The fact that 1992 was 30 years ago legit makes me feel old as hell, this was my last year or primary school before heading to high school in the summer of 1993!
Anyway, this was also the last year we had the "big four" and also one of the most interesting roster years in the WWF when you look at who they had in the first part of the year with the likes of Hogan, Warrior, LOD, Sid and Bulldog who were all gone by Survivor Series!
I thought it would be fun to pick our favorite four matches that took place at the PPVs from 1992.
Bret Hart vs Roddy Piper: WrestleMania VIII: What a fun match this is, from the interview before it to the hug at the very end. The majority of people love this match, but it is one that I feel often gets overlooked when people talk about the best WrestleMania matches of all time. Both guys looked great in this match and it was another step in the right direction for Bret Hart. Also, the Brain on commentary here was pure gold!
Randy Savage vs Ric Flair: WrestleMania VIII: I was all in on this story when it was going down and this is my favorite Ric Flair match from his 1991-1993 run in the WWF. This was such a fun match and really when you think about it Savage was involved in huge storylines/matches all the way from WrestleMania III to here! It was awesome seeing Randy Savage be more vicious in this match. One of the things I always remember is that after the match when Randy Savage and Elizabeth are doing the interview backstage and Randy is all amped up, each time he turns around, it is like Elizabeth jumps out of her skin.
Ultimate Warrior vs Randy Savage: SummerSlam: While it is nowhere near as good as the match the two of them had the year prior at WrestleMania, this is still an excellent match. These guys were always gold together and I was cheering like a maniac wanting the Warrior to win the title. I think adding Perfect and Flair to the mix was a good way to get them both on the show too and right up to the start, I was not sure whose corner, Mr. Perfect was going to be in. The way the match ends is not great, but I guess it makes sense as it did not make either guy look weak and it set up The Ultimate Maniacs!
Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels: Survivor Series: I would watch this match ten times over before watching their Iron Man match. Back in this era, Bret and Shawn were just focused on stealing the show and putting on an epic match rather than worrying about their egos as they were in the Iron Man match. This is such a fun match and it being champion vs champion was a lot of fun. I love the way Bret puts Shawn in the sharpshooter in this match. While you never felt that Bret was in any real danger of losing the WWF title, it was still a very fun match.
Those are my pics, if it was not just PPV matches, then I have to say the tag team match between The Nasty Boys and The Ultimate Warrior and Randy Savage would have been real close to making my list as I loved that match as a kid!
