I get why people feel that way, to me this would be much more egregious because WWE/Mattel lost Sting to another wrestling company. Sting was part in making those choices to sign whatever deals he signed with AEW, whereas someone like Jake continued his legends contract with WWE (and reportedly Billy Gunn has as well). Losing Macho Man because the company that just sold out for $9 billion didn't want to afford the upkeep would just be a pretty crappy situation. I get that it could be a situation where Savage's estate asked for way too much, but that wouldn't explain how much smaller companies are finding ways to afford him. I agree, which I where I have a tendency to think there's some merit to the idea that the issue lies in WWE wanting exclusivity (possibly because as their streamlining costs in relation to the sale they've decided that Macho's licensing fee is only "worth" it if his stuff is exclusive). Now, IMO that would also be stupid and shortsighted on WWE's part. Makes a lot of sense and the person saying "WWE? Short-sighted??" is 100% in the pocket as well lol, I just don't see how they could take that stance unless they are literally not thinking even one step ahead. There's some major WWE talent in a similar deal to Macho. Andre and Eddie are two we know for a fact, DDP I guess would be because the former-Chella showed a prototype of him. If an affiliation with PWT's is any indication add Steve Austin, Bret Hart, Roddy Piper, Scott Hall, Iron Sheik, Bobby Heenan, Booker T, George Steele, Harley Race, Jake Roberts, Jerry Lawler, Kurt Angle, Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, RVD, Scott Steiner, Sgt. Slaughter, Ted DiBiase, and that's only including who I thought were the really big names. Is WWE prepared to take a similar stance on these names assuming they've done so on Savage? Feels like it would be a better business strategy to do what your fans want and pay these people and their families what they can afford to pay them.

I'll say this...if his deal is done and WWE won't resign him back to one, it's a real shame we only really got (1) WWF Macho Ultimate. And it's far from being one of his better attires. I actually skipped it because I figured we'd get a ton more Macho Ultimates. Guess that's a lesson learned.

If the reason is they couldn’t get exclusivity then I wonder if they will crack down on these independent toymakers using WWF/WCW attires. Whether or not they have any rights to the attire, I can see them being petty and send ZST a cease and desist and bankrupt them with legal fees if they don’t comply.

The more figure companies and options within the wrestling world, the better for Mattel and way better for us fans. Mattel can’t and won’t make some of the guys we need so we need others to go and fill in gaps in our collections, Mattel trying to crush them would be bad business. Their product would drop off and there would be less interest and therefore less purchases in the wrestling figure collector world. These other companies should be spurring Mattel on to be bigger and better, not just do a Vince and kill the competition to ultimately end up with a dead market.

And I think that was meant to be announcer Randy, right? Cool collectible piece, but not an awesome figure imo

Mattel has no claims to the imagery but WWE could claim since that attire appeared on their programming it’s their IP.

Because wouldn't Jazwares just do Owen Hart in WWF attire if that was allowed? I don't understand anything legally on that end

The WMX one used his tights that are more WCW oriented and the other ultimate used his plain Oh Yeah jacket we should have gotten a few figures that had the whacky patterns on

This would be WWE, and they literally don't care about any of that. They want to dominate market share for anything and everything related to wrestling. This is probably the tip of the iceberg of what we'll see in the coming years as they try to squeeze out every new nickle they can find. You don't buy a company for $9B and just sit back and let it ride. They're going to be pushing aggressively to bring in all the additional revenue they can get their hands on. The rumor of trying to force an exclusive deal makes total sense in the context of the merger.

I once asked AFA if they were able to make Warrior from his last match with Orlando Jordan and he said they couldn’t. So I would suspect that ZST making a bastion booger considering he didn’t wear that attire in non wwf setting wouldn’t be legal.

It's a little alarming to have no updates by this point, however nobody on this forum works for Mattel so we don't know what is going on. If they are not saying anything it clearly is for a reason, likely legal in nature. Who knows? But regardless, I think it's pretty safe to assume we will have an answer this weekend one way or another.

If they keep their production numbers under a certain amount then they can get away with it but big mass marketed figures cannot.

I love the UE8 figure despite minor inaccuracies and the jacket being mostly white instead of multi-color, but these 3 always stuck out to me from my childhood, and I always wanted one of these as an Ultimate Edition figure (even though some were maybe just promo shots?) Also, unsure if the green attire ever had a jacket, but I would hope, as that image always stuck out to me. U8 is not a bad figure by any means. I should of grabbed it, but I don't like to collect multiples of the same guy and figured more attires were surely coming. But the U8 figure is great and it's from one of my fav time periods ever of his. But yeah all those in your post would have been awesome. Really hoped we'd get a non Mania 7 Macho King as well. Those are my fav attires of his

Other than saying Macho is no longer available to them, I’m not sure what people are expecting to be said. Steve isn’t going to break WWE news about contracts. I could see a scenario where the merger is slowing down anything, but could be open once it’s settled.

I would have loved to see the h.o.f macho redone as an ultimate but this time with a sculpted shirt.

Crazy we didn’t get an Ultimate trunks macho. To me that’s the only real glaring omission.

As a Warrior guy, I always wanted a run back of the Ultimate Maniacs as Ultimate Editions giving Savage his jacket. I would definitely like a trunks UE Macho as well. Just so many cool looks Macho had
