Just never worked for me. Even as a kid who was totally brainwashed by wrestling at the time and loved the Wolfpac, Sting just didn't fit. The turn from the dark, brooding "Crow" character happened way too fast. It was really weird watching Sting so happy and smiley every week after he had spent the last year and a half portraying a silent vigilante who showed zero emotion.
The total 180° killed that character.

Cool visual but made no sense what so ever considering Nash cost him the world title weeks before he joined up with him.

Like crow, I wasnt a fan of Wolfpac Sting. He was always pro WCW so to see em in the NWO camp just never made sense to me. Especially after the whole feud he had with the black and white for over a year. Plus that goatee look...jeeze

Well I think one of the reasons for him to do it was for more wrestling figures to be released. The red face Sting figure would be new and kids would buy it up.
But I wouldn't have cared that much if the NWO Wolfpac had remained a thing for a long time. To see Sting and even Lex Luger join the Wolfpac seemed odd since they were the two who were fighting off the NWO for two and a half years.
The Luger one was even more mind boggling being even after the Wolfpac had split and Nash went back to Hogan's NWO Hollywood camp, Luger still felt the need to join that group too. Instead of once again, being the face to try to win back the WCW World Title off Hogan.
It showed how bad the WCW side was at Fall Brawl 98 when your WCW team is DDP, a part timer like Roddy Piper and a guy who came in to put over Hogan in a month with the Warrior.

If the original concept/crew of the Wolfpac had remained true? Then yeah Sting joining would have been ok with me but NOT joining the nWo. Its validating for me to hear Bischoff describe it as a big mistake too I have to say.
Also good shout about Luger. Bad enough he joins guys hes been feduing with for 2 years solid but then he stays with Hogan too when the grand plan is revealed...Konnan gets booted but Luger stays? Pure nonsense...

Even as an 18 year old that was completely enveloped in WWF & WCW I groaned & eye rolled at Luger & Sting joining.

Made no sense at all but in today's world people forget how big the Wolfpack was

Made no sense at all but in today's world people forget how big the Wolfpack was No doubt the Wolfpack was huge in 1998, and you can still find people wearing the red and black nWo shirt today. I’d say at one point they maybe were the most popular faction in the wrestling world as it seemed like I was seeing Wolfpack merch more so than nWo and DX merch. The biggest problem for me was the fact they were still associated with the nWo. Remove the nWo connection, and I’m fine with Luger joining. However, no matter what, it made no sense what so ever for Sting to join any faction with even a hint of connections to the nWo. Nash cost Sting the belt a few months earlier, yet was now playing Nash’s lackey.

The Wolfpac was over and this was one of the more distinct looks in his career. But Sting has said he was battling demons at this time in his life and probably doesnt have too many positive things to say about it.

which was the original plan... Nash, Hall, Konnan, Hennig & Bagwell. Bischoff okd it then changed his mind and kept the nWo connection. Genuine backstage problems between Hogan & Nash made the personnel an issue then too with Konnan being the only guy to stay Wolfpac. Also hell yeah the Wolfpac was over like rover....crazy popular. I have 2 red/black nWo shirts myself

Man you guys have said exactly what I was thinking. I've just finished all Nitros from 1997 and 1998, and just onto Jan 11th 1999 now.
And although I think the visual of Wolfpac Sting is cool AF, from a storyline perspective - makes 0% sense.
I HATED how he's dropped the anti-NWO (in general) sentiment and became a smiling, fun-loving babyface again. After being the crow Sting, just a massive juxtaposition to his character's mystique.
I also said the NWO Wolfpac should just have been the Wolfpac, no NWO. Just the red shirt with the wolf on the front.
Should have had a war over the NWO name and Hollywood/Black & White came out on top, forcing the Wolfpac to remove the NWO name.
But Hogan and co did their best to make the Wolfpac look secondary to the Black & White, not letting them get the upper hand. So that included keeping Hall, Buff, occasionally not having Wolfpac members come out to stop beat downs, MINIMAL confrontations/matches....
Hogan just made them look like the loner group at the high school who were having fun and Black/White were the "cool kids" sitting at the back of the bus....

Even Bischoff has admitted on 83 Weeks the real life strain between Hogan & Nash made this storyline difficult to manage as it was "art imitating life" & not in a good way that benefitted folks

I get there's professionalism and doing what's "best for business/money", and regardless of whether it made sense or not from a storyline perspective (there are pros and cons for this, mostly cons) - from a personal POV, Nash began to play nice with Hogan even backstage due to this, and Konnan has gone on record in shoots saying Kev became a total Hogan stooge again after all the months of being anti-Hogan backstage.... Basically Nash and Hogan kissed and made up despite being at each others' throats for months, which made Kev look like he bowed down to Hogan yet again....

There's a great promo where Nash shot on Hogan for his sunglasses he was wearing and Hogan tried to shoot back but nash basically deflected it into a joke
here it is

Hogan could not match him on the mic

I love crow Sting, to this day absolutely love that era of Sting. I was ready in ‘98 to have some semblance of the old Stinger back & this was a nice middle ground. I loved the Wolfpack & that old Toybiz WCW figure line has immortalized this look for Sting for me.
The new Mattel Wolfpack Sting is my literal favorite figure from Mattel lol

Wolfpac Sting is the first version of him I ever saw so that look and persona will always be nostalgic to me.
