We (the scalpers) will always be here... loitering in the darkness...always watching for that flicker...that....illusive moment when an oppertunity arises to take your hard earned cash. Perhaps you will see us as you walk through your store...yes we will even take the box damaged stuff and sell it loose....but have no doubt...we are there in the shadows waiting...eventually we will get something good...something that you must have that is in short supply.....and when you click that button....when the temptation of a quick buy it now easy fix gets to much for you to resist...WE will happily take your cash......so why fight it? Go on....buy from us and its gonna feel.....so good. scalping is a true art

I think there's much less flipping opportunity in wrestling figures particularly, since we all get our stuff from a few major sites and Mattel makes so many that we can even preorder chases. It's mostly just exclusives or other limited/specialty figures that get scalped. It's largely the same for other types of figures now. If I wanted to make money off figures, I'd buy heavily on a boutique product with a time window preorder and be aware I might have to hold onto stock for awhile. Anything mass market, it's like, what could the margins possibly be for buying a $20-25 figure at a major retailer and eBaying it? It's taxed income and eBay takes a cut. I agree. I preordered like two Mezco figures from like last year and might have to sell them off, even though I don't want to. I think higher end figures are a little easier to let go of than wrestling figures because people are willing to spend more and might just have a bigger budget. Just selling off a large portion of my wrestling collection was a headache within itself with lowball offers, selling figures for discount cheap, buying supplies, paying for shipping and then taking losses from Ebay cuts. You also get the occasional Ebayer with zero feedback who then claims their package never arrived either. BTW, did that tax law go into full effect?I think the $600 reporting threshold goes into effect this calendar year and will impact 2024 taxes? I'm having trouble linking to eBay's FAQ page about it, but it seems to confirm that.

It would also be available on your eBay account. Source: I filed my taxes Monday.

I filed my own taxes with TurboTax and manually added my 1099-K. "For taxpayers who may have already received a 1099-K as a result of the statutory changes, the IRS is working rapidly to provide instructions and clarity so that taxpayers understand what to do." - I never received any instructions. I was only trying to do the "right" thing!

That email was sent last year though. I clicked the link and nothing. Oh well... It's absolutely ridiculous that we have to pay taxes for items we already paid taxes for previously. At this point I've sold most of my collection for crumbs.

The threat of the greatest hits line changes the risk for scalpers when they speculate on future values.

The last wave of scalping seemed really ill-advised to me. As if a bunch of people all listened to the same podcast that told them buying from the store and then using Facebook marketplace try to replace the store, was a great idea. When someone won't pay you $80 for a Top Picks AJ Styles, I think they realized it isn't that easy.
Scalpers in my area were going to stores and buying multiples of entire cases and trying to sell them at twice the price. They most likely ended up with way too much product they couldn't move and gave up...for now.
Feels much better knowing my stores are empty because of...I don't know why, rather than scalping.

I sometimes view scalpers as Doordashers. Pay a little up charge for them to get it for me so I don’t have to take myself to the store to find it. Sometimes it’s really come in handy. Especially with the Ultimate collection. I’m not totally anti scalpers. The ones that put things up for ridiculous prices usually won’t sell it for that high and you just have to wait for them to realize and drop the price down.

I’m only speaking for me personally as a collector. It’s made my life and the hunt a little easier.

Online availability has helped alot. Most figures I buy online now. Rarely do I go actually hunt. Wait for a ringside sale and get em. My area used to get the brand new stuff but my local stores are always so behind. I buy the target exclusives and that's about it. Walmart near me never has anything and I hate going to Walmart anyway lol
