This is potentially one of the biggest stories in the world of business/sports in a long time. I'll have to wait until everything is finalized to be able to fully process everything. If the sale to the Saudi's is true, I don't know what my WWE fandom will look like moving forward.

Kinda apparent now why only the dirt sheets were reporting on this.

8.5 billion?! Not bad if you compare to the WCW buyout.
Congrats to the McMahon family. Well played.

PWInsider staying quiet on this is pretty telling.

Apparently completely false. Someone made up a bad rumor that has now spread like wildfire.

Or someone leaked the suggested plan to gauge the response

The guy in charge sexually assaults employees and the company itself is fueled in large part by Saudi Arabia blood money. Nothing's changed yet.
A large acquisition like this takes time so let's see how this damages WWE's advertisers and television partners. I think it's very likely FOX won't renew now.

I honestly don’t know how this is going to benefit WWE. I think a lot of fans and possibly big businesses aren’t gonna support WWE they way they do now It will benefit the people who have a large amount of stock in WWE

If Smackdown keeps bringing in viewers and Vince keeps his discretions under wraps, FOX will renew if it means bringing in viewers and makes them money. Not saying it’s morally right, but that’s how the business world works, and sadly the majority of the general audience won’t even know what’s going on behind the scenes.

Fox is publicly traded too right? It would be completely illegal for them to intentionally deny a deal that would earn their shareholders on the basis of "morality". That said, whether or not it will make them money involves both a) those viewers still coming in (which, they will) and b) advertisers being willing to spend their dollars on that program being owned by the Saudi's (Depending on the advertiser, this gets a lot stickier). But, if the ad dollars are going to keep flowing in for SD, then yeah they'd try to renew if the $$ number makes sense for them.

While there are a LOT of people walking this news back, I don't read into that either way. Regardless of if it's true, they'd be walking it back. I'm not saying that the Saudi's are or aren't the buyer, but I'd have expected this response either way. Personally I'm still putting my betting dollars that the company is unofficially sold, and that they just have to go through the longer formal processes before announcing anything. But, that's just me taking my own stab at what's accurate and what's not. Could be way off.

Not saying it’s morally right, but that’s how the business world works, and sadly the majority of the general audience won’t even know what’s going on behind the scenes. Industry sources (non-wrestling) said that FOX isn't happy with SamckDown's ratings based on how much they paid for it. They could easily replace it with something that costs and draws less, but would be better value for them. FOX is in more homes than almost anyone else, so they don't need WWE the way WWE might need them. Remember, that deal they got was earmarked for UFC and Nick Khan leveraged his way into WWE getting a meeting for that contract. A lot of places like Wrestlenomics have said that it's very likely that FOX wouldn't pay WWE more than their original deal but someone like USA who's dying for programming that can draw (that's why they're more than happy with RAW's numbers) is a strong contender to land the blue brand.

I think we are riding a line somewhere between "done deal" and "totally false."

Purchasing a publicly traded company takes time. That investment group can offer more money than Universal (who's likely the only other real bidder) and if they put the wheel into motion then it's a done deal.

Or someone leaked the suggested plan to gauge the response I read a theory about this earlier and it seems like the most logical reason. If the Saudi deal was even realistic to begin with
