If anyone has been waiting for Mattel Creations to have a sale on some older Coliseum Collection sets, they are now 40% off through November 10. Includes Piper/Steele and Jake/Rude. Hogan/Funk was only 20% off but it appears to have sold out. I ordered another Piper/Steele and another Dibiase/Steamboat. Can't wait to see who's after Bam Bam and Bossman! I just cannot see this line selling well. Interest seems to go down with every release. Probably the only thing that can make a difference is getting some great first time legends in here Agreed. It is the pricepoint for me. We are paying for the packaging essentially. Just sell them in loose baggies for all I care. I just want the figures as I am a loose collector. Eventually these will end up on ebay loose but most will stay sealed up.

Your sales perception is based off of what? Posts on this board (which isn't even as active as it once was)? The line is a couple years in and only 2 releases a year - of course people are not going to be posting about it on a daily basis. Mattel now has enough sales data to present to Amazon and they decided to take over the releases. Obviously, they must have been satisfied with what was presented to them - I don't think Amazon would have taken over the line. It would have stayed on MC or been canceled. The line probably has another 5 years or so max. A FTIL Haku or Koko is not going to move the needle as much as we think/want. And history has shown that we aren't going to scare/pressure Mattel/WWE into releasing a flood of FTIL figures. If sales decrease, they'll just end it and move on to something else.

For me, it’s the lack of sell-outs and annual significant sales that have me concerned this line isn’t doing very well. It’s my favorite Mattel line ever, but I too think it’s releases are likely winding down. I would be pleasantly surprised if we get the “another 5 years or so” you stated.

I think Mattel knew this wouldn't be a hit. I think they just wanted it to be a sustainable passion project. Golden Era collector's aren't the majority. We're getting older. Our numbers are dwindling. I think that's why they were Mattel Creations exclusives. They might have sold a few off store shelves, but the average 8-12 year old kid isn't going to want these figures. I think they release them twice a year and keep them as online exclusives to keep time and energy spent on these down, so they can turn enough of a profit to make it worthwhile.
I'm not worried about the numbers, because they can always make less. I think the biggest threat to the line is when Mattel hits a point where they run out of talent they think even the most hardcore Golden Era collector will buy. Until then, I'm just going to enjoy the line while we have it. I'd rather have 6 or 7 series then never had this line at all.
It's the line that got me back into collecting. I bought a New Gen ring off eBay to display them in. I'm getting a nice little dopamine hit twice a year (which makes is insanely sustainable for the collector) when a new set drops. I'm happy.

For Mattel Creations, I think we put too much emphasis on "sell out." We don't know the quantity they initially ordered and if/how many times they ordered more if stock was getting low. IIRC the first two sets eventually went made to order. It's smart for MC to keep adding stock for this sets for collectors. It's harder to grow the base when you just find out about the line and the first 5 sets are sold out (and now you are stuck buying on secondary markets). If the sales were so bad, i think they would have ended the line and Amazon wouldn't be picking it up. With that being said, Amazon could very well cancel it if they aren't happy with the sales of Bossman/Bigelow. I think we could easily get 4 years - 5+ is doable assuming that they get people back/new signings: Bossman/Bigelow Jessie Ventura/Nikolai Volkoff HTM/Iron Sheik Andre (long hair/blue)/Studd Hogan/Hillbilly Jim Warrior/Bruno Beefcake/Bob Orton Harley Race/Valentine And then the line extends if you get Macho, OMG and/or Demolition back at some point, any of the missing tag team partners (Barbarian for Warlord, Dynamite for Bulldog), and FTIL like Koko/Haku (if an anchor is still available)

Thank you for articulating this so well for me. Like you, I hope that I am wrong and the line is doing well. But ignoring reality doesn't change the reality…

Realistically I think we have 3 waves left before they need to sign more big names.
Andre wave (w/Studd?) Warrior wave (w/Honky Tonk?) Yellow Hulk wave (w/Sheik?)
Then if we get some more signings.
Macho Man (w/Liz) Demolition One Man Gang (w/Slick)
I can’t see any others happening unless they reduce numbers and bump up the price.

Are we not seeing Dream Team (Beefcake and Valentine) as a big enough set to be produced? I hope for them, personally. Also, I’d rather Sheik be with Volkoff, if he’s still available. But generally, I agree with your assessment.

I find it humourous that Hulk Hogan/Terry Funk is still available. I was one of those that rushed to Mattel Creations the second it was available because I thought they would be swooped up in minutes.

I’m not trying to speak ill of any other talent, but I can’t imagine Mattel thinks a Dream Team set would sell much worse than a Bam Bam/Boss Man set. That Beefcake LJN was so cool. I didn’t care much for him as a talent when I was a kid, but I loved that toy.

I am looking forward to getting Bam Bam Bigelow, at the very least. The only two I have purchased so far are the Roberts/Rude set and the Piper/Steele set, because I didn't have George Steele from its earlier release. I don't have Bigelow from the earlier release, either. I have multiple Jakes but they're all different so they're good. For me, I didn't feel a need to buy figures where the originals were good and fit my loose collection well. Like the Hart Foundation, which I already had.

Looking back at the list of signed talent, I think we can get six sets without new talent signed. Anchors have *
Honky Tonk Man / Ultimate Warrior* Bobby Heenan* / Harley Race Big John Studd / Andre the Giant* Iron Sheik* / Nikolai Volkoff Brutus Beefcake* / Greg Valentine Jimmy Hart* / Junkyard Dog
I know managers have been discussed back and forth, but Ultimate Bobby’s and Jimmy’s would sell with different expressions, soft goods attire and accessories.
With the UE 13 Hogan and the upcoming Best of WM III Hogan, I don’t see them putting a red and yellow in this line.

Is Superfly Jimmy Snuka an option, or is he officially canceled? Sorry for a 2nd post so fast but that is another one I could see wanting, especially in his early 80s attire since the only one from Mattel has him in his 1990-1992 attire with boots.

Considering the Best Of Wrestlemania 3 Hogan has already rocketed up the best seller list on Ringside, I'm going have to disagree. They might be saving Hulk Hogan incase the line is about to be cancelled and they need a big time boost.
