So I've been watching a lot of 96 Nitro lately & in fairness it was very entertaining because of the tag team scene. But man there was some difference between the 2 companies in this respect....
WWF:
Godwinns Bodydonnas Smokin Gunns New Rockers Owen & Davey Furnas & Lafon
WCW:
Steiners Road Warriors Sting & Luger Faces of Fear Harlem Heat Public Enemy Nasty Boys Fire & Ice American Males Blue Bloods Outsiders Amazing French Canadians
On WCWs side there were a LOT of entertaining matches from this division....but Vince seemingly lost interest in his crew around 95 in a big way.

The tag division was at it's lowest when you only have 4 tag teams in the summer of 1996. Godwinns vs. Gunns vs. New Rockers vs. Bodydonnas at SummerSlam 96 was just a sad state of the tag affairs the WWF had at the time.
Owen and Bulldog saved the tag division. They were heels and got over as faces when they won the belts off the Gunns and when they defended them against the Gunns a month later.
Furnas and Lafon vs. Bulldog and Owen was an incredible little feud that we got to witness, but unfortunately Lafon was already too broken from his years in Japan and Furnas looked about as bloated as Davey did in his matches so they would slow down a bit.
As for WCW, not only those teams you mentioned, you also had teams like Jarrett & Mongo, Benoit & Anderson, R n R Express, Slater and Buck, etc. Eric Bischoff got lucky during that time frame. Not only did he have Hogan, Nash and Hall creating a buzz, he had a great tag division, a great cruiser weight division, with Mexicans, Japanese and European wrestlers among the Canadian and American wrestlers.
Crazy to think that WCW still ended up losing the war when you look back at 1996 and compare the two companies.

WCW defeated WWF in the tag department from 92-97
Wasnt till the Outlaws got going in 98 where the division got life again

No doubt WCW had the better tag team scene, but I loved pretty much everything Owen and Bulldog did, they were such a fun team.

I was just watching some of the R&R Express earlier & realised I had forgotten to list them....they were pretty good in 96 too

I wanna say Bulldog was pretty much baby face from when Austin attacked him. I remember in December 1996 where Bulldog and Austin had beef cause of Bulldog trying to save Bret or something like that. Owen was taking Austin's side and that's when the beef between Owen and Davey started. Then we had Owen eliminate Davey at the Rumble, and cause a dq at the next PPV and Davey got upset over that. Then we had the one on one match on Raw for the European Title, where Davey was 100% baby face. I wanna say that remained that way until that one Raw after WM where Bret stopped their match and reunited everyone together as heels.

Yeah he was as close as can get to babyface. Wont say fully though due to him being tag champs with Owen but yeah he was pretty much 95% baby Still get a laugh at the Rumble when he gets tossed out he's like ''he threw me out!'' in reference to Owen and King calls em a whiner in the process lol

The unfortunate part was when Hall and Nash came in and dominated the tag scene in WCW it really suffered yeah in 1997 it started to decline. The Outsiders vs The Steiner's was the feud the crowd wanted but they kept drifting away from it. Consequently? when the Steiner's weren't after the Outsiders & beefing with The Faces of Fear or Public Enemy on PPV we were left wondering why? Like the nWo ran Rick & Scott off the road...why didn't they want them dead after that? LOL

LOL Yep, I get why Nash and Hall became a tag team but it lead to random pairings and actual tag teams became a afterthought. A shame

WWF tag team division was so bad they had two heel teams facing each other for the tag belts Fake Razor Fake Diesel vs Owen and Bulldog.
