I have been reading my old PWI magazines a lot lately because I feel after spending so much money on them over the past year or so, I should eventually read them ha ha ha
In my doing so I have came to the years of Kerry winning the NWA Title at the David Von Erich Show, and even stories past that of Kerry wanting to reclaim the NWA World Title that he lost to Flair only weeks after he won it.
Now with that being said, would Kerry Von Erich have won the NWA World Title if not for David's passing?? By 1984 it could easily be said that Kerry should be the Von Erich to be World Champion, even over David. Kerry had the look, the charisma, the image of a champion. David didn't. Though from what I was reading in the 1981 - 1983 magazines they stated many times that David was on his way to becoming NWA World Champion.
So if David hadn't passed, would have Kerry - or even any Von Erich - be the NWA World Champion from 1984 onto the future.

Yes David was the one they were grooming to be champion. But had David not passed and Kerry didn’t have the accident I think Kerry would have eventually gotten the championship.

Kerry had the best look but from what I have watched David had the better moves.
It would have been epic for both to have it, I often wonder where David would have fit in the 90's... (maybe he would've been a full time Gaijin)

Fritz lobbied hard for Kerry to get the title back but good lord it wasn't happening after how pilled up Kerry was at those matches.

From everything I've heard/read, David was next in line to get the NWA title, with Kerry maybe being a possibility down the line. When David died, they did the favor for Fritz and gave it to Kerry with the intention that he would drop it back to Flair soon after. It was kind of a nice gesture for David and the Von Erich family and a test for Kerry to see how he did with the belt. Apparently he didn't do well, no-showing events he was scheduled for, because of that, they dropped the belt back to Flair sooner than expected. This probably hurt Kerry's chances getting the belt later in the decade, along with other guys like Magnum, Sting and Luger coming into the picture as possible title holders.
