Not only did Cody come back to win what his dad and even his brother couldn’t, he originally left because the company (Vince and Hunter) didn’t see him as a top guy. Didn’t see him as THE guy. Who did they pick as the guy? Roman. So he left to prove he was could be a big name. People can argue it all they want but everything Cody did after leaving the company was to get Vince to see he could be the guy. So now he’s back not only to win the belt for the Rhodes name, but to beat the hand picked guy that was part of the reason he left in the first place. I admittedly wasn’t a fan of Cody in AEW. He felt out of place to me. He feels in place since he came back. And the story is so good and organic that I can’t help but be invested. Well to make that work for the WWE audience, when he comes back, they need to actually make that the program. You can't just have Smarts know what's going on behind the scene. I know he's already talked about his family, but they're going to have to make it THE storyline for the casuals and marks to embrace him. Oh there is no doubt that once Cody wins the Rumble he will bring up Roman being picked over him.

Why does it have to be Cody? Other than his "do it for my family" speech, he was mid-card previously in WWE, and he wasn't champion or loved in AEW. Why do so many people want to rocket Cody to the top of WWE? I just don't get it. IMO, the only one that should beat Roman is Bronn Breakker and he is NOWHERE near ready. Guys like Edge, Seth, AJ, Bobby, Brock, Rey, etc. have had their time. They're "old". You need someone young and fresh to dethrone Roman. Cody was very much loved in AEW. He was the most over babyface they had from conception through the first year plus. Fans turned on him for various reasons. When he left they trashed him as a traitor. WWE fans have fully embraced him. Family legacy. Superstar appeal. One of the better workers and promos in the company. Not really hard to grasp why it has to be Cody unless your bias is that blinding.

Whoever thinks Bron freaking Breakker is the one to dethrone Roman...I would love what you're smoking. It's gotta be Cody and Cody alone. Dude got the shaft his first go round and went out, grinded it out on the indies, helped start his own company, became a massive star in his own right, got tired of working with ing children, and came back home. His shtick is perfect for WWE. We need more true real deal white meat baby faces. But no, let's go with someone like Bron who, although badass, couldn't lace anyone's boots in that company atm. And Roman ain't waiting 5 years to drop the straps to him.

He wasn't around very long before the injury. Would he still be getting major pops had he been around this whole time? Or was in the initial He's Back and We Got An AEW Guy fever?

It's all subjective, man. I can argue til I'm blue in the face they didn't call him a traitor at all, and instead didn't even care he left ... because he was stale (by his own doing never being able to go for the AEW title). And your bias could easily see Cody being there as one of the biggest things ever. See how that works? Family legacy? I mean ... Dusty and Dustin could be seen as NWA/WCW more than WWF/WWE. Again ... po-TAY-to po-TAH-to.

And come on ... Stardust was a comedy character and no one cheered Cody Rhodes as a star when he had the mustache and face guard. He was basically a Ziggler. Now ... if DANIEL BRYAN came back. THERE is the Rumble winner. THERE is the guy to beat Roman. THERE is the beloved star returning "home".

Man that Mean Mark Callous sure never went anywhere. That stardust argument is irrelevant to the topic at hand. Apples and oranges in terms of where he was and where he is now. Try harder bro.

But it’s not subjective. Many called him a traitor. They were mad he left. You don’t have to accept that or agree, but the proof is/was all over the internet. That’s factual. 70,000 people damn sure cared to see him rise up from that stage at WrestleMania. He’s where he needs to be. The biggest stage with a fanbase that actually appreciates him.

LOL no thank you. I'll take the younger guy, the believable guy, the second generation homegrown talent. Danielsons biggest moment in wrestling was so cool, but it was way cooler 10 years prior when it happened for the first time at WMXX. I'm sure he's a great person but in the ring, he's a watered down Benoit. All the same raw talent, none of the intensity.

And that is just one opinion. Of course he got cheered at WM lol. Let's see how fans react to him after a year of wrestling. MY opinion is he's not a top tier superstar. You don't agree. We will both survive this impasse lol.

So we all agree that it has to be Seth right? It could be a triple threat. Roman vs Rhodes vs Seth Rollies Seth is too busy picking out a flashy drip outfit.
Too bad Mox signed again with AEW. That would've been a banger. Roman v Mox. I wonder if HHH would make him be Dean Ambrose again though.

Try harder at what? An opinion? of course because its an invalid one. Comparing Stardust to Cody Rhodes in 2022 is the same nonsense as comparing Mean Mark to Taker. What sense does that make when trying to come up with a compelling enough argument against Cody? None. It makes no sense.

Seth is the best dressed wrestler of today's era. You got me thinking what a shield triple threat at Wrestlemania would of been like.

Roman/Rock does nothing for me at this point, and Roman beating a past-his-prime Rock does nothing for him either. Give us Roman/Rhodes if Cody is healthy by then. They have past beef and can play up both being apart of big wrestling-families.
The other option I see as viable is Roman/Lashley. Kayfabe wise, Brock and Lashley are the only two who have been built to compete on Roman’s level. Roman hasn’t had a real feud with Bobby since winning the Universal Title and would be something fresh and WM worthy.

For me personally, the match doesn't excite me. The Roman character has been boring and stale to me since after the KO feud at the Rumble. I like when feuds feel different from each other. Different motivations. And with Roman, I feel like his promos have been the same regarding every single opponent he has had. Nothing has changed. You can take any promo he has cut and put it before any other match and I wouldn't notice the difference. So I know a Rock feud will be the same. "I'm gonna make him acknowledge me." While Heyman goes off on a long speech about seemingly nothing. Because it feels like lately Heyman thinks "long winded = good" and he has been missing the mark for me lately in promos.
BUT, as far as dollars go. If they CAN do the match, they would be dumb not to do the match.

Braun vs Karrion Kross is supposedly another penciled in match for Mania currently.
