I was looking back on the build to Roman-Brock for WM 34. Now we know how the match turned out and how s*** on that match was. Now I think part of it was the greater ramifications. Brock would defeat Roman and I think that would further irritate the fans, regardless of the Roman hate. Which created further resented lackluster Summer Slam clash.
I think Roman-Brock at WM 34 was a missed chance. I think it was well written story on paper. Being that Roman in the last 3 years had went from one of the emerging stars in the company to a star that has yet to find his definitive moment. That one fact has been over Roman's head, he never beat Brock. On top of Brock and the Universal Championship hostage angle. The video package for these two in my opinion was well dome.
I think Roman getting that win may not have offset the Roman hate, but I think would of allowed substance to this feud and payoff. Brock winning totally pissed on this leg of the rivalry. It would of been huge character growth for Roman overcoming Brock here. Roman could of went on to some good programs in the Summer of 2018 with Strowman, Lashley, Mcintyre, Ziggler, etc.
However, looking back at Brock's first UV run, Raw had some red hot talent in 2017. Joe, Strowman, Rollins, and Balor. I think a lot of those stars were heavily damaged in turn by Brock's title run. But do you think Brock was the only capable with enough star power to carry Raw in 2017/2018?

Rollins , Lashley & Strowman could have all been Champ in 017/018 but I actually liked Brock’s reign.

Brock’s run in 2017 was pretty entertaining to me. Feuds with Goldberg, Samoa Joe, Roman, Braun, and AJ all produced fun moments and matches.
Then 2018 happened and it did a 180. Kane challenging for the title at the Royal Rumble made no sense. And we all knew that the plan all along was Brock/Roman at WM34. Vince had been building to Roman’s crowning moment for years…except rather than just get this forced “crowning moment” over with, Vince got cold feet when the fans still wouldn’t get behind him. Brock won after a horrible match and the WWE continued to sit at a standstill for the next six months until trying again with Roman at Summer Slam. Rather than build a returning Bobby Lashley as a new and fresh challenger for Brock, Vince continued to put a ceiling over everyone’s head until he finally pulled the trigger with Roman going over Brock. And the funny thing is that it wasn’t even a clean win. Years of forcing Roman down our throats and it wasn’t even a clean win against Brock.
From the moment Roman beat Taker in that horrible WM33 match we knew that the plan was Brock/Roman at WM34. Despite it being forced, Vince should have just pulled the trigger and gotten it over with that night rather than delay it 6 months. Years of failing to get him over with the crowd wasn’t going to change in 6 months, so he may have well just started the latest Roman era at WM34.

I think Roman was going to be resented no matter what like you said. Crazy to think we really never saw true face Roman run. Out of those four reigns one of them only cracked like 2 months. WWE in 2018 was a rough and awkward product. I think Roman winning at Summer Slam atleast for me thought weekly storylines and new champion. Crazy part to think was Roman was barely champion month and half, Brock took back the title and remained in the UV scene until Summer Slam ‘19. I think this period could of benefited people like Strowman or The Miz and both could of held good title runs in this era. I just think Brock holding it past WM 34 was damaging.

That was the night for Reigns to beat Lesnar. Vince bowing to Roman haters or going for the shock ending or whatever his reasoning was was just a bad move. It didn’t placate the haters and it just stretched things out. If I remember correctly, the next PPV main event was some random Reigns va Samoa Joe match. I think that would’ve been cool as a title match, but without the title it just wasn’t interesting.
