I became a wrestling fan in 1994 but was only 4 at the time so I didn’t get to experience what long-time fans did when it was announced Hulk Hogan was joining WCW. The face of the WWF was doing what many thought was unthinkable by joining the competition after a decade+ on top up north.
I’ve watched the WCW Saturday Night clips where they visit the set of Thunder in Paradise, and it seems crazy that less than after after his last WWF appearance that he was jumping ship. WCW also capitalized right away on the huge Hogan/Flair feud that McMahon had botched just a few years earlier, booking it as the biggest match of all time.
For longtime fans watching at the time, what were your reactions when it became apparent that Hogan was joining WCW?

I was born in 89 so the same but in the end turned out great for both companies though I preferred WCW before Hogan arrived.

I'm kind of torn on this. On one hand, him going to WCW really helped them step up their game, not to mention more eyes were on the company after he joined so it allowed them to do more, and it did set up the Monday Night Wars. But, on the other hand, I really liked WCW in 1992-1994, it felt different than the WWF at the time. It was nice having two different types of wrestling shows that you could go to for entertainment.

He was on borrowed time in New York after the 92 Rumble. He should have done the favors for Sid on the way out then that should have been the end of him in WWF at that point.

Hogan didn’t belong in new gen wwf and neither did I. I switched over to wcw and loved all the old wwf guys there

So I was 13 yrs old when Hogan signed with WCW in 1994, so I got o witness it all! My feeling on it was that it forever changed WCW and not in a good way. Not until 1996 at least. The 1994 era of Hulk Hogan didn't feel right, and then when Duggan, Honky Tonk Man, Savage, Earthquake all showing up in 1994 for WCW, it just wasn't enjoyable for me.
I look back to early 1994, we get Flair vs. Vader, Sting vs. Vader, Flair vs. Steamboat, Flair vs. Windham, and then we end up having Hogan just doing his usual WWF stuff in WCW, I just didn't care for it then.
Sting took a back seat to Hogan, which I didn't like. It was even worse when Savage came in because Sting became the third guy in that trio.
But if you watch Slamboree 94 and then watch Bash at the Beach 94, it is like night and day when it comes to the WCW era!

i was kinda bummed at 1st. iled the wwf & wcw were both doing in 1993.
it chenged WCW alot at the time and i didnt like it. we ent from stellar matches with steaboat/rude/sting/flair etc to the booty man, the shark and the dungeon of doom.
i started to warm up to it a bit tho and liked it more in 1995.

I was in Orlando in Feb 1994 and went to a WCW Worldwide taping in Universal Studios that was literally right next to where Thunder in Paradise was being filmed. I was thinking if they were this close to each other, wouldnt WCW be at least asking Hulk Hogan if he was interested in joining them. He ended up signing a few months later and I was excited. Hogan really didnt fit the New Generation Era and while he and his friends did phase out some WCW originals, its a business. I loved early 90s WCW but they were also some rough years for the company and the whole industry itself.

I was 14 when this happened. I had noticed around October 1993 that Hogan was def gone again( I thought for sure the Hulkster would have gotten his revenge) and I found it really weird that this was happening.
In Ireland we had minimal exposure to WCW until early 1996 when Nitro started airing Friday nights on TNT. Up to this? Its scheduling was all over the place on ITV but my friend James did see the episode of WCW Saturday night where it said he was coming. After that what I seen was via the Apter mags and Hogan & Savage being on Baywatch saving the beach from Flair & Vader.
The entire thing felt really strange to me and then when I started watching WCW in 1996 he was kinda fading away into the background. Then boom Heel turn & nWo.

1994 is really my first clear wrestling memories and I was 3-4 at that time and I do remember not really understanding why Hogan wasn’t with WWF anymore and it led me to watching WCW which led to me becoming one of the biggest little Stingers around
