So what was Vince's obsession with British Bulldog vs. Warlord in 1991??
Bulldog beats Warlord at Wrestlemania VII
Then Bulldog, Dragon and Tornado beat Warlord, and Power & Glory at SummerSlam
Survivor Series, Bulldog was on team Piper, Warlord was on team Flair
Tuesday in Texas, we get Bulldog vs. Warlord again in a one on one match with Bulldog winning.
Vince seemed to just love seeing these two scrap it up on PPV with each other.
To be fair though, the matches were always good for them both being muscle men and Warlord not being the technical wrestler for moves.

Really there was probably not much more for them to do. Warlord hit his ceiling, he couldn't do good promos and he wasn't a great wrestler. Bulldog had a more of an upper mid card way about him so it made Warlord look good and since he was such a big guy, made Bulldog look great for beating him. It actually kind of surprises me Bulldog got the Summerslam 1992 main event spot given his 1991, early 1992 was pretty lackluster. But I know the UK connection was what did it.
Like most WWF feuds of the late 80s, early 90s, there was a house show feud with Bulldog and Mr. Perfect in early to mid 1991 but it never made it to PPV. Bossman and Bret were much more over than him.
I also think Warlord went as far as he could go in WWF. I can't imagine him doing much more if he had stuck around in 1992.

Good big man matches between these too and I always enjoyed them. Side story for you too I met warlord at wrestlecon at mania 33 and talked to him for ages. He said how much he missed davey and enjoyed his run with him back then. Apparently they were good friends so he got to train with him in the gym then work on the road and ppvs with him and it was one of his favourite times.

It was rumored that Warlord was supposed to have a run with Hulk Hogan during this time (Barbarian was supposed to have a run with Warrior as well), but nothing came of it. Not sure if they lost faith in Warlord, or the Sarge angle just became the only thing they wanted to do. I could definitely see Warlord facing Hogan at a SNME in 1991, though.

I've seen a few of Warlord's shoot interviews, he seems like a real nice guy.

I liked the continuity of it. Cant really think of a more suitable opponent for either in the time frame.
I always thought it was cool that they were the only 2 to be pinned in the opener at Survivor Series 91.

Caught me off guard too as wasn't expecting it. Always liked his look and would have been fine with warlord v warrior or hogan at a S.N.M.E show but always a fan of the powers of pain. Think davey was definitely the perfect match up with warlord at that point

Both he and Barbarian are very nice. They were still doing events together pre-covid, not sure if still. I'm sure both being good guys really got along well together. It's a shame they didn't get a good singles run and even though Warlord was losing a lot, Barbarian got the even shorter end of the stick. But Quake and Slaughter were the larger than life characters and performers WWF needed.

By late-1991 Bulldog was more over than Hogan. If he'd been clean I think he legitimately could have been a champ around this time.
The crowd was really behind Bulldog in the 92 Rumble too.

I’ve told this story before, but in early 91 after seeing a live WWF house show where Davey and Warlord faced each other, my dad took me to Dennys. Sitting at a long table that stretched from the back of the dining room to nearly the front windows was the 2 of them sitting together eating. Warlord at the head of the table, Davey directly to his left. There were a couple of referees and crew and I remember a young Shane Douglas there but mostly it was just Warlord and Davey eating. The table was FULL of food. Like they had ordered one of everything on the menu. I’m not kidding. The thing that stuck out the most over all the years of that memory is the amount of food on that table. Dad tells me to get autographs. I walk over and Warlord gruffly says “Not while we’re eating.” Davey doesn’t look up. So we eat and wait and wait, Boss Man showed up at one point and he stopped and talked to us. He talked to Warlord and Davey for a few minutes and I heard him mention Curt but Perfect never walked in. Dad finally says we have to leave and to get the autographs. So I go back and ask again, telling them that I have to leave. They sign and we leave. Davey never once looked up from his food when I walked to the table. I guess he knew they were busted breaking kayfabe and that’s all he could do.
I told this story to Warlord at WrestleCon earlier this year. He smiled about it and just mentioned how they had to eat so much on the road after working to keep their size up.
