With the problems the RCMP always had with the character, I've wondered, how did Hasbro make the Mountie figure, in full uniform years ago? Were the Mounties not as protective yet at that point? I wonder why the rcmp had an issue but there was no issue with heel boss man, I mean the character as a whole not just figures? Not saying rcmp didn’t have a point or the right to have an issue, just curious. Maybe because the boss man’s wasn’t an accurate outfit but mountie was? Boss man wasn’t using the name of a police force but mountie was using the mountie name?

This comes up every year. Hall of Fame does not mean a legends deal. Yes it’s an indication that there’s some sort of communication and goodwill between the two parties that could potentially lead to a them coming to terms on a merchandise agreement but HOF simply means they can use their name and likeness for that event and solely that event.

And yeah, Mattel would likely steer clear of the full RMCP attire but the wrestling attire/Quebecers look and just putting Jacques Rougeau on the box is definitely doable.

What’s the connection with him and them? Don’t they usually have people with connections induct them? He has always been good friends with Jacques. He even took a rare clean loss in Canada in Jacques “retirement match”

Boss Man was a generic American cop, Mounties are like a very specific role in Canada and he had an outfit just like theirs I guess it would be like if there was a character that’s supposed to be a Buckingham Palace guard and just wore their stuff. Only the guards at that palace wear those red outfits

And I think at one point he couldn’t wrestle in Canada in the Mountie attire. But this is from years ago so I may be remembering it wrong. lol

So even if the RCMP were ok with the character, Mattel would have to 1. get permission and 2. pay a royalty fee to license the name and imagery which doesn’t seem likely. They’d just make the Quebecer version and give him a shock stick or whatever it was called. Protecting our image What most people don't know is that our name, image and marks are protected under the intellectual property laws of Canada. Many people and businesses at home and abroad ask permission to use our image for things like: movies documentaries books TV shows collectibles and clothing Some of the items protected by intellectual property laws include our: badge motto communications products photographs videos Royal Canadian Mounted Police or R.C.M.P (Gendarmerie royale du Canada or G.R.C in French) any other combination of letters relating to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police any likeness of a uniformed police officer
