Wrestling figures just aren't as popular as they used to. Retails shops can barely sell them at the normal price so people online will hardly charge a ridiculous amount.

Scalping died because online stock is plentiful, no FOMO, government checks ran out, price increases, greatest hits and re releases. Cuz those checks were so large lmao it was $1400 two years ago

I don't think modern WWE is appealing anymore for scalpers.
And then with legends characters, production and distribution for Target's Legends sets are unbelievable. No collector has to chase all that hard to find them.
Love the post-pandemic receding of scalping.

It barely covers rent for most people and the IRS eventually took it back when people had to paid their taxes.

Lol, seriously? Like sneakers and streetwear aren't built on reselling. That's the entire hobby.

I hear more about "playing the long game", especially from ML collectors. Nobody wants to pay retail and they say they are waiting for clearance. Every WWE and AEW figure I bought at full price in 2022 could've waited for an end of year sale. It was the same for a lot of other figure lines. I lost so much money by not waiting.

It barely covers rent for most people and the IRS eventually took it back when people had to paid their taxes. All those stimulus checks people received were tax free. A lot of people who received them never lost their job and didnβt really need them so it was all disposable income. So people just spent on a variety of goods. That sudden demand is one the main factors of the inflation issue we are living through

I remember the great NXT/Pete Dunne wars of 2019β¦ Lord don't remind me lol That was probably the most fun I had hunting for figures since I got into collecting the Mattel figs,it seemed like such a rush finding them on the shelves. I know it was probably dumb to most and something so small but I loved it.

the stimulus checks did not lead to the boost in reselling, it was obviously there always but it ramped up in 2020-21 for reasons other than the checks just like in toys.

Look at the store exclusive lines. People still scalp those like crazy.
Whoever is among the very first people to find the new Legends when they come out, often scalp them like crazy. I remember when I saw people buying Legends Kane for $100 because no one knew it was even out yet.
The Ruthless Aggression line, and probably any and all Walmart figure lines, will be scalped forever because distribution is so bad and Walmart doesn't honor their online preorders well.
But yes, Mattel overall has such solid distribution that its no where near where it used to be. The most gouging I see anymore are for exclusives, which I honestly understand. Like, if people are going to start dropping $300 on the Black Card Sgt. Slaughter, it makes me want to sell mine because that price is just outrageous.

Scalping died because online stock is plentiful, no FOMO, government checks ran out, price increases, greatest hits and re releases. Cuz those checks were so large lmao it was $1400 two years ago I never said that was a sole reason but many people did have disposable income and you don't realize payment was different in certain places. Here in Canada our CERB program was ongoing and pretty much anyone could apply. I know for a fact people were not working and would get extra money and then use that to flip figures for a profit. The main reason scalping is down is because everything now is easier to get, not as desirable and people are spending less money.

Like, how hard is it to come to the conclusion, "People stuck at home will instead spend their going-out money on a hoard of stuff"?

yea ik but the way people talk about it, they act like it was 10k in ebay credit

Scalpers are still around. But with price hikes and scarce restocking it's hard to consider this a side gig yet alone a
