October 5, 1997.
Not only is this event significant for hosting the first-ever Hell in a Cell match, but it also featured the debut of Kane as well as the untimely passing of Brian Pillman.
Another interesting factoid, this was the last PPV with Vince McMahon on commentary. I know he made some cameos on the air as the Mr. McMahon character, but this felt like the end of an era as he had been the voice of the WWF forever at that point.

Really, this was the last PPV on the announce team for Vince McMahon? I did not know that. Don't remember a lot from this PPV, just the main event. Great main event match, HBK and Taker put on one hell of a performance. The debut of Kane was done well, too. One of the very best main events for a PPV - IMO.

Best HIAC match in my book.Loved the storytelling in this one with HBK bumping his ass off to perfection.Plus the excellent debut of Kane is the cherry on top
As far as Vince's final PPV in the booth, I enjoyed the team of him,King and JR. And I'm not a fan of 3 man booths to begin with. Looking back though it was for the best his run ended as his style of commentary wouldve def not fit in 98 and beyond. Having King/JR for that era with McMahon as a heel character was perfect.
I also liked the tribute to St Louis wrestling. Good tribute to those guys

One of the best wrestling memories I have.
This was the first PPV I watched with my cousin who is several years younger than me, he had just gotten really into wrestling about a year prior and this was the first time his parents let him stay up late to watch a PPV with me.
The Hell in a Cell match is truly a masterpiece, some of the best work that Shawn Michaels and Undertaker have ever done in my opinion. The match was just fantastic and probably my all time favorite Hell in a Cell match if I had to rank them. The debut of Kane is something I will never forget. Even to this day, Kane is one of my cousin's favorite wrestlers and he will often bring up how cool he thought it was when he made his debut.

Best HIAC to date (Lesnar vs UT is #2).
Great debut by Kane & I really enjoyed the flag match too

I remember being at a family party on the other side of town that afternoon and my brother begging my mom to leave so we didn't miss the PPV.
Back in those days, we had the "black box" hook-up in our basement and would huddle around the little TV down there for the wrestling events.
As a 10 year old, Kane was super scary. A perfect debut for a character that would last for many years to come.

Such a fun PPV to watch, which is ironic being it had such a sad ordeal connected to it with the passing of Brian Pillman being mentioned at the event.
The HIAC match is easily the greatest HIAC match ever for WWE. It was so fun to watch and it was just brutal when it comes to the brutality and violence of HBK getting destroyed and doing a vertical gig to his forehead to bleed more.
Overall though, still a great PPV to go back and watch when you are bored and wanting that thirst for that era of the WWF.

I also remember being in bed really really ill when I watched this event. I taped it off Sky and watched it many times. I was and am still a mark for The Patriot so I enjoy that match a lot. The Patriot was pretty much a babyface version of Ludvig Borga. Kind of just showed up one day, received a mega main event push and completely vanished within a few months never to be seen or heard from again. I remember his final appearance coming on Raw right before the 1997 Survivor Series. He was coming down the aisle and Rick Rude threw coffee in his face as a way to write him out of the PPV match due to real life injuries/personal demons. It was odd how his run ended so abruptly. Then again, where do you go with a gimmick like that moving forward? The character seemed tailor-made for the "USA versus Canada" story arc in 1997, but once Bret left the company I believe The Patriot would have drifted aimlessly like a rowboat with no paddles. |

He got savage muscle tears from overuse of juice too. I enjoyed the character from GWF through WCW then WWF. He was a JR/Prichard hire. Vince never liked him because of the mask I believe. |

I wasnt the biggest Patriot fan but I will admit him and Bagwell in WCW were a good team for that era.I enjoyed the feud they had with Pretty Wonderful Oh yeah with Patriot mentioned gotta shout out good brother LA Times |

I watched this show on VHS as a kid probably every weekend for years. My favorite cell match and the Kane debut was just so perfectly done.
