I remember reading about the orange card series such a long time ago before things started to be found in terms of sketches, the heads, etc., but I can’t remember how I originally heard about it - given how much of it has turned-out to be accurate by the evidence that has since emerged I’d be really interested in finding-out when the first rumours appeared, and where?
I think Owen was originally rumoured to be in the orange card set but that was dismissed quite early, and I think Bastian Booger was a bit of a late addition to the rumour-mill - though maybe I just dismissed him as a candidate thinking Hasbro wouldn’t invest in a figure of him, I don’t remember. But the line-up feels pretty much spot-on from the time I first heard about the set.
Shortly afterwards I remember talk about a 13th series being pencilled-in on black cards with a face Diesel, King of Harts Owen and Bob Holly, but I don’t think anything has appeared to support that? Seems like something that could’ve been invented by a WUM, but that suggestion of a second Diesel in the next set right after he first gets a figure always interested me - if you’re inventing a line-up then I don’t think you’d repeat such a big figure in the next set, but I can totally see Hasbro wanting to hammer-out the Diesel figures given the push he was getting - the three Hogans, Warriors and Savages in the first sets might be a precedent there. So maybe there was something in those rumours as well?
Probably impossible to say for sure, but an KOH Owen would surely have been priority for a series released in 1995 after the orange cards. Holly was also a strong candidate for that set. A new Shawn maybe a year too early? He had been in series 10 (twice) and I’m not sure if his 1994 post-WrestleMania was really that strong to force out a new figure out in the 13th series; they’d probably keep him for the next set in 1996 to space the stars out a bit. That would work for him winning the Rumble in 1995, along with the new Bulldog in shorts if his post-SummerSlam return hadn’t already been prioritised by then. I think they’d invest in a different action for both Shawn and Davey - maybe the punch design would finally be used for HBK?
But I think a new Bret would be a priority by series 13 - he was last released in series 8 and was obviously the top guy then. My struggle is if they’d do a repaint or a new action - my love of Bret and his Hasbro from my childhood pretty much blinds me from seeing a better action for him; a clothesline or suplex maybe, though the latter action would for me have to be a new body from the Mr Perfect one to fit Bret.
Taker was also due a new release for the same reason as Bret - a late 95 set would work for the purple gloves and a new head, maybe using the same basic body? I could see that, though a black series with Diesel, Owen, Bret and Taker as well as two or three additional lower-card guys like Holly might be a little too heavy for star power?
But on the other hand Hasbro might want to hit the new licence period with that kind of fire - a single series like that would be very tough to beat in the history of the line:

Damn -- I hate seeing those drawings again. Little kid me wanted the Orange Cards SO badly. As a kid in the UK, I barely even knew that the red cards existed 😄
LOL -- you make me feel less deprived, and I just feel bad for you. Although now you can get the Red Cards and the others, and none of us can get the Orange Cards  |

I used to read the forums a lot, couldn't tell you when, but mid 2000'ish, towards the 2010's, possibly, and I then joined the Hasbro groups. Like you, I remember all the talk of additional series' but a lot seemed like talk, while some stuff turned out to be true. The new striped Doink was a more recent discovery for me, which was excellent, as I was such a huge fan as a kid. It's always interesting what you can find out, whether true or false, and it's always teasing to know that we may never truly know some things. You have to believe that before losing the license, some guys at Hasbro were discussing future lines. I wonder what that included, surely some of the names you mentioned. |

LOL -- you make me feel less deprived, and I just feel bad for you. Although now you can get the Red Cards and the others, and none of us can get the Orange Cards Glad I could do that for ya! 😄 Honestly, as a kid, I only knew what was available due to what I saw around me from other kids or what I had. It was great in a way, as I could believe that all kinds of figures were out there. Internet has taken a lot of that magic away, but it's also provided me with the amazing finds that we've all spoken about for a long time in the wrestling figure world. As you say, being an "adult" now, I can treat my inner child with the stuff I always wanted, but I probably do that a little too much! It's great to think that all this time later, you could be seeing some of those orange cards reimagined. |

They aren’t perfect but I’m very happy with them and love having them on display. @Chair.Shot would you be willing to share a ballpark price you paid? I imagine it was a lot... It was probably more than anyone else. At the time, I didn’t think he would be mass producing these. He was putting them up on eBay one at a time and I was having to fight others to get them. Matt Cardona also educated me on something that I was mistaken about regarding these (but in typical fashion he was rude when doing it). Originally I thought the guy making these had been given/loaned/purchased the original heads and made copies. This is not the case and I could not seem to find where on here I had read that. I checked and saw the differences. No point in having an ego: if you’re wrong then you are wrong…and I was definitely wrong! Still doesn’t excuse the dickishness but I digress. Point of the story is I paid more because I thought I was getting as close to an exact copy as possible as opposed to one that was made using modeling software. Fortunately or unfortunately depending upon how you look at it, they were probably in the 1k ballpark. Each figure seemed to go for around 200 at that time (give or take). This was before I bought my house and was in a weird state mentally so I was buying stuff simply without taking other things into consideration. That wasn’t normal behavior for me and I ended up with a lot of stuff that later had me question wtf I was doing lol. Even though I paid more than I should have for these figures, they are probably one of the last things I would sell or get rid of just because of what they represent to me: that dream of finding new Hasbros and also the reminder that we can find new and exciting things from the past at any time. The fact that we have all of this proof of an unreleased Hasbro series blows my mind to this day and I find myself stopping and looking at anything related to the orange card series every time I see something pop up. |

I don't know about currently, but back when I was on the socials, his stuff was some of the very best of the best that I'd seen. I'm not sure that the prices reflected what they were, but he was genuinely talented. |

I think the next Bret would have had a molded entrance jacket. I could also see a Shawn in molded entrance gear having come sooner rather than later. I see what you're saying about his post-Mania 94, but WWF was clearly grooming him for a massive push in 1995 so I could see him still being in plans. |

I wonder if by late '95 to early '96, if Hasbro still had the license with WWF, whether they'd still be going with the traditional Hasbro WWF look or whether they'd look to refresh the line altogether.
Around 1996 there was a sort of resurgence of the GI Joe style figure for cheap toy runs of popular gaming brands like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, and given that Hasbro had the GI Joe license, I wonder if they'd have done a few short runs of WWF figures in that style, as they were more articulated, smaller in size and cheap to produce, given how popular GI Joe was for Hasbro, I could totally see them trying something like that and seeing how it worked out.
LJN and Galoob had both looked to change things up after a few runs of their initial wrestling lines, it only seems logical that Hasbro would be thinking of doing the same in order to keep the line fresh and exciting.
Maybe a line of bigger, more articulated figures were in the pipeline somewhere. I'd be surprised if they intended to keep pushing the classic Hasbro WWF figure into 1996 and potentially beyond, if they had any desire to keep the WWF license at all.
