I am quite the opposite in the fact that I remember loving matches when I saw them as a kid, and now I rewatch them and they actually suck. Iโm exactly the same, case in point I loved Kronik/Undertaker & Kane from Unforgiven 2001 as a kid. The match absolutely sucks!

Every Chris Benoit match I saw when I was young, I thought was the most boring thing I had ever seen in my life.

I disliked most WWF matches as a kid, as everything about the product was cartoonish. Cutting my teeth on NWA, GCW, and early WCW, southern style rasslinโ was just too ingrained for me to enjoy the kiddie product up north. Other than Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart, WWF was just straight up garbage to me. Even though I watched it regularly, I just never could get into it, or the matches.
I mean, come on, watch Vader power bomb Cactus Jack on the cement, or watch Hulk Hogan hulk up for 15 billionth time? It was an easy choice.
The only time the WWF put out a product I actually consistently enjoyed was during the Attitude Era.
The only point I can remember loathing matches in WCW was the Vince Russo era, where the whole company went down the toilet, never to recover.

JCP/NWA/WCW, WWF, AWA, WCCW, GWF, USWA, SMW, ECW, AWF, TMW, TNA
I dont care what the letters are. I love pro wrestling & always have. No way could I tell you if a match was boring or I didnt like it because there was something on the card that I loved and that was more important.

When I was a kid in the early 90s my dad use to try to keep me up late to watch WCW which always took me right out because I had zero interest in the promotion. Vader was the selling point that my dad tried to convince me to watch but he would always appear later in the show which by then I was in dream heaven. I was naive at the time because I was tainted by WWFs over the top wrestlers and wouldn't give the more pro wrestling style WCW a fair chance.

Hmmโฆ I think a lot of the matches in the last few years that have ended up with roll ups pins were bad. There are some wrestlers that I never cared for. Some that come to mind are Cena, Theory, Finn Balor, Corbin, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Randy Orton (in the last few years). I wonโt lie though, Cena is entertaining on the mic. In terms of specific matches I never watched Sting vs Hogan at Starrcade โ97 until like ten years ago. Iโve tried to like that match every single time and TRUST ME, Iโm biased because Sting is my favorite wrestler of all time. That match was absolute garbage minus the entrances and post match celebration. The first few times I had no idea what was going on, then I had no clue how Sting lost or what the controversy was. It took me nearly 10 years to understand it.

Nah, I really got into wrestling during the Golden Era, and I absolutely ate up whatever they put on TV. It didn't matter if it was Hulk VS. Savage, or Hillbilly Jim VS. Horowitz, I loved it all. The term "bad wrestling" wouldn't have registered with me at the time.

Goldberg v. Lesnar WMXX.
I was at the event. I was in 7th grade. I hated this match.

I think it's when you get to an age where the suspension of disbelief is impossible and you're looking at it as a performance. It's a bit like with films - as an adult you never lose yourself in the story or characters of a film because you're looking at whether or not the performances are good, the score, the cinematography, what decisions you would have made differently etc. It's the same with music and anything else we consume. Wrestling becomes just another media in your life, but as a kid you are absorbed by it and totally sucked in by the story, so you don't see the mechanics of it despite them being on full display.

Same here, I didn't start to look at wrestling critically until 2003, when I discovered message boards. I try to find a balance now...like, Bret Hart is undeniably a tremendous technical wrestler, and a lot of the guys in Japan, many others - I love all of that. But I still like Hogan/Andre in '87, which was technically and athletically a dud. I even like some bad matches that didn't draw 1% of what Hogan/Andre did. It's all about having fun and enjoying what you enjoy.

I think the breaking of kayfabe also had a huge factor in this as well. Prior to that, you didn't look at matches for the quality, you looked at them as actual contests with the better man/woman winning.

Bret bored the piss out of me as a kid. Honestly, most of the technical guys did.

I've always wondered whether the match would have gone over better had the fans not absolutely crapped on both competitors from the start of the night. This should have been white hot. Right below the Austin/Goldberg dream match every kid wanted between the two baddest baldest dudes on the planet at the time (sorry Bruce Willis)

As a kid, I didnโt think any matches were bad. I may have not liked who won but thatโs not an indictment on the match itself.
Now if we were to reverse it and mention matches that we liked younger but not now, then there would be a few.
