I've been watching a lot of mid 1998 RAW lately and came across a match that immediately caught my attention.
The night after Ken Shamrock won the 1998 King of the Ring, previous winners Owen Hart and Triple H challenged Ken, saying that they were the true King of the Ring. A match was set up for later in the night where the winner would become the "King of Kings"
Having not seen this episode before, I thought, "wow! there's actually a backstory to Triple H's nickname!"
And then Ken Shamrock won..
Did they ever do anything with this or did it end up being a forgotten coincidence?

It was forgotten. They just used it as a vehicle to get the Shamrock/Owen feud going that Summer

I wanna say Shamrock defeated Triple H, Owen, and Mabel in a few weeks to be the ultimate King of the Ring winner. Only wrestler that could not compete was Bret since he was in WCW then.

Well no way would they put Shamrock over Austin at this time with Austin being the WWF Champion for the 2nd time. But a few months later we did get Austin vs. Shamrock for the WWF Title when Shamrock started his heel turn.
