For Tom (who’s great, by the way) - In all of your years working for Ringside, what’s been the hardest/toughest sell for you? Meaning, a crap figure that you know was crap but you still had to convince the viewers that it was crap worth owning. This is a funny question because it used to be easy: a 1000th John Cena, a Randy Orton with limited deco, etc etc. Those are always tough to call out but I almost feel I'm better at making people excited about those than you'd think because they are usually 'A-list' characters. If anything I've made some of those 'crap' ones more worthwhile, pushed people towards thinking about head swaps or customizing, etc. But I would say nothing gets as hard to push as those final waves of Adrenaline 2-Packs with Jakks once the Mattel stuff had started to flow in. But now that I am not particularly as connected to the current product as I used to be, which I know is the difficulty with many people here, it's a similar challenge of a different type. So someone like Shotzi Blackheart, who has an incredibly detailed look and interesting toy is just not a wrestler (or worse, a 'character') that I am personally a fan of, so I don't really know exactly what to say about her, even after watching a couple of YouTube clips. No disrespect to Shotzi or any of the other folks on any roster, of course. It just can be much easier with modern day folks who are a little more impactful. Then of course there is Alexa Bliss who I have no ill will towards as a person but am less than no fan at all of her possessed/supernatural/mental patient character to the point that I think it's bad for wrestling as a whole, so her Ultimate Edition figure (and Bray Wyatt's for that matter) was hard for me to put on a happy face for.

Thanks for all your insight, Tom. I've always loved your RSC videos. Hearing this input is right along the line of hearing what Steve Ozer has to say.
It's like getting a peek backstage; I love seeing how all the parts of a product come together to create the magic we experience. =D

Loved RSCTom on the figure insider videos on Youtube back in the Classic Superstars days. Tom, can I ask, what happened to the Classic 1/100 Sunny that you opened? Did someone from Ringside end up getting it or did it actually get sold loose? Just a curious memory of me watching it and wondering where it ended up. Thanks Scott! That's a great question. I don't remember, honestly, but it possibly being sold loose is a good guess. The other possibility is that the videographer at the time who is also a wrestling fan may have ended up with it.

Has there been a great moment you've had when you met a certain WWE superstar?

Is Trevor still there at RSC? Trevor is still around and he is the hardest working man in showbusiness...or any business.

I noticed that Ringside stopped doing their whatfigurewednesday on IG. Why did they stop? I'm not normally involved with that but I think it comes down to whether or not there's time for it. It's certainly been a busy season. I also know that at times it doesn't necessarily get a great reaction (which you would think it would). Kind of tough to give figures away to the same 6 or 7 people over and over again. I'm sure it'll be back when it can be done with a bit more freshness.

Yo, Tom. My first RSC purchase was the Jakks BCA Championship Box Set with Undertaker, Rocky Maivia, Owen Hart, and British Bulldog that came with the sculpted World, IC, European, and Tag Team belts. Do you remember what your first RSC purchase was?

Do you remember what your first RSC purchase was? Wow, that's an interesting thought and question. To be honest I don't know if I ever ordered any figures from RSC during that time-frame which is kind of unimaginable because I was checking out images there just like everyone else. But I was 10-14 or 15 at my absolute wrestling peak so I was more into playing than collecting and I basically got what I needed/wanted at KB Toys, etc. Let's just say my BCA Stone Cold and Dr. Death Steve Williams came from RSC.

Yeah, I found RSC by looking for pictures of the toys on the internet back then. But when I saw that box set and the title belts, I begged my mom to let me use the money I saved up to buy it. I think that was the very first purchase my family made on the internet, actually. It’s nuts to think how shopping has changed since then.

That actually reminds me of one time when I bought some 'championship belts' from ebay thinking I was getting something incredible and it was some really horribly laminated paper belts with a couple pieces of velcro on them that someone sent in a regular envelope when I had paid mad money. Learned a valuable lesson for an 11 year old haha. Shopping is a lot better!

Tom belongs in the Ringside Collectibles Hall of Fame.
One of my earliest Tom memories was watching the Jakks Money in The Bank Ring insider video, and him telling us to go outside and do "Jumping Jacks for 20 minutes" while he put it together. I'd always check in every day on the Ringside Youtube page to see if there would be a new RA, DA, Classic, or Adrenaline Figure Insider video. One of my favourite parts about those videos were the posing shots at the end.
To this day, i still go back and watch the old videos sometimes, and remember how cool i thought Tom was because he always had access to these figures that (most) i would never get.

Tom - Besides ringside exclusives…Are there any figures that were made that you believe were made due to your own personal suggestion? Without pulling the curtain back too much, we have a great relationship with Mattel and while our conversations are more geared towards what we cook up together for exclusives, I have casually made some suggestions. I would say we are all in the same mental wavelength as wrestling fans, though, so anything Attitude/RA/Reality Era, which are my favorite wrestling eras pretty much represent what I would like to see. I am not as knowledgeable on golden era stuff. Mattel are great listeners! Interesting. Did you miss golden era / new gen due to age, just not being into wrestling then etc. or were you more a passive fan during that time. Times a funny thing and I often think when people talk about stuff from the 90s it wasn’t that long ago but when you sit and think actually the start of the 90s was 33 years ago boy it makes me feel old! Haha

Also don’t know if you can speak to much on this but have ringside ever thought about having pop up events (snd more specifically international ones)
I went to a pop up a few years back in London which bill came to and a somewhat well known figure YouTuber and it was really fun
I can imagine the logistics obv being a nightmare (even more so post covid) but just wondering if it was ever thrown out just riffing ideas and what if type things? Especially since we had clash in the castle and now MITB over here.
