faction and I don't know where he goes from here to be honest. Still thought the match was really cool and I love the Darby gimmick matches.
The Darby thing reminds me about the four pillars stuff... I really think that thing needs to be updated. Darby and MJF are definitely worthy of such adulation but I don't see it for Jungle Boy and Sammy. Sammy is consistently awful and Jungle Boy has really lost my interest as a singles guy. I think JE can be a decent team in the future but with the caliber of some of the teams in AEW right now like Santana & Ortiz and FTR, there's just no need for the titles to be on these guys and I just feel like they've kind of been surpassed (although in regards to FTR and P&P those teams were incredible before even stepping foot into AEW). Darby and MJF are the real MVPs of the "pillars" and I feel like Darby should be treated as such and move into the more featured role that a guy like Sammy has.
