As you know The Rockers defeated The Hart Foundation on Oct 30, 1990 t win the tag titles and defended them against Power and Glory on Nov 3rd, but due to the top rope breaking WWF decided the match didn't happen and The Hart Foundation retained the titles until they lost them to The Nasty Boys at Wrestlemania
If The Rockers had kept the titles do you think they hold on to them until Wrestlemania? Who do you think they all would have defended the titles against?
Would it possibly have delayed The Rockers split up that happened in Dec 91?

I wouldn't have minded the Rockers as champions, they were really good and always put on good-to-great matches. The only problem I have with them winning in October, the Hart Foundation's run would have been too short. If the Rockers did win, I could imagine they would have followed what the Hart Foundation did. Though, I would have had them defend the titles against the Orient Express at RR91 - that way we still get that great match. Then I would have had them lose the titles to either the Nasty Boys or Power and Glory at WM7 - who would then go on to lose them to LOD at SSL91. Another option could be to have them defend the belts, and lose them to Power and Glory at RR91, then Power and Glory go on to lose the titles to LOD at WM7. Either way, I would have kept the split at the end of the year, beginning of 1992 like they did, with them failing to regain the titles from LOD in January that would be the cause of their split.

Yeah that'd be my only gripe as well. They needed a good run following that all timer at SSlam. I'd say have em hold on to em till Mania with them losing it to P&G. Harts can face the Nasties still and LOD can face the Express.

Harts can face the Nasties still and LOD can face the Express. That sounds good. I believe LOD was facing the Orient Express at House Shows during this time, they even had a handicap match with all three members of the Orient Express prior to WM7. I think the thing that hurt a lot of the teams at the time: Rockers, P&G, Rhythm and Blues, etc. was the acquisition of LOD. The minute Vince signed LOD the goal was to get the titles on them. But I think he wanted to build them up first before giving the titles. Obviously, Demolition dropping the belts to LOD would have made the most sense - the previous dominant tag team losing to the new/future dominant tag team. Why he threw away Demolition so quickly made zero sense. I like Ax's idea best. In one of his shoot interviews, he said he wanted Demolition to drop the belts to LOD after a long build, like at WM7. Keep the two teams away from each other, let Demolition have a long title run so they look dominant, and keep them face for most of the run. And at the same time, build LOD up as a very dominant tag team, then just before WM7 have the two teams meet up for the first time to build toward a big match at WM7. Here they could turn Demolition heel, so when LOD goes over them, they should get a build pop from the crowd. Then they could slowly remove Demolition from the main event picture (mainly because Ax was looking to wind down his in-ring run, and work backstage as an agent). I also read a long time ago that the reason for the quick switch from the Hart Foundation to the Rockers was because Anvil's contract was coming up, and he was having issues as well, because of this they needed to get the belts off of the Harts before then. They didn't want LOD taking the titles at a smaller show, so they went with the Rockers to win and hold the belts until it was time to give the belts to LOD. Then everything went wrong, for the Rockers at least. The rope breaks in the middle of the match and Anvil resigns with the company. Then Vince decides he doesn't want to air the match between the Rockers and Hart Foundation, nullifying the Rockers win. So, they just give the belts back to the Harts to finish their run. Sadly, the Rockers never got another chance to be the champions. If only LOD had arrived in the summer of 1991 - instead of the summer of 1990, the Rockers then could have had a proper run with the belts. If that were the case, I would have kept the belts on the Hart Foundation like they did, having them lose the belts to the Nasty Boys at WM7. The Rockers would then be the next babyface team, winning the belts from the Nasty Boys at SSL91. With LOD coming in at that time, they could start building up the Natural Disasters as the next dominant heel monster team. Have the Rockers hold the tag titles from SSL91 all the way to WM8, then lose the title to the Natural Disasters. Now its LOD's turn, LOD and the Natural Disasters start feuding, with LOD winning the belts at SSL92 at Wembley. Now LOD can have their dominant run. Granted, this would all hinge on Hawk being able to work in 1992.

I believe the reason all this went down was Bret Hart wasn't happy with what he was making in the WWF at the time, and he was opting to leave to go to WCW. So Vince put the belts on the Rockers. Bret decided to stay with the WWF, and with the ropes breaking, Vince decided to throw the belts back on the Hart Foundation since nobody seen the match except for those live.

The only time Bret said that he looked into going to WCW, outside of 1996/1997 when they offered him huge contracts, was back in 1991/92 when he was the IC champion - but nothing materialized from it.

The Rockers were my favorite team as a kid and as much as I would have loved for them to have been tag team champions. However, I just do not see any time where it would have made sense or the tag team situation any better if I am being honest. I think the period that they would have most likely have won the belts would have interfered with Demolition, The Hart Foundation and The Nasty Boys which led to the LOD. I just do not see a time where it would have made sense, unless it was a short reign that would not have had any type of big PPV match.

If they stayed a team into 1992, A feud with Money Inc for the belts wouldve been great

Yeah, unfortunately there wasn't a lot of spaces they could have been champions. One thing they could have done was give them the belts at RR91, then have them lose to the Nasty Boys at WM7. Since they were already looking to put Bret as a singles wrestler, they could have had the Rockers and Hart Foundation face off at Royal Rumble 1991 (as the rematch from when the rope broke) and have the Rockers win. Then they could have broken up the Hart Foundation, at WrestleMania 7 have Bret face either Haku or Barbarian to build him up for a singles run. Jim could start his repackaging, facing the other wrestler that Bret doesn't face at WM7. And the Rockers could face the Nasty Boys, losing the titles to them. At least they would have gotten a 3 month reign. They also could have had a few televised title defenses in this time versus the Orient Express and Demolition. If they stayed a team into 1992, A feud with Money Inc for the belts wouldve been great This probably would have been the best option. Had the WWF known they were going to lose LOD for most of 1992, they might not have broken up the Rockers in early January. The babyface side of the tag team roster was really thin in 1992, they had to turn two heel teams (Nasty Boys and Natural Disasters - who were both better as heels) to even out the odds. I definitely could have seen them getting the tag titles from Money Inc. in there somewhere, maybe in the summer like the Natural Disasters got. A feud with Money Inc. would have been really good. Then, once the WWF signed the Steiner Brothers, they could break up the Rockers in late 1992/early 1993. Part of the breakup could have involved Shawn winning the IC title from Davey Boy, though that could have happened a little later than it did, closer to the Survivor Series instead of just after Summer Slam.

I wish I could tell you where I heard it from now, but I can definitely say it was around 2004 - 2006 era.

The WWF did have a SNME in early January before the Royal Rumble, they could have had the Hart/Rocker match there. Then the Rockers could have their first title defense against the Orient Express at the Royal Rumble. Then they could keep Bret and Anvil in the rumble match. This is where they could have pushed Bret, let him go a long way in the Rumble match at #1, like DiBiase did the prior year. Maybe let Mr. Perfect eliminate him at #23, kind of a pre-cursor to their feud in the summer.

In his book he mentions talking to them in September 89. And to the OP, the Harts defended the titles on Nov 3. I know itโs listed as the Rockers also defending them in another town but Iโm pretty sure thatโs false. The match was taped to air on TV after Survivor Series so the Harts would have kept the belts until the match aired, and since it never aired they never actually gave up the belts.
