I got the 30th anniversary SummerSlam Blu Ray a couple of weeks back and it really is fantastic. It led me to watching some episodes of Superstars that followed it and it brought me right back to being a kid and how excited I was for the shortlived Ultimate Maniacs team. I loved both guys and thought that they were a ton of fun, but how far could this team have actually gone?
Once the thing with Razor Ramon and Ric Flair was done, what would have been left? Would they have gone after the tag team titles, feuded with someone like Money Inc or even the Steiners. Would the Ultimate Maniacs have caused Vince to never even think about having Hogan and Beefcake as the Mega Maniacs at WrestleMania IX. No matter what, I do not think the Ultimate Maniacs would have lasted long with Warrior's ego at the time, but it is pretty interesting to think about how far this team could have gone.
I would love to hear how you guys think the Ultimat Maniacs could have played out in late 92 and in 93.

From what we know Bret vs. Warrior was scheduled for Royal Rumble and Bret vs. Macho was scheduled for Wrestlemania 9.
It's possible that they would have disbanded after the Survivor Series blowout. It's possible they'd have been tentatively kept together and ended up blowing out for another match in the Summer of 93?

I'm not sure really, I haven't heard too many people talk about the plans after the Survivor Series for the Ultimate Maniacs. I think the most logical route would have been a feud with Money Inc., they wouldn't need the tag titles, but they could have had a number of matches with them before Money Inc. started feuding with the Steiner Brothers. I always thought that the plan all along was for the Ultimate Maniacs to face Money Inc. at WM9, but when Warrior was fired, they brought in Hogan and Beefcake to take their place. I could see the Ultimate Maniacs playing the same role as the Mega Powers from the late 80s, being a tag team at times but also working singles matches. I know Bret says that he was told he was working with Warrior at the Royal Rumble, but I wonder if that was just Vince talking but nothing was actually official - kind of similar to the Bret/Hogan match at SSL93. Vince may have pitched the idea to Bret, but Hogan never agreed to it. Same thing could have happened here, Vince pitched the idea to both Bret and Warrior, but I don't see Warrior agreeing to lose to Bret by submission at RR93. I think by the time 1993 rolled around, Vince had already decided to go with the younger guys (Bret, HBK, Taker, Steiners, Razor, Luger, etc.), and he had already decided to keep Macho in the booth. If Warrior stayed, I could see him being used mainly as an attraction rather than a title contender. I could see Warrior working with a lot of the monster heels at this time: Kamala, Bigelow, Gonzalez, Yokozuna, Mr. Hughes, etc.

Yah, I think Bret mistakes what he thinks should of happened into what was actually planned. I don’t see Vince booking Warrior to tap to Bret in 93 let alone Warrior agreeing to it. So a lot to hot air from the Hitman on this one.

I think he wouldn't have had a problem working with him and they could have come up with a finish that protected both guys.

I could see em winning the belts from Money Inc at Mania.Coulndt see a long reign though as they would lose em back to Money Inc so they could feud with the Steiners. Mach goes into the booth post this with Warrior facing the monsters of the era like MKSavage mentioned. Does make you wonder if we wouldve seen Hogan back if Warrior stayed.

I LOVE Bret, but I just can't see the WWF in that era running three face-versus-face main events with him in the span of four PPVs. Totally understand the idea of building up his credibility by having Bret go up against the biggest names in the business. However, you would definitely risk splitting the crowd which seems counterproductive when you're trying to establish a new babyface star with the fans.

I get what you are saying, but I think if there was one guy that the fans would have accepted doing this it would have been Bret Hart. It would have been really tough to pull off no doubt, but I think it would have been very interesting to see. You do have to wonder though once Bret went through the "old guard" who would the big heel be to dethrone him, actually, it probably would have still been Yokozuna now that I think about it.

Well you have to remember that until Yoko there were no more credible heels to even challenge for the belt. Bret already beat Flair and Shawn. And even then Shawn was mid card. Razor was sort of hot shotted out of the midcard for a match with Bret and then went straight back down. I find it pretty believable given the roster at the time. Hell Summerslam 92’s two main events were face vs face.

All in red and yellow, it just screams the golden era of WWF too in a time where the New Generation was taking over.

I think The Ultimate Maniacs would have feuded with Money Inc because when you look at it? Money Inc had nobody to work with until the Beefcake angle kicked off. Their match on the final SNME ended in a chaotic brawl so I could see them returning to that or continuing to another PPV vs Flair/Ramon.
I think Vince having to fire Warrior & Bulldog changed lots. If indeed Warrior was to lose to Bret at RR93? it would have been a small package etc. But if that match was to happen? the build would have needed to start after SSeries really?
Also if Warrior stays I still think we get Hogan back. Prichard says Vince had been talking to him from around October 92. Not out of the question to think Warrior would have gotten the bodyslam on the Intrepid if he had been around....But I still wish it was Sting. man oh man imagine that. Obviously the Stinger doesnt choke at SSlam though LOL

That would have been more realistic than forcing a natural heel down the throats of the fans. Plus, if they decided to give Warrior the belt as well, they wouldn't have had to wait until WM10 to do it, so you wouldn't have had the same finish.

I could see Vince turning Taker and teaming him with Papa Shango to face the Ultimate Maniacs. In hindsight I’m glad they got rid of Warrior and stuck Macho in the booth. No disrespect to either but with them, Beefcake and Hogan floating around the top of the card, it would have stunted the growth of the New Generation breakouts.

It's a shame we never got the SSeries match with Flair/Razor
Perfect time(pun intended) to get the ball rolling on his babyface turn when he accidently costs them the match

I also like the idea of Perfect causing them to lose the match by accident, then getting all of the blame from Flair, Razor, and Heenan until he finally turns on them all.
