What exactly was Dustin Rhodes doing all that time in the WWE for all those years??
I appreciate the story line that they are doing, but poor Dustin. The guy was in the WWF/E for all those years and not once did he try to finish the story.
Are we supposed to believe then that Dustin's time in WWE never happened?? I like Cody Rhodes but I just feel like poor Dustin gets the shaft a lot when you compare him to Cody.

Dustin's only real time there was as Goldust. Dustin was only in the WWF for a little bit so there is no story to tell.

Yes, I know, but it makes Dustin's time in the WWE seem ridiculous now.
Why wouldn't Dustin want to win the WWE Title for his dad, and just Cody??
I just look at Cody's career and see he accomplished everything that his dad did, and poor Dustin didn't come close to it at all.

True, but his dad wasn't wrestling for the WWE Title either then, he was long retired.

Dustin doesn't have the same daddy issues that Cody does, or doesn't feel like Dusty was especially victimized by not winning the belt. Dustin was his own man.

Dusty was alive for most of the time Goldust was there. And for the period he wasn't, dust was a job guy.

Now? Everything Goldust did was ridiculous. He wasn’t a gimmick meant to be a word champion. He didn’t carry the Rhodes name because he and his father were at odds. He didn’t have a legacy he was continuing.

Cody is finishing his own story. They may be brothers but they can have different motivations and different relationships with their father. His path is fairly independent of Dustin's and Dustin's story in WWE was not primarily that of redemption for his father like Cody's is in his current run. None of that supposes Dustin's run as Goldust was meaningless or didn't happen, it's just that their careers developed differently.

If I remember correctly, Dustin and Dusty had a much more strained relationship than Cody and Dusty did. There's something like 15 years between Dustin and Cody, which is obviously going to play a role in shaping the paths their lives take. Every interview I've heard with Cody has him talking about Dusty coming to see his high school wrestling meets and such when he was growing up, and everything I've heard on Dustin's end reads a lot more combative between the two of them. Two different guys, two different primes, and two different relationships with the common bond being the guy who put them on this earth. Families can be messy like that.

This whole Cody/Dusty stuff is getting beyond cringe. Does he have to say every week that he is Dusty Rhodes son?
Can he not just be his own person and do things for his own legacy instead of trying to finish his fathers story?
The Rock didn't win the WWE title for Rocky Johnston, he won it because he considered himself The Great One. His father was rarely mentioned.

Back to the Codyverse is not going to like some of these comments, put some respect on your next Ultimate Undisputed Universal WWE Champions name. Ah man it’s all good. I do love me some Cody Rhodes but I completely get how/why he puts some people off. I liked Cody from his main roster debut up until Stardust. I thought it was ridiculously stupid. He left and since I have never made the time to watch much of his stuff on the indies. By the time he was in AEW I had developed a disdain for him, for whatever reason. I thought he was a douche bag. Once rumors started he was coming back, I did some due diligence and watched his early Indy stuff and early AEW and he was ing brilliant. WWE has booked him like a star and I think he deserves it. It’s a cool story even tho he will milk being Dusty’s boy til it’s dry and then keep milking. All in all, WWE has presented him as a good guy, white meat babyface and I didn’t know how much I wanted to see that again until it happened. Sorry for the mini novel

Because him being Dusty’s son and winning the belt that has alluded his family is the story. Once he wins it, he becomes his own man and moves forward out of his fathers looming shadow. He’s literally said it multiple time. And yeah that may have something to do with Rock cutting ties with his father for a long while.
