tigerdrivercollect - Were there more things out there like kinnikuman colosseum or was that a unique playset? There exists several playsets in the Kinnikuman figureverse. The first set is called Godaijou Kessen. There's also the Uchu Chojin Tag Tournament set. The big difference with this version is that there are six individual rings, without the Japanese-styled castle motifs. The differences in these sets is meant to represent the various tournaments that were part of the Kinnikuman saga.
If you like box sets, Kinnikuman periodically releases anniversary collections for their keshi, too. Most of which are organized by volumes, and are considered quite pricey.
Like opening a box of chocolates, the PERFECT COLLECTION box set contains 205 individual Kinnikuman keshigomu. Each one is labelled on the packaging. The premium Vol. 1. set.
The premium set boasts 15 figures in classic salmon/flesh colour.

As much as I love Japanese Wrestling figures, there's quite a few that haven't held up well condition-wise over the years. Here's a collection of examples you should look out for when figure hunting: The HAO Collection Satoshi Kojima figure was one of the first in the original line to come packaged with a championship belt. In the above case, both variants came packaged with the All Japan Triple Crown titles. With the passage of time, the belts themselves have discoloured to a green hue. This error is due to a cheap gold paint that was prominent in many figures from the era. UWFI posterboy and shoot fighting legend Nobuhiko Takada has three figures in the HAO line. The third figure is known as Generalissimo Takada; a heel gimmick Takada used in the HUSTLE promotion. From his scepter to the gold accents on his hat, this version of Takada is known for discolouration. Shoot fighting legend Kazuyuki Fujita is probably the best-known discoloured figure from the HAO line. Like many of the alternate versions, the HAO Collection Great Muta Mech white variant was an online exclusive. As pricey as this figure is becoming, collectors should examine the figure's colouring; as I have owned several examples where Muta's white gear have yellowed. This is the result of exposure to sunlight, and plasticizer leaking from the figure's joints over time; yellowing the figure. One of my favourite figures has always been the Charapro Jinsei Shinzaki figure. You can pose the Jinsei figure in a walking stance; or remove Jinsei's staff-holding arm and replace it with the included bonus arm accessory to recreate Jinsei's signature 'Rope Walk Chop' (also known as 'Old School' to Undertaker fans) technique. Unfortunately, the cheap gold paint dilemma strikes again; as the gold highlights of Jinsei's staff have discoloured to a dark green. The most avid of Jinsei/Hakushi collectors will want to look for examples of Jinsei's staff without discolouration. Though, I myself have never owned one. KING OF TOY figures were also sculpted by HAO. The green version pictured above actually doesn't exist. They are just victims of the cheap gold paint fiasco that has claimed the lives of many a Japanese Wrestling figure. Examples of the actual gold version starting to turn green. "No...you're a factory error ...no....YOU'RE a factory error!"Mogura House, the sister brand of Charapro were also notorious for releasing figures that turned green over time. The above case is the NO FEAR tag team of Yoshihiro Takayama and Takao Omori. Mogura House's Big Van Vader figure (unmasked ver.) with two discoloured GHC belts. This figure also had silver writing that read 'VADER TIME', which has darkened over time. The above case is the single packed Mitsuharu Misawa that is a victim of both a discoloured belt AND leaking plasticizer. Some figures just never get a break. Kenta Kobashi rocking a discoloured belt. The most extreme cases would go from green all the way to black. This version of Kenta Kobashi was supposed to have blonde hair. I've never seen an original one intact without the discolouration. When I first started getting into figure collecting, I was misled by a Japanese listing that stated there exists two versions of the above Dragon Muta. The standard version is the gold paint Muta (right), while the green version is the variant. This is not the case; as the green paint version is simply another casualty of discolouration. When hunting for figures of 'Dangerous K' Toshiaki Kawada; keep in mind that the Charapro version is privy to bubbled paint on Kawada's boots. Sometimes, the bubbles will be accompanied by leaking plasticizer. Another awesome figure that has been plagued by plasctizer is the Kokushi Muso deluxe figure by Charapro. You can see the leaking plasticizer as green accents on Muso's skull necklace. The green goo is also known to leak inside the packaging as well. The good news is, the plasticizer can be cleaned off rather easily; just as long as you're comfortable with removing the figures from their packaging.
My recommendation; especially for HAO figures, is to display them without their packaging. Let them breathe, clean off any plasticizer leaks, and display them outside of their packaging as originally intended. Keeping some of these figures is actually worse for them in the long run.

Some others - the DX Charapro of Fujita, you can never find a blonde one.
The stripe and boits on the single version of Kawada. Oddly the two pack with Misawa is ok.

One of the rarest examples would also have to be the Depomart exclusive Charapro Ultimo Dragon 1 of 500 green variant. The gold highlights are known to dull on a few examples I've owned.

Medicom strikes again with two new additions to their Sofubi Fighting Series line: The original Tiger Mask (Satoru Sayama); a figure that has been released several times already in the past by Medicom now comes with a few minor adjustments. For starters, the mask featured is the original design worn by Sayama when he first started wrestling as the Tiger Mask gimmick. Secondly, there are no gold accents on this version of the cape. The highlights on Tiger's tights also contain orange accents.
A previously-released version of the Tiger Mask figure. Another difference shown in this older version is that Tiger's hands are sculpted with clenched fists; whereas the recent release depicts Tiger with open and pointed hand sculpts; intending to replicate Tiger's signature entrance taunt. Tiger's mask accessory is removable; revealing the face of a young Satoru Sayama. Big Van Vader has also been remade once again. This time, featuring Vader's NJPW debut attire, where the legend squashed Antonio Inoki leading to the infamous Sumo Hall Riot. I believe this was also the first time Vader wrestled under a mask in his career. Another new feature is the ability to remove Vader's ring mask; revealing an unmasked Vader for the first time ever. For more information (or, if you'd like to order these figures yourself), you can check out the official link for them here: cjmart.jp/products/list.php?category_id=13

I have that Shinsake, but I didn't get the bonus arm included! Great thread, as always. Cheers 🍻

My Kenta Kobashi has discoloured hair as well, it's at least nice to know that they're all like that, lol.

In their original packages, both the Charapro Hakushi and Jinsei Shinzaki figure variants came with bonus arm accessories.
In fact, Hakushi has two variants of his own. One version with Hakushi using his prayer pose; and the second with Hakushi assembled with his arms to the side; replicating Hakushi's signature Diving Headbutt.
I still have traumatic memories of my fingers getting sore trying to switch Hakushi's arms many years ago. Not a pleasant experience.

You are lucky the arm was attatched. I had a Josh Barnett arrive MOC with one of the arms at the bottom of the package

I'll give you guys four Japanese figure horror stories. Feel free to get some popcorn, dim the lights and turn on some spooky music, too. Tale #1 - DUSS-T! DUSS-T! DUSS-T!I had purchased two MOC Charapro Brody figures. Both versions. Only to receive the same variant TWICE by accident. On top of that, one of the boxed versions was covered with dust inside the packaging! When I went to inspect the figure, there was no way the dust could have entered the packaging. The blister was not resealed with superglue; nor were there any punctures in the plastic itself. Ultimately, I was forced to commit the gravest of crimes in Japanese figure collecting ...I opened an otherwise perfect Bruiser Charapro figure.
Tale #2 GREAT MAGGOTA Years ago, there was a Chinese seller who sold a large number of Great Muta HAO spider version figures for about $30 each MOC. Unfortunately, these were literal dead stock items, that were sitting in a warehouse for years. Without proper protection, the figure arrived with dead insects found inside the packaging. If customs ever saw what foreign beetle was being imported into Canada ...god only knows what would have happened to my order. When reaching out to the seller, they offered to give me $4 back for the trouble.
Tale #3 10 YEARS YOUNGERWhenever I would collect and sell loose figures, I would try my best to clean up any dust or scuff marks on the older examples. Such was the case with the Mitsuharu Misawa red tights Xmas version figure. I was in the process of using baking soda to clean off a few scuffs, when I accidentally rubbed too hard on Misawa's face, removing his goatee entirely in the process. In a panic, I rushed and got a black acrylic paint to draw in Misawa's missing facial hair; making the legend look ten years older again. Tale #4 CALM DOWN, INOKISpeaking of loose arms, I had received a Toukon Shop Antonio Inoki figure MOC. The throwback 80's one where Inoki is wearing the NWF Eagle belt. Unfortunately, Inoki's left arm had become detached inside the packaging, ending up around Inoki's trunks. With Inoki's facial expression and new, extra-long appendage protruding from between his legs, my Inoki figure looked like he got a little too excited being NWF Champion.....

It seemed quite common for some Charapros bubble to lift. Is this because they were resealed or just poor glue?

It seemed quite common for some Charapros bubble to lift. Is this because they were resealed or just poor glue? When you factor in many of the figures came packaged with multiple accessories, an acrylic display stand, name plate and figure holder ...all attached to a simple cardboard backer without much support beyond that, it's easy to see why many of the bubbles/blisters lift. I've even had blisters peel away from their backers during transit. Biggest offenders from the Charapro line would have to be the Jinsei Shinzaki and Hakushi figures ...which is a shame, as those are some of my favourites.

That makes sense. My Hashimoto/Otani 2 pack was coming off and I blamed the seller for seller resealled good. I may have been too harsh!
My Tanahashi split in transit too. It seems i'm overly critical of Charapros from my last few posts; i'm really not, it's my favourite line of figures! I have about 40 or so carded.

In case you didn't know, both Charapro Bruiser Brody figures come with removable vest accessories. Known as the real chain version, this variant of Bruiser includes tied back hair, an intense facial sculpt, and a diecast chain. Out of the two versions, this is probably my favourite; as it depicts Brody swinging his chain through the crowd on the way to the ring. The type of antics that sent fans running for their lives! In 1999, Toukon Shop, one of the official toymakers for New Japan Pro-Wrestling, began their own separate identity as 'Charapro'. One of the earliest examples of the name change came in the form of the NJPW figure straps. Of course I had to grab a Great Muta one. This is also probably the first time Charapro began shrinking down their action figures from the Super Star Figure Collection to smaller scales.
The company would eventually drop the spelling of 'Charapro' altogether, in a bid to seem more professional, I would imagine.

More of the BJW Kewpie figures. Again, finding quality pictures of these obscurities has been a nightmare. Jun Kasai.
Jaki Numazawa. Judging by his similar mold to Kasai, I'm assuming these two were a tag team.
Not sure on this one. Takashi Sasaki or Ryuji Ito? There's also this guy with the scissors. Sadly, my knowledge of mid 2000's Japanese Deathmatch Wrestling leaves a lot to be desired. There's also this mystery dude at the top whom I can't seem to identify. If you do know his identity, leave a reply.

While Junkshop's Sofubi series isn't made in Japan, I was happy to get an update on The Destroyer figure. Junkshop writes: "DESTROYER UPDATE - Thanks to everyone on the interest on our Destroyer figure. The update is: - The figure has entered Mass Production - He will be available in three colourways - It will be the next wrestling figure released by us - We expect an on sale of early Q3, with some exciting news to come about where you mind find these (and us!)
Thanks for your patience as always - all officially announced figures are not forgotten, they're all in various stages of production."
Despite his incredible success in Japan, The Destroyer doesn't have many official figures released in the land of the rising sun. I can count three at the top of my head: a keshigomu, a Coca-Cola prize figure by BoFord, and a Charapro Mini Big Head. Junkshop will finally give the masked legend his first action figure. I'm sure if Dick Beyer were alive today, he would have enjoyed seeing it.

He had at least 2 Mini Big Heads: one as a Georgia Coffee premium. It still baffles me he didn't have a Bullmark AJW figure, despite being depicted on the packaging...

16d Collection announced two new figures up for pre-order today: Stan Hansen - a repaint of the recently-released beige version. Antonio Inoki (80's version). The last Inoki figure sculpted in the 16d line was based off of Inoki's 1972 first NJPW card entrance attire. This figure serves as the second time HAO has sculpted Inoki as he appeared in the 80's (the first being the Mini HAO Collection Inoki's (red and blue towel variants) from the late 2000's. Personally, I think this version of Inoki should of included the NWF Heavyweight Championship as a belt accessory. Neither of which are available on the Goodsmile shop (yet....). To be honest, I'm kind of underwhelmed with these figures. Especially when you compare them to their original, larger-sized HAO Collection versions that were released 16+ years ago.
