What if in August 1999, instead of naming their new #2 show after a Rock catchphrase, WWF had gone with some other catchphrase for the UPN program? WWF Smokin' Skull, only on Thursday nights! WWF Stompin' a Mudhole. WWF That Damn Good. WWF Rest In Peace. And 23 years later the show would still have that name. WWF 3:16, Thursdays on UPN! But seriously, do you think any other catchphrases could have worked for the new show, or that Smackdown! was really the only way they could have gone?

WWF Slobberknocker!
It’s difficult to say as smackdown is so ingrained now. The WWF was such a hot property at the time I think anything would have caught on. But for longevity, Smackdown seems the most appropriate choice.

What’s truly amazing is that word is officially in the dictionary now. According to Rock he didn’t actually come up with it, Harvey Wippleman coined it.

"Tune in this Thursday night to see the new WWF show debuting.... WWF Suck It!!"
Not all catchphrases from that era could work for a TV wrestling show Ha ha ha

Ive honestly always hated the name Smackdown. Not a huge fan of RAW. I thought WCW was much better with their names.

We're at that point where it's been around so long, you almost forget it's named after a catchphrase The Rock started. I think it's worked so well, but had it been named something else? No catchphrase at that time would really have made sense to the point it would still be named it 20+ years later in my opinion.
