You know, looking back, perhaps Crush going over Savage at WrestleMania X might have been the way to go. Maybe that could have been what made him a more credible heel for 1994 and perhaps even 1995 if he managed to stay around and out of trouble.

They were able to slowly rebuild his credibility after the Doink rivalry. The heel turn was handled very well establishing him as an imposing force and he even had a strong showing in the 1994 Royal Rumble match. All of that momentum went out the window as soon as Savage hog-tied him like a piñata at WrestleMania X. Crush was done after that although it is odd how he seemingly disappeared for most of the rest of 1994 following his mini program with Lex. With how thin roster was back then - especially on the heel side - you would think that he would at least be consistently booked so something had to be going on behind the scenes.

Ahh yes the botched hog tie finish. It was creative just a shame the execution tanked in the end

WWE never had any plans on pushing crush, they just constantly saw him as a 6 foot 6 inch jobber Insert the name "Adam Bomb" in where you have Crush and that works too yep I cannot deny that my friend... its true

The last TV match I think Crush did was Summerslam Spectacular with Lex and the only reason he was in that feud was because Curt Hennig bailed his 2nd out of 3 times for WWF. So most likely no plans for Crush after a throwaway KOTR tag match were had. Even Vince himself seemed totally shocked Crush was in the 95 Rumble. And yet the guy was brought back again in late 96 and repackaged three times (jailbird, nation, motorcycle club leader). Then and now I still wonder who liked this guy so much to keep him around, keep him in new gimmicks hoping something worked (it never did) for him.

If I remember right, on Something to Wrestle, Bruce Prichard said that Vince had a soft spot for him. I was a huge fan and was always excited when he came back, even if it never really amounted to anything. Plus, while 1997 is one of my favorite years in wrestling all those DOA and Los Boricas (or whatever the hell they were called) interactions were kind of rough and way outstayed their welcome and that is coming from someone that liked both Crush and Savio Vega!
