Howdy folks,
thought this could be a fun one. I have talked about my VHS collection on here before (that I still have not purged!) and many of us have fond memories of these so i say let's all pick our four favorites. I think that the cut off point should be WrestleMania XV and Stone Cold Steve Austin: Hell Yeah as from my memory these were the first two WWF DVD releases, I know WWF (even into the WWE days) still made VHS's alongside DVD's, but I think the start of the DVD era is a good place to stop things, hell, we could even do a DVD/Blu-Ray one of these later.
Anyway, here are my picks
The Best of Saturday Nights Main Event: This is a real nostalgia based one for me as it is the first tape I ever got. It had The Rockers on the cover and it came with an offer for a free Hulk Hogan figure so I had two of them so it was actually the first wrestling collectible I ever had on display. Anyway, despite no matches with The Ultimate Warrior on here, this has some great action fom 88 and 89. The highlights being The Rockers vs The Brain Busters and Hulk Hogan vs Big Boss Man in the cage.
Monday Night RAW Prime Cuts: I was so excited to get this as a kid as we did not have RAW on TV here in the UK. One of the neat things about this VHS tape is that they re-recorded the play by play so it does not have Rob Bartlet on it. A few of the highlights on this tape are The Steiners vs The Beverly Brothers, HBK vs Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Ric Flair vs Mr. Perfect. Sure they missed some real classic stuff, but this was still a tape I loved.
Smack' Em Whack' Em: This tape features the ladder match between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels as well as a fun match between Undertaker and Razor Ramon. It also has this neat profile on Bret Hart. This tape also has some schtick with Lord Alfred Hayes and the Bushwhackers. I always got a kick out of the silly skits that would be on these WWF tapes back in the day.
Supertape 92: This one is famous for having the This Tuesday in Texas PPV on it. This is a damn fine little PPV that has some cool matches such as Bret Hart vs Skinner, Jake Roberts vs Randy Savage and the rematch of Hogan vs Undertaker. There is also this really fun eight man tag match with The Big Boss Man, LOD and The Anvil going against The Mountie, The Nasty Boys and Earthquake.
I could probably do at least ten honorable mentions, but the ones that spring to mind are, The Ultimate Warrior, World Tour 89, Bret Hart 2, Rampage 91, The Fab 4 and WrestleFest 94
