I know this might fall under "source: trust me, bro"...but ALL of this, is unequivocally false. 100% made up by Billi Bhatti. Everything, from the units produced, to the falsehood that the line is being paid for by AEW (that's simply not how it works)...to even the sales. I don't need to have inside information to tell you to think about the fact that they JUST introduced a new SKU in the Supreme line...and no toy company in their right mind would do that for a failing toyline. Disregard this entire story for what it is: completely fabricated baloney. Source: trust me, bro. But seriously--trust me. The line is doing great. The paying for the figures might be true. As has previously been said it’s a great way of advertising. I can speak from personal experience seeing luchasaurus on pegs was what got my son into watching dynamite. Plus there’s no track history yet for AEW, their viewership points to an older audience so figures for them is somewhat of an unknown. They might have signed a sweeter deal to get on the pegs, should they be successful they can then negotiate a better deal moving forward. Jazzwares has huge brands: Pokemon, fortnight, marvel spidey, nerf, roblox, halo etc. They can afford to speculate and take a hit on a line like this with the cash they will get from those other huge lines Yeah, "paying for the license" might not be the most accurate terminology. But I'd be very surprised if the contract was structured the same way as Star Wars, Marvel, WWE, etc. It's just a different way to slice the pie, and probably puts more of the up front risk on the licensor with more profit sharing going to them on the back end. When the line launched, they had very few names who were proven from a retail standpoint. If you're Jazwares, that's a pretty big gamble to invest probably a million+ in tooling, design, marketing, etc on a completely unproven brand. In an alternate universe, the AEW line could just as easily be in the same spot as the UFC line if the product didn't take off the way it did. And the 15k production number would match up for Wave 1A (possibly 2 and 3?). There are around 4,700 Walmarts in the US. It seemed like mostly Super Walmarts got the shippers, so maybe 3,500 stores? I think there were 3-4 copies of most guys, with Kenny being double packed. Add in chases and some for RSC and that's pretty much right at 15,000. I know the tendency is to jump on this as being totally fake or a sign of impending doom, depending on your brand affiliation. But I just don't see this being anything huge one way or the other. It's probably a half truth and some outdated info, but nothing that seems wildly off base, imo. AEW is doing very well overall, and the line seems to be doing well with solid retail support. |

I think on here because wrestling figures is likely our number 1 or 2 figure collections we don’t really always see the big picture AEW figs are probably around 5th or 6th biggest lines for jazwares? Pokemon, fortnight, spidey, roblox, nerf will all be way higher Likewise mattel will put the big brand toys which they own and do t have to give their licensor a slice of the pie above wwe. I don’t know but I’d speculate they make a lot more on barbie and hot wheels compared to wwe. Motu isn’t what it once was but is likely on par with wwe Jax wares will likely take the hit initially on aew to get more in the long run |

One of the guys from Mattel posted here the minimum amount for a regular retail figure was around 25K. If they go lower, then the factory charges more for production. This was posted around the end of the first Legends run and I've heard/read a similar number in interviews. The 30K doesn't sound that low to me. How many MLs get produced and the MCU is way bigger than AEW.

I should also note that Jazwares was NOT the only company going after AEW. Super7 desperately wanted the license, and there's even an interview out there with Brian Flynn of Super7 saying just that, either SDCC 2019, or Toy Fair 2020.
...to shoot down this whole "paid for the license" narrative.

It's not how this deal was worked. It's not how this deal is structured now. Not then, not now, not ever. You seem to forget how much buzz AEW generated back in 2019. No different than an unproven movie license, Jazwares took a chance on an unproven wrestling league, and it has paid dividends. The line is doing fantastic. The line has legs for years to come. Anything else is ridiculous noise and frankly, untrue. Period. This isn't up for debate. Again, source: trust me, bro. But seriously, stop spreading this absurdity. None of your postulating is in anynway, shape, or form correct. Unless you have seen the contract or heard from them directly how can you say it’s 100% not true. Even if the line was in trouble which I don’t believe it is. One figure isn’t going to magically change it’s fortunes CM Punk or not. And if the line was “in trouble” doubling or tripling the units of one figure would just add to the issue because they wouldn’t move half of those extra units.
The line suffering from the same issues as every other line over the last couple years which is distribution issues caused by the pandemic.

On WO board there is a grab of a podcast from journalist Billi Bhati (not always mega reliable so take this with a pinch of salt) who among other AEW news broke down the contract and sales for their figure line. - Claims AEW profit share with Jazwres, and that paid Jazwres to produce the figures not the other way round. - That a main figure in each set gets 30,000 made, and 15,000 for less popular wrestlers. - That it's a massive money loser, and they are banking on the upcoming CM Punk figure to turn fortunes around - they are set to make 75,000 of him the most they've made of one person. Just been listening to what hes said on Konnans podcast. Was interesting about the other big wrestling line too. |

I have no idea if the AEW line is in “trouble” or if they’re “counting on Punk” but mathematically the numbers he gave don’t really make any sense.

I think it was when Jeremy was on AEW Restricted Podcast or whatever but I vividly remember that he said Jazwares went heavily after AEW because they saw the potential, not the other way around.
To that end, I've also never ever heard of a franchise upfronting the cost for a toy line. Maybe it happens, but cite some examples because I've got nothing. Certainly nothing like AEW.
30k / 15k is easily proven false as all cases typically have equal distribution (first set and unmatched 3 notwithstanding).
Even Series 1 has to have a different distribution than 30/15, because the Walmart cases were stripped of Brandi and doubled up on Kenny, meanwhile RSC had very very limited numbers on Brandi... so at best it would be like 30k Kenny, 5k Brandi 10k everyone else? Naw, I think 45k even for the first run is unbelievably lowball for a number.
Lastly, and this is pure on sight conjecture, but I don't think they're selling poorly. The first like 3 sets were IMPOSSIBLE to find unless you were lucky or were hunting like a fiend. Even after they upped production and the product started flooding the market with Unmatched 1 and Series 4 onward they did not rot on shelves locally for long. Even when all that was left was tons of Frankie or FTR Bald (God what an awful awful fig) they were inevitable sold. Honestly only places I know locally where they rot is Gamestop and even then, they're marked up to $25.
