I was just thinking about this today & man Vince lost a lot of top heels in 1990 for one reason or another...
Honky Tonk Man (left Jan 91)
Rude
Akeem
Bad News Brown
Andre
The Rougeau Brothers
Ax
For me? It weakened the heel roster significantly because a lot of these dudes weren't replaced or were too strong/over as heels to be replaced.
It's something I had never noticed before...thoughts?

Rude was the biggest loss imo as he truly found his footing as a heel (short hair/more serious).
Looking back though I'm glad he did as we got that awesome WCW run in the process.

Interesting, I never thought of it before. Though, a good number of those guys had dropped a lot in the eyes of fans. Rude was probably the biggest loss, but he did have a great run in WCW. In the end, they did lose these guys, but they did add: Flair, Taker, Jake, Nasty Boys, Natural Disasters, Mountie. So they did get some good ones during the next year.

Certainly enjoyed rude in wcw working with younger talents, but it’s fun to consider what could’ve been had he stayed and had Vince’s backing

Rude taking the title off of Bret at Survivor Series 1995, then losing it to Diesel at WM11 would have been great. |

yeah all the build up with rude vs warrior at summerslam then he just dissapears. i wish he'd had won the belt from warrior and stayed for a bit.
imagine matches with good guy mr prefect in 1992/3
matche with bret, razor & shawn
and a dream match for me, rude vs luger

Heenan bringing him back into the WWF in 1993 to help him get revenge for what Perfect did to him and Flair would have been a amazing. Had he not gotten injured in 1994, I wonder how long he would have stayed in the WCW. I think he would have had a run with Hogan then nothing. Or maybe he would have seen the writing on the wall with Hogan coming back in and bringing all of his friends, maybe he would have seen that he wouldn't have been pushed very far/high, and that it would have been like it was in the WWF back in 1990. Maybe he would have gone back to the WWF at this time. Vince was looking for guys he could use, Rude was still young enough to fit in with this era, it would have been great bringing him back to the WWF after having a great run in WCW. Especially if they brought him back in mid/late 1994 and early 1995. In 1995, the WWF was in dire need of a top heel to work with their many babyface stars: Diesel, HBK, Bret, Taker, Razor, Luger, Bulldog, Bam Bam, etc. Rude would have fit in nicely. He could work with anyone, he was great on the mic, and had name recognition. Him as the new leader of Camp Cornette would have been awesome. |

Would have loved to have seen Rude take the Genius’s place v Hogan and Warrior.
But going back to the original list, yeah that was a lot to lose in the space of a year.

Always felt Earthquake was Andre's replacement as the monster in 1990. I know he was there in 89 but as you say just hadn't gotten the feet under the table |

Still get a laugh when late in the year on PTW when they were introducing the Mountie character, Gorilla is like ''Fans have been asking what ever happened to Jacques Rougeau well here he is'' with them showing the vignette
After almost a year fans were really asking about Jacques? What about Raymond? lol just so random
