Inoki was a very interesting character in the wrestling world. A hero to many, villain to some later in his life/career, but always involved due to his love of wrestling. Rest in Peace Inoki-san.

They just announced this on Smackdown. A true legend of pro wrestling and also a pioneer of mixed martial arts. RIP.

When you think of it, Inoki is part of a select group of people of wrestling, if you took them out of the history, the landscape changes drastically.

I think it may be hard for some that are only familiar with North American wrestling to really know his impact. I’d put him up there with people that went beyond the wrestling bubble like Hogan, Austin, or Rock.

Oh definitely, between his contributions MMA, as well as the legendary (although not that great) boxer vs. wrestler match with Muhammad Ali, he surpassed the atmosphere of the world of pro wrestling.

So many legendary battles with guys like Andre,Flair, Hansen etc. A very important name in wrestling and MMA no doubt about it. A legend in every sense of the word.
For all youngsters out there not familiar with classic Japanese wrestling and wanna dive in, This mans work is a great starting point.
RIP Mr. Inoki

Even though they were works, Antonio Inoki was doing style vs style fights with karatekas, boxers, kickboxers, sumo wrestlers, sambo guys, etc long before UFC 1 took place to put over pro wrestling as a real sport. Can you imagine how the landscape of pro wrestling wouldve changed if he had submitted Muhammad Ali, which he absolutely couldve done had grappling been allowed in their fight?

This should be recognized They should, but they won't because then they cant say Bob Backlund had a near 6 year reign as WWF Champion anymore.
